(sorry, I don't know if webmaster@fsfeurope.org is the right place for that. I just emailed education@gnu.org, but without answer. If you know a better contact for us, please let me know).
The team@fsfeurope.org address reaches the core team directly. The two mailinglists discussion@fsfeurope.org and fsfe-de@fsfeurope.org also are good places to get in contact with all or the German speaking FSFE people.
At http://www.fsfeurope.org/education/education.html I read that the FSF Europe actively supports the use of Free Software in education. I alsothink that the use of Free Software and documentation at schools is one of the main tasks of the "community" in the near future.
I agree.
I would like to point you to the German PingoS project, which is offering free Linux support for schools and writing school software and documentation under the GPL. The homepage (currently only available in German language) is at http://www.pingos.schulnetz.org, but you can find a short description of the project in English language at http://www.pingos.schulnetz.org/description/.
We are very interested in getting in contact with other projects that are promoting free software at schools. We just got some contact with the Ofset project (http://www.ofset.org), with OpenWebSchool (http://www.openwebschool.org) and with Ganesha's project (http://www.ganeshas-project.org).
It would be very nice to here from you what you think of our project, and if you see some way that we can cooperate.
From what I know about PingoS, the project focusses on some of the practial advantages of GNU/Linux and Free Software. It is stressed several times that "Linux" comes without costs. Personally I feel that the project should gently also introduced to the mid-term and long-term advantages gained through Free Software.
Maybe we can meet and chat about how we can help each others. I think Georg Greve will be in Berlin for the WOS2 and the FSFE will have a small booth at the Systems in Munich from 15-19. Oktober. These might be good occasions.
Note that I am not necessarily lead the education efforts of the FSFE.
Best, Bernhard

There is also the education mailing list, reachable via the FSFE education pages.

I intend to go to the WOS2, too.

I think that's mostly Hilaire and me. :-)
Bye, Christian
Hello Bernhard, hello FSFE-Team,
(sorry, I'm replying to both lists):

Thanks for the hints! I'm subscribed to both lists now, looking forward to fruitful discussions. :)

Ack.
It is stressed several times that "Linux" comes without costs.
But that is not the main point in our argumentation. On http://www.pingos.schulnetz.org/degenhar/ you can find a "Pingos.txt" (only in German, sorry). In Section 2 I'm summarising the main advantages that we see for the use of GNU/Linux at schools.
Personally I feel that the project should gently also introduced to the mid-term and long-term advantages gained through Free Software.
Ack. I'm thinking about that (may take a while ;)). We see the advantages of Free Software. That's why we are trying to focus on our (currently) 5 software projects and the SelfLinux documentation. May be we should try to make that more transparent to the outside. But, to be fair, we currently have the problem that our members seem to have not that much time for developing their software projects (me included, because I'm more busy doing the administrative work that has to be done). Short: Point taken!
Maybe we can meet and chat about how we can help each others. I think Georg Greve will be in Berlin for the WOS2
It seems that Andreas Tille of the PingoS project will be at WOS, but only on thursday and friday.
and the FSFE will have a small booth at the Systems in Munich from 15-19. Oktober.
Ok, fine. We have a booth there, too.
These might be good occasions.
Yes. I'm planning to be in Munich, too (I think friday till sunday). I will try to meet some of you there.
Thanks for your mail, Bernhard (and for yours, too, Christian!).
Btw: Would it be ok for you if we switch to German language and to discuss further on fsfe-de?
Rgds. Heiko.

Still the most stressed point is low costs. Not much about Freedom of software and its advantages for education. Browsing did not reveal that the GNU-Projekt which made Linux-based operatings possible is mentioned.

I wanted to write "the project should introduce..."

Sure. I just mailed to both lists to keep interested people informed so that they can respond.
