Seems they used the LZO library, which is straight-up GPL.
http://www.oberhumer.com/opensource/lzo/
And so, someone has asked them to release the code under the GPL.
http://blog.crysys.hu/2012/06/stuxnet-duqu-flame-open-source-license-questi…
Other code uses various permissive licenses. As works of the US
federal government, the rest is of course public domain.
*splutter* So does the author of LZO want to send the US government a
GPL notification? Perhaps the SFLC can help ...

I just published an analysis on "Secure Boot":
https://fsfe.org/campaigns/generalpurposecomputing/secure-boot-analysis.en.…
FSFE's goal is to ensure that the owners of IT devices are always in
full and sole control of them. This fundamental principle is recently
being challenged.
With a function called "Secure Boot", which will be deployed in
computers starting 2012, manufacturers of IT hardware and software
components are striving to get into a position where they permanently
control the IT devices they produce. Hence such devices will be
"secure" from the manufacturer's perspective, but not necessarily from
the owner's point of view: The owner can be treated as an adversary.
By preventing uses of the device which the manufacturer does not
intend, they can control and limit what a general purpose IT machine
(e.g. a PC, laptop, netbook) may be used for. In case of IT devices
with internet access, they can alter these usage restrictions at any
time without even informing the device owner. As a result, IT
manufacturers at their will can take away common rights owners of
products usually receive.

Hi everyone,
we are currently preparing a major update to PDFReaders.org, adding:
* a more appealing and cleaner "home"-page, with *one
recommendation* for the auto-detected platform
* Free pdf reader recommendations for mobile platforms
* Free pdf browser plugin recommendations
BUT, we need some help with gathering/verifying information, deciding
what to recommend... Please have a look at the current Reader-Overview
[1] and the TODOs there.
Tell us...
* if you know any other Free pdf readers that we haven't listed, yet
(for any platform, but especially OSX and iOS)
* which Android reader you would recommend
* any other ideas you might have!
You can reach us via mail[2] or comment directly in the blog [3].
If you have an account at the fellowship-wiki[4] you can commit changes
to the overview directly.
Thanks for your help!

Dear all,

Hi all,
This month, for our monthly fellowship interview, we talked with Giacomo
Poderi. He has worked as a translator and editor for FSFE, as well as
completing a master’s degree in Philosophy. Currently he’s working on a
Ph.D in sociology, which looks at the user experience in Free Software
Projects, focusing on the turn-based strategy game ‘The Battle for Wesnoth’.
Please read this interview on

Thank you,
Alessandro

The current long list of readers is very confusing.
(I also think that the name pdfreaders.org is bit misleading since it
does not list the most popular pdf reader in the world but I guess
renaming it to free-pdfreaders.org is already too late...)
From: Fioddor
I don't like the idea of a single-product recomendation. FSFE should remain
AND LOOK LIKE neutral.
Neither a transparent auto-detection: people doing a selection for friends,
users surfing the web from their workplace, fast consultation on the go
(mobile set) looking for sw for the home system, ...).
I'd improve the long list turning it into a table with some criteria.
Filtering (e.g javascript) would also be welcome.

Hello List,
sorry for the delay in working on the leaflet about software patents. We
had a really high workload the last 4 weeks, combined with a high rate
of illness among the members of our team. Therefore, I was not able to
work on this issue.
So, let's start again:
Our leaflet about software patents that we use at the booth, is really
outdated and should be updated. Please help me to update our leaflet. I
opened an Etherpad where I inserted the text of the actual leaflet and
some additional text from my side:
http://policy.etherpad.fsfe.org/7
PW: SWPAT2012
I think, the length that the text on the etherpad has now is
approximately the text length we can use on the leaflet. So, when you
add some text then try to delete some text elsewhere, if possible : )
Thank you very much for you participation and ideas,
best regards,
Erik

Innovation is the point of software freedom: Without innovation, there
would come time when there would be no need for new software, no need
for software developers to be able to alter the code.
