Welche Hardware, alltagstauglich und kompatibel zu #SoftwareFreedom, ermöglicht Organisationen einen selbstbestimmten Betriebsalltag?
Über die FSF Webseite war ich bereits auf eine Liste mit Geräten gestoßen, welche #SoftwareFreedom kompatibel sind. Das ist eine gute Quelle, auch wenn ich sie jetzt nicht auswendig weiß. Neben der Kompatibilität ist mir aber mindestens die Tauglichkeit im Alltag ähnlich wichtig. Was nützt mir ein Gerät, welches #SoftwareFreedom berücksichtigt aber im Alltag unpraktisch ist?
Hintergrund: Ich bin ehrenamtlich in mehreren Vereinen aktiv (Greenpeace Deutschland e.V., Foodsharing e.V., Bürgergemeinschaft Lamme e.V.). Außerdem gründe ich ein Unternehmen, welches freie Software für Mobilitätsdienstleister anbietet: www.swingbe.de.
Unabhängig für welche dieser Organisationen ich aktiv bin, ich habe (ein großes Dankeschön der #SoftwareFreedom Community an dieser Stelle) ein gutes Verständnis und fühle mich Wohl bei der Auswahl von Software für den Betriebsalltag.
Bei Hardware ist das anders. Da bin ich mir unsicher. Beispiel: Ich kaufe mir ein Multifunktionsgerät, das am Ende statt Kopieren und Scannen nur Druckt. Oder: Ich kaufe einen Laptop und kann weder die eingebaute Kamera noch das Mikrofon benutzen.
Daher meine Frage:
Welche Hardware, alltagstauglich und kompatibel zu #SoftwareFreedom, ermöglicht Organisationen einen selbstbestimmten Betriebsalltag?
Folgende Geräte muss ich zeitnah beschaffen: Laptop, Docking Station, Monitor, Multifunktionsdrucker, GPS Sport Watch.
Habt ihr Erfahrung mit konkreten Produkten oder Shops? Kennt Ihr Webseiten, welche mich bei der Recherche unterstützen?

Laptop: 1000e Hacker können nicht irren, deshalb Thinkpad. Die gibt es günstig gebraucht. Vielleicht habt ihr jemanden vor Ort, der mit Leasingrückläufern handelt. Auch andere Businessgeräte (Dell, HP) gehen meist problemlos, von Consumerkram (auch derselben Hersteller) würde ich die Finger lassen. Die Umwelt dankt, wenn Du gebraucht kaufst!
Wenn es unbedingt neue Laptops sein müssen: https://www.tuxedocomputers.com/ - nur jetzt grad nicht, denn die haben vergessen, ihr Zertifikat zu verlängern - autsch.
Monitor: Da muss nur die Anschlussbuchse stimmen.
MuFus: Tu Dir USB nicht an, das kann zwar funktionieren, aber auch gern mal nicht. Linux möchte Netzwerkdrucker/scanner. Und für Bürozwecke braucht der MuFu-Scanner einen automatischen Einzug. Ich schwöre auf Brother MFC irgendwas-N, die laufen bei mir schon ewig ohne Probleme und die Kartuschen sind günstig, aber ich glaube die Treiber sind nicht frei.
GPS Sport Watch: Das dürfte ein Problem werden, das ist alles proprietäres Cloud-Zeug mit Datenabgriff. Aber vielleicht weiß jemand anderes was.

ich würde das nehmen, was funktioniert und mit den GNU/Linux, das du einsetzen willst, kompatible und alltagstauglich ist. Wenn z.B. das WLAN-Modul ein unfreier Blop ist, wird es vermutlich schwer sein zu erklären, warum man noch zusätzlich WLAN-Sticks anschaffen möchte, auch wenn es für Linux unfreie Treiber für das verbaute Modul gibt. IdR werden Business Geräte sehr gut unterstützt, also Dell, Thinkpads, Fujitsu etc. Dell bietet ja z.B. Laptops und Rechner mit Ubuntu an, so weit ich weiß, oder halt Tuxedo oder am allerbesten natürlich gebrauchte, da habe ich persönlich ganz gute Erfahrung mit AfB gemacht.
Bei Drucker habe ich auch gute Erfahrung mit Brother gemacht, für die es extra Linux-Treiber gibt, und, wie Ilu schreibt, sollte das ganze am besten über einen Druckserver laufen, Da ginge ja zu Not sogar ein Raspi.
Docking Station und Display sind meiner Erfahrung nach auch eher unkritisch, solange du die richtigen Stecker hast.
Bei Smartwatch würde mein Bauchgefühl zu Garmin tendieren. Müsste ich aber auch mehr recherchieren, ob das stimmt. Ansonsten kenne ich eine Open Source Smartwatch.

Hallo Stefan,
wir haben hier in Hannover einen AfB Shop, in dem nette und hilfsbereite Menschen arbeiten und wenn ich für mich, Freunde oder Bekannte Hardware dort oder im Online-Shop besorge, dann ist sie wie beschrieben, bzw. sehe ich die beschrieben Gebrauchsspuren oft gar nicht und die Geräte sind bislang immer Tip Top in Ordnung. Von daher weiß ich nicht, wie sie mit Reklamationen umgehen, das konnte ich noch nicht testen. Das sind aber alles persönliche Erfahrungen von mir, ansonsten stehe ich in keinem Kontakt zu der Firma, finde aber gut, dass es eine gGmbH ist.
Und ich kenne Admins in Firmen hier in Hannover, die ihre "alte" Hardware dort "entsorgen" und die hatten in der Vergangenheit auch top Geräte, die man dann günstig bei AfB kaufen konnte. Ich hoffe ja ein bisschen, dass die anstehenden Windows 11 Rollouts in den Firmen uns noch eine Menge sehr guter Business-Geräte auf den Gebrauchtmarkt spülen werden, weil der Prozessor von Win11 nicht mehr unterstützt wird, um sie dann mit einem GNU/Linux zu installieren. :o)

Gebrauchte Geschäftslaptops bestelle ich auch immer gerne für den Bekanntenkreis bei belco24 in Hannover.

Brother bietet für seine Geräte Debian-Pakete an. Ich habe auch noch nicht versucht, an den Quellcode zu kommen.
Bei bestimmten USB-Geräteklassen gibt es Standards, die von Linux problemlos unterstützt werden: Mäuse, Tastaturen, Festplatten und Speicherstifte, MIDI-Adapter, Soundkarten. Problematisch sind Drucker, Scanner, WLAN-Karten und früher mal Modems. Obwohl ich letztens auch da Erfolge mit diesem AirPrint hatte: https://wiki.debian.org/CUPSAirPrint .
Hi Ilu, Ich habe seit fast 10 Jahren ein ThinkPad X200. Mit SSD Festplatte und neuen und mehr Arbeitsspeicher läuft Debian immer noch super.
Allerdings ist mir auch die Reparierbarkeit wichtig. Auf der folgenden Liste macht HP einen guten Eindruck.

Daher schwanke ich zur Zeit etwas. Kennt jemand einen guten Kompromiss zwischen Reparierbarkeit und Softwarefreedom per Laptops?

Die Banglejs2 eignet sich als "smarte" Sportuhr für einfach Ansprüche. (Display, Apps, Messungen und Auswertung haben nicht die Qualität von Premium-Smart-Sport Watches, aber grundsätzlich hat sie GNSS und Pulsmessung. Dafür ist die Entwicklungsgemeinschaft nett und hilfreich.)
