Hallo zusammen,
ich glaube ich habe diese Mail vorhin geistig umnachtet an die falsche Liste geschickt (fsfe-de@gnu.org). Jetzt also an die hoffentlich richtige Liste und falls jetzt deswegen jemand die Mail doppelt bekommt, tut mir das leid.
Vor ein paar Tagen bin ich darauf gestoßen, dass Amazon im Zuge der Einführung des "Cloud Players" GNU+Linux-Nutzer jetzt aktiv behindert mp3-Downloads zu tätigen. Sobald jemand mit einem User Agent kommt, der signalisiert, dass man kein Windows- oder Mac-Nutzer ist, werden nur noch Einzeldownloads zugelassen. Inzwischen hilft dagegen auch nicht mehr die Umstellung des User Agents, weil Amazon das Betriebssystem per Javascript erkennt. [1]
Technische Gründe gibt es dafür keine, denn wenn man sich die Mühe macht, alle zusätzlich eingebauten Hürden zu umgehen, funktioniert alles einwandfrei. Amazon sperrt auch Freie Software wie Pymazon oder clamz, mit denen man bisher auf den Dienst zugreifen konnte. Für Nutzer von unfreier Software gibt es keine Einschränkungen; sie werden zwar auch zum "Cloud Player" gedrängt, können aber immer noch normale Downloads durchführen.
Im Debianforum habe ich bereits mal angeregt sich bei Amazon zu beschweren oder negative Bewertungen abzugeben, aber ich überlege ob man das nicht breiter aufziehen sollte, eventuell mit einer Aktion, die auch länderübergreifend sein kann, denn Nutzer in Frankreich sind beispielsweise auch betroffen. Eine erste Reaktion auf meinen Vorschlag gab es bereits und ein Nutzer hat eine negative Bewertung abgegeben. [2] Ich finde jedenfalls diesen Schritt gegen Freie Software unglaublich dreist, wenn wir ja oft schon zufrieden sind wenn wir von Unternehmen einfach nur toleriert werden.

Amazon boykottieren ist die einzige Möglichkeit. Nicht mehr dort kaufen, nichts darüber recherchieren, und immer wieder darauf hinweisen, dass es die sog. "Global Player" sind, die ihre Macht missbrauchen.
Coca-Cola, Nestlé, UniLever & McDonalds machen genau dasselbe (Macht missbrauchen) und gehören meines Erachtens nach genauso boykottiert.
Ich tu' das, und lebe gut damit. Noone needs Amazon. Ich kaufe meine Bücher, CDs etc. in einem sehr netten, lokalen Geschäft, trinke keine Zuckerdrinks, konsumiere keine Convenient-Produkte, vermeide Carrageen-Verseuchtes und umgehe jegliches FastFood-Zeugs. Und ich lebe. Wahrscheinlich besser und billiger, als wenn ich das tun würde. Meine Freiheit, die mir gut tut.
Also: Wirf Amazon aus Deinem Leben und befrei' Dich dadurch.

Gibt es irgendwelche Anzeichen die dafür sprechen, dass die Intention wirklich die Behinderung von freier Software ist?
Windows und Mac OS sind nicht die einzigen unfreien Betriebssysteme und möglicherweise hat Amazon einfach kein Interesse daran, die anderen Plattformen zu unterstützen weil sie gemessen am Umsatz zu hohe Support-Kosten verursachen.
Schlampige Entwickler wären eine weitere mögliche Erklärung.

Welche Verschwörungstheorie denn? Es ist zumindest Fakt, dass Amazon gezielt bestimmte Betriebssysteme blockt. Wenn sie einen Hinweis einblenden würden "Ihr Betriebssystem wird nicht unterstützt. Möchten Sie auf eigene Gefahr weitermachen?" oder Nutzer freier Software einfach komplett ignorieren würden, dann wäre ich damit ja zufrieden, aber es wird per JavaScript getestet auf welcher Plattform man sich bewegt und dann wird eine Option, die nach wie vor funktionieren würde, einfach abgeschaltet. Ich sehe da keine Verschwörungstheorie, sondern nur Tatsachen.

Als Ubuntu-User kaufe ich meine Musik meistens bei 7digital, nicht bei Amazon oder Apple. Die Auswahl ist dort leider recht eingeschränkt. Musik die über das Label http://karent.jp/ verlegt wird, kaufe ich daher meist in Form von CDs. CDs kann man laut http://www.stallman.org/internet-music.html auch mit Bargeld bezahlen, im Internet geht dies nicht. Eine Alternative wären FLAC-Downloads, die man mit Bitcoin bezahlen kann, unter einer freien Lizenz.
