Es gibt gute und nachvollziehbare Gründe dafür, dass ein Serverraum möglichst menschenleer sein sollte.
Auch dass die Cloud grundsätzlich aus den Computern anderer Leute besteht, sollte sich in unseren Kreisen mittlerweile herumgesprochen haben, ebenso wie der wirtschaftliche und machtpolitische Wert und die entsprechende Ausbeutung von gesammelten "Datenspuren".
Dass die Strukturen und Einrichtungen des Internets nur schwer einer nationalen Rechtsordnung und -auffassung unterworfen werden können, halte ich nicht nur für einen Nachteil. Im Gegenteil erscheinen mir entsprechende Bestrebungen der Wiedergewinnung nationaler Souveränität - auch von deutscher Seite - eher reaktionär.
Ob man eine Diskussion darüber führen sollte, welche Daten es "wert" sind, den (Energie- und Ressourcen-)Aufwand ihrer Haltung zu "rechtfertigen", erscheint mit zweifelhaft.
Also: Nichts Neues, aber eine schöne und kurze Zusammenfassung, an die man notwendige Diskussionen anknüpfen kann.

Um ehrlich zu sein, verstehe ich den Text teilweise nicht. Klar, das übertragen der Daten kostet Energie, die sonst nicht benötigt wurde. Mal überspitzt formuliert: Alle Daten in einem großem Rechenzentrum vorrätig zu halten sollte doch Energieeffizienter sein, als wenn jeder seine eigenen Daten hostet.
(Mal nur aus der Energiebilanz Sicht betrachtet, gegen Cloud (bzw. Cloud ohne vorherige Verschlüsselung) sprechen andere Punkte...)

Du vergisst den Rebound-Effekt (grob: Effizienz führt zur Verschwendung) aber auch den "vermeintlich gratis"-Effekt. Wenn du deine Daten lokal speicherst merkst du schnell nach dem dritten Tausch der Festplatte oder den immer länger dauernden Backups die Kosten der Datenexplosion. In einer günstigen oder gar gratis-Cloud in einem schnellen "flat-rate" Netz merkst du die versteckten Kosten weniger, höchstens ein bisschen Upload-Zeit. Deswegen hat es so viel Mist in den Clouds. Richtige Wolken würden ihn ausregnen!
Das sehen wir auch auf dieser Liste, wo viele Teilnehmer sich weigern, redundante Zitate zu entfernen. Die "Cloud" verkraftet es ja.

Der Rebound-Effekt ist auch für mich ein wichtiger Aspekt. Bedeutend ist für mich aber auch, daß Privat-Leute vermutlich wesentlich weniger Daten speichern werden, weil sie nicht das Interesse an der Bildung von Profilen für personalisierte Werbung und Überwachung haben. Bei Facebook und Co. werden die riesigen Datenmengen doch in erster Linie für diesen Zweck gespeichert.

Das ist schön für Dich. Kannst Du Quellen nennen? Mir war das nicht so konkret bekannt, das Beispiel Apple war für mich sehr erhellend.

Ob man eine Diskussion darüber führen sollte, welche Daten es "wert" sind, den (Energie- und Ressourcen-)Aufwand ihrer Haltung zu "rechtfertigen", erscheint mit zweifelhaft.
Auch da bin ich anderer Meinung. Wenn Ressourcen eingesetzt werden , die Schaden anrichten und endlich sind, sollte man schon diskutieren, ob der Einsatz zu verantworten ist. So wäre ja auch nicht der hohe Schadstoff-Ausstoß der PKW zu beanstanden und der Abgasbetrug überflüssig. Zudem werden bei den Rechenzentren von Google und Co, die Ressourcen eingesetzt um Werbung und Überwachung zu ermöglichen. Dafür will ich den mir zustehenden Anteil der Ressourcen nicht verwendet wissen. Den angerichteten Schaden habe zudem auch ich auszubaden.

Danke für den Hinweis. Da sich die Bezeichnung (mehrfach?) geändert hat, bin ich verunsichert. Ich werde in Zukunft die korrekte Bezeichnung EU verwenden, die auch gemeint ist.

Nur zur Klarstellung: IMO soll die Welt weder am deutschen noch am EU-Wesen genesen.
Dass etwas nationaler Souveränität oder dem Zugriff der EU entzogen ist, kann eben auch einen Freiheitsgewinn bedeuten, wenn man nicht nur Abhängigkeiten (Staat gegen (Monopol-)Unternehmen) eintauscht.

Habe ich was von Zuteilen geschrieben? Abstrakt hat jeder Mensch ein Anrecht auf den gleichen Ressourcen-Verbrauch und den damit verbundenen möglichen Schaden. Oder gibt es für Dich Menschen mit unterschiedlichen Rechten? Wie hoch der ist, ist im Einzelfall schwer zu klären. Klar ist aber, daß gegenwärtig ein Teil der Menschen auf Kosten des Restes lebt.

Als proprietär oder unfrei? Selbstverständlich kann jeder die Lizenzbedingungen wählen, die er will. Über damit verbundene Auseinandersetzung über Vor- und Nachteile wird man sich aber wohl noch auseinandersetzen dürfen? Oder willst Du hier im Unterschied zu mir etwas verbieten?
