Naja, ist ja nicht so viel Arbeit. Schreib ihnen doch einfach, ob es die CD auch für GNU/Linux gibt.

Ich hatte für den WDR Radiorekorder[1] auch eine Anfrage nach einer Linux-Version gestellt. Für W&M gibt es jeweils eine, für Linux nicht. Die Begründung des WDR war:

(Zur Entwicklung kommen ja immer auch Updates und Support, die wir kostenlos leisten.) Darum ist zur Zeit leider keine Version für Linux-Rechner geplant.

Die interessante Frage ist doch der Sourcecode. Ist der erhältlich, dann kann man es nach Linux portieren -> Aufwand Null für den Anbieter Wenn nicht .....
Dann die Protokolle, werden M$ spezifische Protokolle verwendet ? Wenn die proprietär sind kann man einwenden, das es kein sinnvoller Einsatz des Geldes ist, eine amerikanische Firma zu sponsorn.

Ich denke auch, dass wir uns bei solchen Anfragen darauf konzentrieren sollten, nach Freier Software und nicht nach GNU/Linux Lauffaehigkeit zu fragen.

Kurzes Update vielleicht: Ich habe auf meine Rückfrage nach offenen Standards eine leicht abgewandelte Antwort der Originalen bekommen. Auf Grund von wirtschaftlichen Gründen wird keine Linux-Software angeboten. Habe dies auf ein Missverständis zurück geführt und nocheinaml nachgefragt. Mal sehen ;)

Ich plädiere dafür, beide Ansätze im Auge zu behaulten... Sowas verstärkt sich nach meiner Einschätzung gegenseitig.
Greifbare Ergebnisse sollte man sich von einer solchen Anfrage eh nicht erhoffen -- es geht vielmehr darum, überhaupt erst ein Bewusstsein für unsere Anliegen zu schaffen :-)

Es soll Untersuchungen geben, nach denen (auf Kisten, vor denen ein User sitzt,) Ubuntu vor allem in Europa bereits weiter verbreitet ist als MacOSX.
Nunja, müsste man einmal recherchieren.
Ich glaube, die Beschränkung auf die beiden (im Wesentlichen) proprietären Betriebssysteme liegt daran, dass sie Microsoft-Office voraussetzen, welches es zwar (in etwas verkrüppelter Form) für MacOSX, aber nicht für GNU/Linux oder einen anderes Freies Betriebssystem gibt.
(Wine und Crossover sind mir bekannt.)

Die einzigen mir bekannten Zahlen, die sich tatsächlich auf Fakten stützen, sind Webnutzungs-Statistiken -- und die zeichnen leider ein ziemlich trübes Bild :-(
Man kann natürlich spekulieren, dass solche Statistiken aufgrund unterschiedlicher Nutzungsgewohnheiten ein falsches Bild abgeben... Aber dass sie *so* weit daneben liegen, kann ich mir kaum vorstellen :-(

Grundsätzlich hast Du ja recht. Aber diese Softwaresammlung dürfte für einen GNU/Linux-User nur von begrenztem Wert sein, da er für die dort abgedeckten Aufgaben sicherlich eine Auswahl an Freier Software hat.
Man sollte das Paket gleichwohl gründlich untersuchen auch im Hinblick darauf, ob Offene standards z.B. beim Dokumentenformat unterstützt werden.

In so einem Fall könnte man doch aber auch die freien Tools zumindest als Liste zur Verfügung stellen. Zumindest mein Verständnis.
Bei Gesprächen zeigt sich oftmals, dass viele freie Software nicht nutzen, weil sie diese einfach nicht kennen.
