1. IPRED2 - La nueva amenaza para la libertad
La Comisión Europea publicó recientemente el boceto de una segunda directiva para reforzar, legalmente, los «derechos de propiedad intelectual». El texto propone criminalizar la mayoría de infracciones de patentes, derechos de autor y marcas registradas, así como la ayuda o incitación a cometer infracciones. Con la amenaza de largas condenas de prisión, fuertes multas y otras duras sanciones, esta directiva pretende crear el suficiente miedo entre ciudadanos y empresas para evitar que participen en la producción y distribución de software, y de forma extensiva, en el uso de software y en la publicación de documentación. También convertirá las patentes, marcas registradas y derechos de autor, para aquellas compañías que dispongan de un abundante presupuesto, en una asequible arma contra la competencia.
Ciaran O'Rioran ha creado una página web donde comenta cómo se puede abusar de esta directiva para dañar al Software Libre y qué se puede hacer contra ella.

2. Stichting NLnet dona 150.000 EUR para apoyar la GPLv3
Stichting NLnet, una organización holandesa sin ánimo de lucro, anunció la donación de 150.000 euros para apoyar las actividades de desarrollo de la GPLv3 que realizan la Free Software Foundation y la Free Software Foundation Europa. Con esta importante contribución, NLnet espera animar a otras organizaciones a ayudar económicamente a este proyecto único.
3. Alessandro Rubini en Eslovenia
Alessandro Rubini participó en una conferencia de Software Libre en Portoroz, Eslovenia. Dio una charla acerca del uso del Software Libre en los negocios, y participó en una mesa redonda para comentar cómo debería la administración pública ayudar a crecer a las compañías de Software Libre. Además de estos actos oficiales, también aprovechó la oportunidad para contactar con partidarios del Sotware Libre, tanto en Eslovenia como en Croacia.
4. Stefano Maffulli en la Conferencia OpenOffice.org en Eslovenia
En la Conferencia OpenOffice.org, que se celebró en Koper y Capodistria (Eslovenia), Stefano Maffulli participó en la mesa redonda que cerró la OOoConf2005. El debate se extendió desde la decisión del estado de Massachusetts (EE.UU.) de usar el formato «OpenDocument» a las próximas versiones de OpenOffice.org. La conferencia estuvo muy bien dirigida y la hospitalidad del LUG Trieste y del LUGOS, de Eslovenia, fue estupenda.
