Der Witz beim Job als freier Software-Entwickler ist eben nun mal, das man seine Arbeit evtl. auch mehrfach verkaufen kann. Erst dann kommt man auf den berühmten grünen Zweig.
An dieser Stelle könnte (sollte?) eine Diskussion über das Basiskonzept der freien Software beginnen. Soweit ich das verstanden habe, läuft es in der Tendenz auf eine sehr "arbeits-orientierte" Bezahlungsstruktur hinaus, in der die Bezahlungs-Komponente "Rechte" unterdrückt wird:
Die 4 Freiheiten und die GPL erlauben zwar den Verkauf eines Programmes, aber sie stellen es jedem Käufer frei, das Programm anschließend zu verschenken. Daraus folgt für mich, daß es immer nur einen einzigen Verkaufsvorgang geben kann. Und daraus folgere ich, daß dieser eine Verkaufsvorgang "hoch gehängt" werden muß, damit man dem Programmierer gegenüber fair bleibt / damit er ein angemessenes Honorar erhält.
Diese Gedanken sind in dem "Bankkontenmodell" abgebildet. Die Allgemeinheit, vertreten durch die Förderer, kauft dem Programmierer seine Software ab und macht sie zum Allgemeingut. Hier können regelrechte Verhandlungen stattfinden - bisher ist vielleicht eine Gruppe von 10 Förderern bereit, einen Betrag von 200.000 DM für das Programm zu zahlen, der Programmierer ist aber nur bereit, es gegen Zahlung von 300.000 DM frei zu geben.
Zurück zu Deinem Argument:

Dies wäre nicht nötig in dem oben ausgemalten Modell. Der Programmierer muß sich nur um den _einen_ Verkaufsvorgang kümmern und zieht aus diesem den Gewinn, den er sonst aus mehreren Verkäufen bekommt. Mir gefällt dieses Modell, weil der Programmierer sich damit viel mehr um seinen eigentlichen Job kümmern kann und die Multiplikations-Arbeit von anderen geleistet wird (ganz viele andere Freie-Software-Aktive, die das der Allgemeinheit gehörende Programm bei vielen vielen Kunden installieren).
Im Moment ist der Programmierer gezwungen, eine ziemlich aufwendige Multiplikations-Maschinerie aufzubauen und zu betreiben, wenn er "auf einen grünen Zweig" kommen will. Entweder muß er selbst viele Installationen durchführen und betreuen oder er muß Leute einstellen oder Verträge mit Externen machen und kommt eigentlich, egal wie er es macht, mit zunehmendem Erfolg seiner Software immer mehr selbst in eine Verwaltungs- und Organisations-Position.
Das Modell der freien Software wäre anders: Der Programmierer muß sich bei Fertigstellung seines Programmes (und auch bei jedem Update) _ein_einziges_Mal_ um den Verkauf kümmern. Danach übernehmen andere. Eigentlich ist das eine verbesserte Form der Arbeitsteilung.

das ist nun ziemlich genau das gleiche was die gplfarm macht
dabei gibt es mehrere probleme zu beachten:
- software in diesem umfang (z.b. branchensoftware) kann nicht von einem einzelnen programmierer in einem sinnvollen zeitrahmen erstellt werden -> programmiererteam notwendig
- OSS und freie software lebt von der entwicklung bei der viele (ob als tester oder programmierer) beteiligt sind, das fehlt bei diesem modell völlig und ist für mich grund zu behaupten, dass es so nicht funktionieren wird
ich halte es für viel besser, wenn die software von anfang an frei ist, aber mit dem versuch alles 100%ig abzurechnen kommt man da nicht weit

ja, ich weiß, daß das die gängige Meinung ist. Man ist fest davon überzeugt, daß ein Team für eine bestimmte Arbeit nötig ist, deshalb gestaltet man von vornherein einen Overhead, der wiederum erst das Team nötig macht.
Mit dieser Meinung ecke ich ständig an, sie basiert aber auf sovielen Erfahrungen, daß ich sie in ganz vielen Fällen für richtig halte. Nicht immer natürlich. Ein KDE- oder Office-Paket fällt sicher nicht mehr unter diese Überzeugung, ich spreche mich lediglich dafür aus, daß man die Grenzen der persönlichen Leistungsfähigkeit erheblich weiter stecken kann, als das allgemein gedacht wird, _sofern_ man die Dinge in einem einzigen Kopf verwirklicht.
Die gesamte Verwaltungssoftware meiner Firma (www.wut.de) basiert seit über 20 Jahren auf einem von mir in C selbst geschriebenen Programm, das alle Bereiche von Lagerverwaltung, Fakturierung, Buchhaltung, Mahnwesen, Textverarbeitung usw. abdeckt. Seit ein paar Jahren hat _ein_ (hervorragender) Mitarbeiter die Sache mehr und mehr übernommen. Aber es ist immer noch im wesentlichen ein Ein-Kopf-Projekt, das sich nicht nur intern seit Ewigkeiten bewährt, sondern auch schon zahlreiche Mittel- und Großbetriebsprüfungen des Finanzamtes überstanden hat. Kommentar des letzten Prüfers: "Solch ein Programm findet man ja eigentlich nur in Konzernen".
Abgesehen davon: Das Bankkontenmodell zwingt zu keiner bestimmten Arbeitsweise. Wer die Sache anders sieht, kann sich problemlos in einem Team organisieren und als Gruppe mitmachen.

das ist ein sehr wichtiger Gedanke, den ich mir noch etwas länger durch den Kopf gehen lassen muß.

man muß 'halt drüber nachdenken. Die jetzige Situation finde ich für die Programmierer nämlich auch nicht befriedigend. So ein bißchen wird im Moment die "Ausbeutung der Kunden" ersetzt durch eine "Ausbeutung der Programmierer"... Man braucht ein ausgewogenes Modell, das z.Zt. wohl noch nicht existiert und ich finde es toll, daß soviele Leute hier laut mitdenken, wie so etwas wohl gestaltet sein könnte.

wie lange hast du gebraucht, bist du das programm als halbwegs fertig betrachtet hast?
du musst außerdem bedenken, dass du die software für dich geschrieben hast und somit auch das ziel viel besser kennst als ein programmierer, der in auftragsarbeit arbeitet
