1. Dos afortunados Fellows ganan un portátil
La Fellowship es muy importante para mantener las actividades de la Free Software Foundation Europa. Por este motivo, la FSFE busca formas de agradecer su participación a todos aquellos que se han unido. Este año, nos donaron dos portátiles HP Compaq para distribuirlos aleatoriamente entre nuestros Fellows. Los ganadores del sorteo fueron Andrea Di Dato, de Italia, y Wouter van Heyst, de Holanda. Felicidades de nuevo y ¡disfrutad los nuevos ordenadores!

2. Giacomo Poderi, el nuevo becario de la FSFE
La Free Software Foundation Europa da la bienvenida a Giacomo Poderi, su nuevo becario. Giacomo vive en Zürich y trabajará para la FSFE desde abril hasta agosto de 2006. Su principal tarea será ayudar en aspectos administrativos al presidente, la oficina y a todo el equipo de la FSFE. Estudió filosofía en Bolonia, Italia, y escogió trabajar para la FSFE porque le permite involucrarse profundamente en procesos sociales y técnicos de la vida diaria.
La FSFE agradece a Alexander Finkenberger el valioso trabajo que realizó durante el tiempo que fue becario, que terminó el pasado marzo. Alexander decidió continuar trabajando para la FSFE como voluntario y sigue participando activamente en el equipo de la FSFE.
3. El equipo de la FSFE sigue creciendo
Antonella Beccaria, Cristian Rigamonti y Patrick Ohnewein se unieron al equipo de la FSFE. Todos ellos son partidarios del Software Libre desde hace muchos años. Y conjuntamente con Stefano Maffulli, su colaboración convierte Italia en una fuerte base para la Free Software Foundation Europa.
4. Charla de Ciarán O'Riordan y Gareth Bowker en Londres
El 7 de abril, la British Computer Society fue la sede de un evento de Software Libre donde Ciarán O'Riordan presentó la GPLv3 y el trabajo de la FSFE en contra de las patentes de software. Gareth Bowker dio una presentación sobre la ley del copyright y cómo el DRM puede restringir a los usuarios de ordenadores. Ambos respondieron las preguntas que surgieron y la discusión con los asistentes se prolongó durante mucho después del final de las charlas.
5. Foro Internacional sobre Software Libre en Brasil
Georg Greve y Ciarán O'Riordan participaron en la séptima edición del Fórum Internacional Software Livre (FISL) en Porto Alegre, Brasil. Georg Greve dio una de las charlas de apertura («¿Software Libre, un movimiento social o una revolución tecnológica?») y participó en las sesiones sobre la Free Software Foundation América Latina, las distribuciones con el 100% de software libre y en la discusión sobre compatibilidad de licencias en la segunda conferencia internacional sobre la GPLv3. Ciarán O'Riordan habló sobre el trabajo en contra de las patentes de software y participó de diversas formas en la conferencia sobre la GPLv3. Aparte de estas actividades púbicas, ambos también trabajaron con la organización hermana de la FSFE, la FSF América Latina, y con la comunidad local de Software Libre para fortalecer la red internacional para el Software Libre.
6. Conferencia Access to Knowledge en EE.UU.
El Information Society Project de la facultad de derecho de la universidad de Yale fue el lugar donde se celebró, entre el 21 y 23 de abril, una conferencia sobre el acceso al conocimiento (A2K, por sus siglas en inglés). Karsten Gerloff moderó un debate sobre «métodos para licenciar el acceso al conocimiento». Los ponentes hablaron sobre las posibilidades y limitaciones de las licencias para reglamentar el conocimiento; el debate se centró en los limites del concepto de Creative Commons.
La conferencia fue una gran oportunidad para contactar con otros activistas y académicos en el campo del acceso al conocimiento. Los organizadores documentaron la mayor parte de la conferencia en un wiki público.

7. Audiencia del caso antimonopolio contra Microsoft
Después de muchos años de investigación, de batallas legales y, literalmente, de billones de euros gastados por Microsoft para mantener su monopolio; 13 jueces de la Gran Cámara del Tribunal Europeo en Luxemburgo se reunieron para una audiencia de una semana. El objetivo de esta audiencia era decidir si tenían fundamento las acusaciones de Microsoft sobre un trato injusto y errores de juicio por parte de la Comisión Europea; y si sus decisiones deberían ser anuladas o modificadas.
En estrecha cooperación con el equipo de Samba, la Free Software Foundation Europa tuvo un equipo de cinco personas en Luxemburgo para defender la decisión de la Comisión: Acompañado por el presidente de la FSFE, Georg Greve, el abogado de la FSFE en el caso, Carlo Piana, el coordinador de prensa de la FSFE, Joackim Jackobs y Antonella Beccaria; Andrew Tridgell, el fundador del equipo de Samba, habló en el tribunal de parte de la FSFE. Sus claras y profundas explicaciones ayudaron enormemente a invalidar muchas de las falsas afirmaciones hechas por Microsoft. Se espera que el Tribunal se pronuncie este año, y agradeció el trabajo hecho por la FSFE y Samba; un poco de optimismo está justificado.
