Sehr guter Artikel! Vielen Dank für den Hinweis darauf.
Ich schicke den Link all jenen die mich bisher fragten, warum es das eine oder andere Problem mit Windows gibt und ich eigentlich hätte sagen wollen "Der Grund dafür ist, dass es proprietäre Software ist" und dem dann eigentlich ein 2stündiger Vortrag über freie Software folgen müsste.
Wenn jemand die Argumente für freie Software gehört hat und die Kritik an unfreier ebenfalls und diese Person sich trotzdem noch für Windows/Skype/Mac OS/<whatnot> entscheidet, ist mir das lieber als würde sie das ohne jegliches Verständnis darüber benutzen.

Das ist was dran.
Von meiner Seite her könnte mehr Augenmerk auf "proprietäre Software tut Dinge, die ich eigentlich nicht will". Da wäre das Sony Rootkit ein tolles Beispiel.
Dass Virenscanner und Firewall-Programme sind in freien Betriebssystemen für den Heimanwender deshalb bereits überflüssig seinen, weil Freie Software immer sicherer würde, ist keine so klarer Kausalzusammenhang.
Zumal auch nicht viele Leute auf ihrem GNU/Linux Heimrechner iptables aus dem Kern entfernen ... ;)

Bis auf die BIOS-Meldung kamen übrigens alle nach dem Statement, Skype würde aus Sicherheitsgründen proprietär bleiben.

Also ich finde den Artikel gut! Ich würde aber lieber "Proprietäre Software" anstatt "unfreie Software" und "Proprietäre Hardware-Treiber" anstatt "eingeschränkte Hardware-Treiber" (diesen Ausdruck haben die Ubuntu Entwickler erfunden oder?) sagen.
Generell finde ich vor allem diese Loslösung vom konkreten Ereignis auf eine allgemeine Betrachtung sehr schön, wenn auch (wie schon gesagt) Fakten natürlich die Glaubwürdigkeit unterstützen, dennoch wird dadurch eine Betrachtung, die auch weiterdenkt als heute, möglich und den Tendenzen und Ideen viel klarer darstellt, denn ich denke mal, seit dem "Bayerntrojaner" wissen wir ja tendenziell, wie die Online-Durchsuchung aussehen wird, und auch DRM Systeme sind überwindbar, jedoch sind sie deshalb noch lange nicht gerechtfertigt.
Denn für mich zählt nicht, was praktisch passiert, um sagen zu können, ob etwas gerechtfertigt ist, sondern was theoretisch möglich ist. Wenn man einem Sklaven beispielsweise gut versorgt, heißt das noch lange nicht, dass Sklaverei gerechtfertigt ist.

Theoretisch wäre es auch möglich, dass die Hersteller von unfreier Software solche sicher machen und die Privatsphäre der Nutzer wahren. Daten auf dem Web zu speichern sei schliesslich so, als würde mensch Geld auf die Bank bringen - also sicherer. Weiterhin schützt das deutsche Rechtssystem, mit den hohen Hürden auch die Privatsphäre der Durchsuchten und Abgehörten.
Theoretische Argumente hat die Gegenseite halt auch. Ein paar praktische Beispiele machen eine Argumentation greifbar und viel glaubwürdiger.
