ECIS stepping up its activities at IGF

Hi all, for your information: I've had several interactions with our friends from ECIS (Douglas Gregory, Charlotte Thornby) about getting Thomas Vinje to Rio for the IGF and have him explain the CFI ruling, why it is good, and how the internet is in danger from standards abuse (essentially the new complaint). ECIS is also working on a brochure on the issue. So if the Certified Open flyers would pick up from the antitrust case, I think there might be quite a bit of synergy possible. Also offered myself to chaperone Thomas Vinje a bit at the IGF, and will suggest his name for speaking opportunities. Regards, Georg -- Georg C. F. Possibility to present CO at IGF

FYI: Update from <http://www.intgovforum.org/> Meeting Point/Village Square: Participants wishing to reserve a space for their institution should contact the IGF Secretariat. Small stalls will be made available for interested institutions. Depending on the demand, interested institutions will be asked to either share stalls or take turns. Hi all, I just put the following article online and made sure to email it to some of the "usual suspects" from IBM, Sun, and Google in particular. Also put it forward on the IGF DCOS list and A2K. Shane and myself discussed this and took this somewhat inofficial and unobtrusive approach so people could give feedback without having to go into official statement mode -- also we think it is better for this not to be identified with a certain person or group, in particular to increase acceptance. The programme OSOSS informs and advises the Dutch public sector about the possibilities of open source software and stimulates the use of open source software in their information systems (http://www.ososs.nl/about_ososs). The report also refers to the manual we are currently working on (see quote below). "Procurement: levelling the playing field An important step in getting public administrations to use FLOSS is to help them to adapt their procurement processes, so that companies offering FLOSS compete on a level playing field with proprietary vendors. According to Broukema, the problem is that administrations are often locked into proprietary standards, preventing them from moving to FLOSS solutions. Another big issues is that public sector bodies who are looking for offers need to learn how to structure their calls for tender in order to give equal opportunities to FLOSS. Later this year, OSOSS will publish a manual for public sector procurement. This will not be aimed at lawyers, but at buyers in the public sector, providing a practical guideline. Together with a number of municipalities, OSOSS in January 2007 published an "Open Government Manifesto" (pdf), demanding from their suppliers vendor independence, transparency, interoperability and digital durability. Hi all Noticed a few issues with the current website. Bottom right of the page says: '© 2007 Certified Open® - Powered by Open Source Software' Also, we used to link to some parts of the framework. Was this purposefully removed?
