Hello everyone,
I have a number of computer books to donate. Originally I wanted to
send them to kosovo, but that would also cost for transport, So i
thought I could donate them to the fsfe maybe in germany.
is there any procedure or interest in this?

Short note, I have generated short links to our donation page

Just use, study, share but don't try to improve them ;)

The last days, we again contacted several organisations about being
listed as partners of Document Freedom Day. You will find the current
list on http://documentfreedom.org/partners.en.html. Our donors are
listed on http://documentfreedom.org/sponsors.en.html and our
testimonials page is also getting better and better
http://documentfreedom.org/testimonials.en.html.)
If we forgot to add your organisation, please let us know and we will
add you asap.
We also encourage you to contact other organisations you are in contact
with, to support DFD by being listed as partners. Of course we are also
happy about organisations outside the Free Software field. (We will not
list companies.)
Best Regards,
Matthias

“Free Software and Free Culture changed the way I see human interaction in a society. Copyleft gives a great base for real collaboration and it makes me independent of the goodwill of a company. Since it became part of my life, I wanted to help make it better. And for that we need people working full-time. That’s why I became a fellow: My money goes to the FSFE. Also the crypto card is simply cool.”
“The FSFE gets part of the money I save by keeping my freedom. Sounds paradoxical? Well, that’s what it is: You get freedom by saving money. Because buying unfree works is like paying for your own shackles.”

Hello,
I proposed organizing a student essay competition on Free Software and
Open Standards topics.
The original letter to the DFD mailing list:
> I would like to propose organizing an essay competition for European
> high school students on Free Software and Open Standards issues. This
> would have several benefits: it would encourage people to think about
> Free Software and Open Standards; it would expose more young people to

Following deliberation on the df-coordination@, we have come to the
agreement that it would be better to organize a blog post competition
and we should stick to a small number of countries (like 3) this year
due tto time constraints. Thus, as I would be able to coordinate and
publicize this in Estonia, I am looking for volunteers who would be
willing to run it in two additional countries.
Furthermore, prize ideas would be welcome.

Also, any offers to participate in a jury to grade the entries would
also be appreciated.

I like the quote. But it would be good to have a good picture with a
decent camera.

Hey everybody,
we are currently organising the next Document Freedom Day on March 28th
and therefore we wanted to produce a card game, called "Standards
Quartet" (a card game that is often played by little children usually
not comparing different facts about Open Standards but about cars,
dinosaurs, etc.). For this we need your help to collect all the
information that we need, maybe you could help us out:
Please have a look at this link: https://dfd.etherpad.fsfe.org/10 and
fill in as many facts as you know.
Basically we need:
32 cards, 4 groups (each consisting of 8 different cards) and categories
to compare those cards:
Examples for the groups:
- Text
- Video/Audio
- Picture
- Network
Examples for the categories:
- Amount of words of the current standards
- Amount of implementations
- Exists since year XY
- Freedom level? (Give points from our Open Standard Definition)
- Uses XY other open standards
- Amount of money to lobby the standards
If you have any other ideas for groups or categories, please add them to
the list. (You can also include proprietary standards, depending on how
many Open Standards we find we will decide how exactely to structure
it.)
We will than design the cards, and print them.
Thanks for your help!

Quoting http://www.lemote.com/en/products/Notebook/2010/0310/112.html:
| 1) The world's first fully free software. All system source
| files(BIOS, kernel, drivers etc.) are free software, no close
| firmware needed.
Given that the BIOS is the only firmware that is explicitly
mentioned to be free software, I assume "no close firmware needed"
actually means "no non-free firmware except the pre-installed one".
If that's the case, the system might satisfy the "no non-free drivers"
requirement, but it wouldn't really be "running 100% Free Software".
Of course the other firmware could be covered by the "etc.",
but considering the specifications listed on the same URL
that seems rather unlikely to me.

Dear Fellows subscribed to this list,
As you ought to know, FSFE has recently added donor quotes to its
front page. (If you have not seen those quotes yet, take a look at
<https://fsfe.org/index.html>.) These quotes are good reasons to
support the Foundation. However, they are geared a bit towards
entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs usually have money; however, they do not
have time. Thus, the quotes contain good reasons for entrepreneurs to
support Free Software financially. Nevertheless, it would be useful to
let people who have more time or who do not have entrepreneurial
tendencies know why they should support Free Software and the
Foundation.
Thus, we are, as of now, collecting quotes from our Fellows on what it
means to be a Fellow, why they became Fellows, what part has the
Fellowship played in their life, et cetera. The quotes should not be
too long and they should be accompanied by the Fellow's picture. I
cannot guarantee we will use all the quotes, but I am sure we will use
some. Thus, by sending in a quote and a picture you obviously consent
to whatever use the FSFE is going to put those quotes to. :-)
As the quotes (or some of them) are going to be published anyway, you
ought to send in your quotes and pictures as replies to this very
e-mail. When we will have gathered enough and we will have decided
where exactly to display them, we will make some kind of a selection
and everyone will have an opportunity to see the finest experiences,
reasons, et cetera.
To begin with, here is my very own quote: "I honestly do not know why
I joined the Fellowship. However, the @fsfe.org e-mail alias is simply
great and you won't find a finer company to hack with on the Earth;
thus, I recommend joining us anyway, regardless of whether you are
into translating, coding, design, law or anything else even remotely
connected with Free Software." Now, I won't attach a picture, as mine
can be easily found on the Fellowship Interviews blog; however, you
should attach a one.
Furthermore, as it would get boring if everyone simply repeated what a
great Fellowship we have, you should try to put in a bit more of your
personality. It would be great if the quotes gave an overview of what
we Fellows (and other volunteers) do, why we do the things we do, and
who we are.
As you probably get what we want, just send in your quotes. And do not
worry if you do not know what we are looking for: It would be more
beneficial to send in your quote anyway.
Faithfully,
