Finde ich sehr lobenswert, aber ich sehe auf Anhieb noch nicht, wie ich mit meiner Firma da mitmischen könnte. Meine Firma (Rumma & Ko http://www.saffre-rumma.net/ mit Sitz in Estland) lebt seit 16 Jahren mit Profit ausschließlich von freier Software. Wir beschränken uns auf ein einziges Produkt namens Lino http://www.saffre-rumma.net/lino/, einem Framework zum Erstellen von Datenbankanwendungen. Allerdings sind wir erst seit 3 Jahren ein Team, davor war ich allein. Wir haben ca. 20 Kunden, die jährliche Beiträge zahlen und dafür Support bekommen. Es funktioniert sehr zufriedenstellend für alle Beteiligten und bis zu meiner Pensionierung in 15 Jahren wird das voraussichtlich so weiterlaufen. Die einzige Sorge meiner Kunden ist, wie wir das Überleben des Produkts Lino auch über meine Person hinaus gewährleisten können. Eigentlich denke ich bisher an die Gründung einer Lino Software Foundation http://www.saffre-rumma.net/jobs/pm/, ähnlich wie es das für Python und Django gibt. Aber ich werde mich hüten, diese Idee alleine zu verwirklichen.
Noch ein Gedanke: ich glaube, dass die FFI dann einen klaren Katalog von unterstützten Produkten anbieten müsste, wo jeder Kunde der FFI sich seine Palette rauspickt (und entsprechend zahlt). Die FFI müsste als Gegenleistung dann gewährleisten, dass der Kunde für jedes gemeldete Problem einen kompetenten Ansprechpartner zugewiesen bekommt.

Da mich das Thema sehr interessiert, habe ich schon mal quergelesen. Es gefällt mir gut, dass es Verweise auf andere Ansätze gibt, erst dann lässt sich bei genauerer Analyse sagen, ob der Ansatz wirklich anders genug ist.
Der Ansatz flattr fehlt bisher.

Zum Begriff "Projekt" die Dauerhaftigkeit einer FS-Initative oft nicht darstellt.
Das Grundproblem sind nicht umbedingt die Zahlungsmöglichkeiten, sondern die Zahlungsbereitschaft. Wer jetzt etwas für Freie Software tun möchte, der kann bereits viele Freie Software-Initiativen finanziell unterstützen. Das noch leichter zu machen, halte ich auch für ein Geschäftsmodell, eines das besonders gut zu GNU/Linux oder anderen FS-Distributoren passen würde (z.B: fdroid.)
Also schon mal ein wenig Rückmeldung! .)

Aber weitere projektübergreifende Organisationen gibt es einige: SPI, ASF und wie sie alle heißen.
Für ein Projekt,welches nachhaltig Geld braucht, stellt sich die Frage, ob es sich einer der bestehenden projektübergreifenden Organisationen anschließt (und ob es dort aufgenommen wird) oder ob es sich eine eigene juristische Entität schafft. Beides hat Vor- und Nachteile.

ich frage mich, warum der Verfasser meint, "Verkauf von Support" stehe im "Konflikt mit dem Ziel die bestmögliche Freie Software zu bekommen".Ich glaube, da unterschätzt jemand, welche Bedeutung (kostenpflichtiger) Support im Unternehmensumfeld hat. Nur große Unternehmen mit entsprechend besetzter IT-Abteilung können Support selbst stemmen und auch die lagern es häufig aus.
Aus der schleswig-holsteinischen Landesregierung höre ich, daß es generell schwierig sei, FLOSS-Anbieter mit ausreichenden Support-Kapazitäten zu finden. Und auch von Limux (München) munkelt man, daß es beim Support geknirscht hat (abgesehen von den bekannten politschen Problemen).
Alle im Artikel angesprochenen Finanzierungsvarianten können nur Beiwerk sein. Wer FLOSS im Unternehmensbereich etablieren will, muß sich ein Projekt suchen, gegebenenfalls forken, die Verantwortung übernehmen und den Support verkaufen. So wie es Luc Saffre mit Lino beschrieben hat.
Der Artikel beschreibt eine ziemlich komplizierte Konstruktion, bei der (mir) unklar ist, wer die Verantwortung trägt. Den Unternehmer interessiert nur "wen rufe ich an, wenns hakt", "wie schnell kommt der" und "was kostet das".
Ich kenne mehrere Freiberufler im medizinisch-sozialen Bereich, die sich mit Cortana ausgesprochen unwohl fühlen, aber keinen geeigneten FLOSS-Anbieter finden, der die Leistung und Abrechnung im Gesundheitswesen kompetent begleitet. Es ist schon schwierig, Hardware mit Linux-Unterstützung zu finden ("die Zertifizierung ist uns zu teuer"). Wenn die Branchensoftware nur unter MS-Win läuft, dann wird der ganze Desktop bei MS bleiben. Nach der Branchensoftware kommt das Buchhaltungssystem (Datev = MS-Win!).
Aus meiner Sicht geht der Artikel an den tatsächlichen Problemen im Unternehmensbereich völlig vorbei. Das ganze Modell sieht aus wie eine komplizierte Konstruktion zur Verschleierung der Verantwortung (= Haftung!). Tatsächlich fehlt es an IT-Unternehmern, die bereit und in der Lage sind, mit vollem unternehmerischen Risiko auf FLOSS zu setzen, vor allem im Bereich von Branchensoftware. Und natürlich gibt es das Henne/Ei-Problem. Auch das ist nur mit risikobereitem Unternehmertum zu lösen. Auch FLOSS-geneigte Länderinitiativen wie in SH werden scheitern, wenn sich keine Anbieter finden.
Das Hauptproblem, das FLOSS und Linux auf dem Desktop insgesamt obsolet machen könnte, sehe ich im Bereich staatlicher Schnittstellen, und dort ist dringend Lobby-Arbeit nötig. Schön zu sehen bei der Steuerverwaltung (ELSTER-Schnittstelle), die FLOSS kategorisch ausschließt. Wenn berufliche Abrechnungs- und Kommunikationssysteme (Personalausweis, Gesundheitskarte und anderes) - rechtlich oder tatsächlich - nur für MS-Win unterstützt werden, wird in Zukunft niemand mehr freie Betriebssysteme auf dem Desktop nutzen können.

Ich glaube hier liegt ein Missverständnis vor. Mir geht es um Software für (private) Endnutzer. Sowas wie Office, Mailclienten, Browser-Plugins, Grafikprogramme, etc. Das ist meiner Meinung nach Software die für die allermeisten Leute ohne bezahlten Support funktionieren muss, sonst ist sie nicht gut.
Deswegen sehe ich da einen Zielkonflikt: Wenn ich darauf angewiesen bin, dass mir Leute Support abkaufen, habe ich keinen Anreiz, das Programm selbsterklärend zu gestalten.
Das heißt nicht, dass ich das Geschäftsmodell Support zu verkaufen, grundsätzlich für schlecht halte, sondern nur dass es meiner Meinung nach für bestimmte wichtige "Marktsegmente" nicht das richtige ist.
Vielleicht sollte das aus dem Artikel deutlicher herauskommen.
Auf die anderen Punkte (auch aus den anderen Mails) gehe nach meinem Urlaub ein. Vermutlich werde ich einen eigenen kurzen Blogbeitrag schreiben, der die verschiedenen Punkte nochmal darstellt und dann darauf eingeht.

Darauf können nur die Allergrößten bieten kleinst, kleine und mittlere Unternehmen haben eigentlich keine Chance, damit sind einige der kompetentesten Freie Software Anbieter raus.
Mit Intevation habe ich, mit einem riesigen Partner auf den Vorgängervortrag geboten (und verloren), das war teuer.

Aus meiner Sicht geht der Artikel an den tatsächlichen Problemen im Unternehmensbereich völlig vorbei.

Tatsächlich fehlt es an IT-Unternehmern, die bereit und in der Lage sind, mit vollem unternehmerischen Risiko auf FLOSS zu setzen, vor allem im Bereich von Branchensoftware. Und natürlich gibt es das Henne/Ei-Problem. Auch das ist nur mit risikobereitem Unternehmertum zu lösen.
Da gebe ich Dir Recht, es muss Anbieter geben. Aber es muss auch Abnehmer mit Mut und Gestaltungswillen geben.
Auch FLOSS-geneigte Länderinitiativen wie in SH werden scheitern, wenn sich keine Anbieter finden.
Für größere Initiativen sind die Anbieter auf jeden Fall da, im Zweifel bauen sie halt eine Abteilung auf.

Mit "Hardware mit Linux-Unterstützung zu finden ("die Zertifizierung ist uns zu teuer")" meinte ich nicht Laptops, sondern Spezialhardware, konkret die im Gesundheitswesen erfoderlichen zertifizierten Kartenleser. Das "zu teuer" Zitat stammt von einem Kartenleser-Hersteller mit sehr guter Linux-Unterstützung. Schuld ist hier natürlich auch wieder der Staat mit seinen Vorgaben.

Das "zu teuer" Zitat stammt von einem Kartenleser-Hersteller mit sehr guter Linux-Unterstützung. Schuld ist hier natürlich auch wieder der Staat mit seinen Vorgaben.
Tatsächlich treibt so manche Anforderung und Zertifizierung dafür die Einstiegkosten höher. Manches davon ist zuviel. Andererseits machen die Hersteller schon, was die Kunden wünschen und die öffentliche Hand kann ja gerade in sensiblen Bereichen die Zertifizierung fördern oder sogar ganz finanzieren.

Der damit entstehende Vendor-Lock-in macht es in jedem irgendwie auf Fortbestand angelegte Einrichtung notwendig, dass die Dienstleister/Zulieferer die nötige wirtschaftliche (und personelle) Stabilität bieten können. Das Ganze wird dann oft noch mit Maßnahmen wie der Hinterlegung des Quellcodes bei Notaren für den Fall des Konkurs garniert.
Genau hier zeigen sich aber die Vorteile Freier Software. Der Code ist bereits im Haus. Es gibt keinen Lock-in, auch nicht bei Individualsoftware. Wenn die Erstellende/Implementierende Instanz baden geht oder einfach keine Kapazitäten hat um Feature X zu implementieren oder Bug Y zu beseitigen, dann kann man, so es keine Exklusivitätsvereinbarungen gibt, jederzeit jemand anderes damit beauftragen. Ich finde, dass genau diese Punkte im Zusammenhang mit der Forderung nach stärkerer Ausrichtung von Ausschreibung auf Freie Software auch stärker hervorgehoben werden müssen. Freie Software ist nunmal keine Alternative Form von proprietärer Software sondern ein ganz eigenes Konstrukt, dem rechtlich und Rechnung getragen werden muss.
Allerdings, dass möchte ich betonen, sind Aspekte wie Sicherheitskonzepte, Compliance, Governance auch bei Freier Software wichtig. Genau hier sehe ich bei vielen kleineren Anbietern, die sich eher auf die Softwarelösung konzentrieren noch oft Handlungsbedarf. Andererseits haben wir mit Sernets Verinince bereits einen tollen Player im Boot um die größten Schwierigkeiten zu adressieren.

Verinice [1] ist ein Tool zur Pflege eines Informationssicherheitsmanagementsystems nach BSI-Grundschutz oder ISO27001 sowie Verfahrensverzeichnisse nach DS-GVO. Damit kann schon ein großer Teil gängiger Compliance-Anforderungen abgedeckt werden, wenngleich das Thema auch mit Tools immer noch komplex bleibt. Trotzdem ist es eine Lösung, die Freie Software ist (GPL) und zumindest für den BSI-Grundschutz sind die Katalogdaten zusammen mit Verinice frei verfügbar, für ISO 27001 stehen dem leider Copyright-Gründe mit den ISO-Dokumenten im Wege. Sollte man eine Zertifizierung anstreben, sind die Kosten dafür aber wohl das geringste Problem. :)
Es ist ansonsten etwas verwegen, von der Website aus an den Code [2] zu kommen, aber die Software-Builds vordergründig zu verkaufen ist ja kein Widerspruch zur GPL.

in dem Fall ging es aber nicht um "hat 100 Leute", sondern kann diese für Dienstleistungen extern zur Verfügung stellen. Das ist nochmal eine höhere Anforderung.
Ansonsten gebe ich Dir recht, hier wird oft ungeschickt ausgeschrieben und nicht darauf Rücksicht genommen, dass IT modular sein kann und Freie Software ein erheblich geringere Lock-In-Effekte mitbringt.

Stimm zwar, aber hier könnten die potentiellen Käufer sehr viel tun, indem sie die Kosten anteilig oder stark mittragen. Ein Teil der Schriftlage dient nur einer bürokratischen Absicherung und wird bei allen eingesetzen Produkten notwendig.
Andererseits haben wir mit Sernets Verinince bereits einen tollen Player im Boot um die größten Schwierigkeiten zu adressieren.
Eine Dokumentation nach ISO27001 oder IT-Grundschutz ist aufwändig und oft bürokratisch, für viele IT-Lösungen überhaupt nicht notwendig.
