Und wenn mich ein vollbärtiger, ungepflegt aussehender Mann darauf hinweisen würde, dass meine Spülmaschine mir meine Freiheit nimmt, würde ich ihn auch als Spinner abtun, das ist durchaus verständlich. Jegliche Publicity erwischt die Falschen, nämlich jene, die so oder so schon entweder Anhänger sind, oder auf gutem Weg dazu.

Das sehe ich entschieden anders! Du brauchst ja erstmal Publicity um überhaupt Aufmerksamkeit zu bekommen. Wenn es wirklich so wäre, wie du schreibst, dann könnten wir tatsächlich unsere Arbeit einstellen.

Ich stimme Michael hier zu. In den letzten Jahren habe ich immer mehr Leute gesehen, die Freie Software besser verstehen. Bei Politikern wird Dir das auch recht stark auffallen: Schau Dir mal heute die Antworten an http://fsfe.org/campaigns/askyourcandidates/. Vor 10 Jahren sah es da sehr sehr viel schlechter aus.
Es ist oft langsam, aber es geht vorran. Gesellschaftlicher Wandel benötigt eben seine Zeit. Wie lange haben Menschen für die Pressefreiheit gekämpft? Da haben wir noch ein bißchen Zeit, den Menschen Software Freiheit zu erklären.

Richtig: Wenn Du bislang nur und ausschließlich Windows kennst, ist Linux zunächst ein Ersatz und erst später eine Bereicherung. Da ist doch nichts Schlimmes dran, außer, dass Du leider zuerst mit Windows in Berührung gekommen wärest.

Auch das ist vollkommen ok - Pepsi, Coca-Cola oder Nestlé zu konsumieren ist ja auch kein Straftatbestand an sich, aber trotzdem nicht gut. Solange Dich aber niemand darauf hinweist, dass eben solche sogenannten Lebensmittelkonzerne übel sind, kommst Du auch als normaler Erdenbürger erst mal nicht auf die Idee, dass da was faul sein könnte. Und wir machen das halt in Bezug auf Software, Hardware, etc.

Die "Falschen" werden auch gerne Multiplikatoren genannt: Installier' mal in Deiner Verwandschaft ein Linux, wo ein "PC", gemeint Windows gemeint ist, und köder' sie meinetwegen alleing mit dem Kostenargument. Ich mache das, und siehe da: Es funktioniert!
Am Ende ist wichtig: n + 1 > n | q. e. d.

So mach ich es auch, allerdings muss man meiner Meinung nach dafür schon sehr hartgesotten sein. Denn DIR wird lange nachgesagt, dass du das aber installiert ist, wenn es Probleme gibt. DU bist dann eine der wenigen Ansprechpersonen wenn es Probleme gibt.
Das möchte eben nicht jeder so haben.
Meiner Meinung Meinung nach müsste da der Staat viel regulierender eingreifen gegen das Monopol.
Sowas wie: 1. Auf jedem Komplett PC muss stehen wie viel teurer die Windows-Lizenz den Rechner gemacht hat. 2. Recht des Verbrauchers das Geld für die Windows-Lizenz EINFACH zurückzufordern, wenn man sie nicht haben will. 3. Aufhören der Bildungseinrichtungen des Staats sich von Microsoft bestechen zu lassen und auch mal weiter denken als bis zum nächsten Laternenpfahl. Es fängt schon damit an, dass es mit OpenOffice eben Interface Probleme für den normalen User gibt, weil er sich alle Sachen, die ihm in der Schule erklärt wurden und OpenOffice wieder neu zusammensuchen muss und geht dann über die 1-5. Klasse wo Defakto kein Linux verwendet wurde (und wird? Bin da nicht so bewandert...) Bei den Berufsschulen ist das nicht anders... Auf den Rechnern und sowieso die Programme... Es wird mit Programmen gearbeitet die mit Wine emuliert werden müssen (HeidiSQL)...
4. Im öffentlichen Dienst dafür sorgen, dass mit OpenSource anders umgegangen wird. Das es gefördert wird.
=> Windows ist schlicht und einfach in einer Monopolstellung und zwar so schlimm, dass ein PC automatisch Windows ist.
Ich werde nun am Wochenende bei einem Laptop Windows reparieren. Sollte eine Neuinstallation in Frage kommen werde ich Ubuntu nur als Notfallbetriebsssystem installieren. Ganz einfach weil diejenigen die zu mir kommen einen Fahrtweg von 30 Minuten haben und nur kommen, wenn sie Probleme haben, den Rechner abgegeben und wieder wegfahren. Solchen Leuten kann ich schlicht und einfach guten Gewissens kein Ubuntu schmackhaft machen, weil der User darauf vorbereitet werden muss. Man kann sie nicht in die Windows Welt entlassen, weil in kürzester Zeit automatisch auf Probleme gestoßen wird. Da sind eben die Startschwierigkeiten. Aber 30km bzw. nach dem Wochenende 190km ist eben dafür doof und dafür ist Linux zu wenig verbreitet... Klar werde ich in der Abschlussemail nochmal auf die Vorteile von Linux hinweisen und den Hinweis das ich da was für den Notfall vorbereitet habe, aber ich glaube das das innerhalb kürzester Zeit vergessen ist...

Genau das stelle ich auch fest. Und während ich früher noch einigermassen klar kam, werden die Linux-Distros immer unübersichtlicher (v.a. die neuen Desktop Umgebungen), und mit einiger Hardware inkompatibler. Es gelingt mir meistens, eine 95% gute Installation zu machen, bei der aber dann etwas fehlt, was die Nutzniesserin unbedingt benötigt. Also doch zum Profi, und solche gibt es hier recht wenige und sie sind entsprechend überlastet.

Genau das finde ich auch. Den Firmen wie Microsoft und Apple kann man keinen Vorwurf machen, wenn sie die Spielregeln des Kapitalismus ausnützen. Hingegen Regierungen, Verwaltungen und Parlamenten, wenn sie uns BürgerInnen nicht von den Auswüchsen schützen - oder noch schlimmer sogar mitmachen.

Genau. Ich bringe es nicht fertig, in meiner Gemeinde, in meinem Kanton oder meiner Universität mehr als kosmetische Verbesserungen zu erreichen. Wobei es auch an mir liegt, ich gehe nicht besonders geschickt vor.

Das ist mein aktuelles Problem bei der Uni Bern. Die Verwaltung will die Arbeitszeiterfassungstabelle nicht im ODS-Format zur Verfügung stellen, dafür aber neben XLS neuerdings in XLSX, was deutlich schlechter ist (Libre Office braucht z.B. 5 Minuten um das XLSX zu öffnen, gegenüber 1 Minute bei XLS).

Das ist ein weiteres Problem. Ich habe einen Linux-Interessenten "verloren" weil ich es nicht schaffte, eine genügend windows-ähnliche Umgebung einzurichten, wie das mit KDE 3.5 noch einfach möglich war. Wobei das nicht der einzige Grund war; er kam auch mit Open Office nicht ganz zurecht. Hat z.B. nicht begriffen, dass wenn er eine Impress-Präsentation exportiert und die Bilder weder einbettet noch mitgibt, diese nicht angezeigt werden können. Aber eben, "schuld" ist für ihn GNU/Linux, obwohl ich ihm zeigte, dass er es mit einem PDF-Export leichter als mit MS-Office hätte lösen können. Das Grundproblem ist also, dass selbst sehr intelligente Leute sich weigern, die grundlegensten Informatikkenntnisse anzueignen, die sie nicht einfach intuitiv zusammenklicken können.

Der Staat hat mit dem Urheberrecht überhaupt erst ein Monopol geschaffen. Die einzig notwendige Regulierung wäre vielleicht die Weitergabe des Quellcodes, die man Analog zum Anspruch auf eine Betriebsanleitung festschreiben könnte. Und selbst wenn nicht, ließe sich der Binärcode Schritt für Schritt ersetzen und rück-entwickeln, ähnlich wie GNU immer größere Teile von Unix ersetzt hat. (Und der Binärcode von Unix war dabei nicht mal frei kopierbar!)
Software ist Kapital, so wie eine Schaufel oder ein Bagger Kapital ist und uns das Leben erleichtert. In der freien Software auf meinem Rechner stecken viele tausend Personenjahre Arbeit, wahrscheinlich mehr als in den größten Kreuzfahrschiffen. Trotzdem kann ich mit dieser ungeheuren Menge Kapital schalten und walten, wie ich will. Vom Staat erwarte ich nur, dass er mir dabei nicht in die Quere kommt (z. B. mit Softwarepatenten).
