vom 9-11. März findet in Düsseldorf eine Tagung statt mit dem Titel:
"Entwicklung einer hochschulweiten IT-Architektur mit Open Source" [1]
So weit, so gut. Allerdings finden sich auf den Seiten Dinge wie
"Dass es nicht ohne Closed-Source-Software geht, zeigen die zahlreichen Informationsstände rund um die Veranstaltungsräume."
O.o
Und ein Vortrag mit dem Titel 'Open "ja" - aber nicht Open Source'
:o wait, what!?
Ich bin Mitglied des Bildungsteams der FSFE und kann damit derzeit gar nichts anfangen. Was ist der "Spin" hinter dieser Veranstaltung?
Die Teilnahme ist für Studenten kostenlos. Gibt es hier welche, die bereit wären sich das mal anzugucken?
Nur gucken und berichten wäre schon sehr hilfreich. Noch besser natürlich wenn gute Kommentare und Fragen gestellt werden. :)

Du würdest aber in den Genuss des "Düsseldorfer Besucherbetreuungsprogramms" kommen. Über die Abendgestaltung brauchst Du Dir also keine Sorgen zu machen.
Selbstverständlich gilt dies auch für alle anderen Fellows, die diese Veranstaltung besuchen wollen.

vielen Dank für den Hinweis. Gerade auch mit dem entstehen des Bündnis Freie Bildung [1] sind solche Veranstaltungen mehr und mehr im Fokus der FSFE.

Meine Vermutung: "Es sieht immer doof aus, wenn wir so viel Steuergeld für den Kauf der proprietären Produkte unserer privaten Geldgeber aus dem Fenster werfen, also lasst uns wenigstens so tun, als hätten wir vorher den Einsatz freier Software ernsthaft in Erwägung gezogen uns aber mit schwerem Herzen nach einer seriösen und unabhängigen Prüfung durch Spezialexperten weitestgehend dagegen entschieden."

Ich möchte natürlich niemand auf dumme Gedanken bringen, aber für GI-Mitglieder scheint die Teilnahme auch kostenlos zu sein und eine GI-Mitgliedschaft kostet weniger als der Teilnahmepreis. Über die GI höre zumindest ich fast nur schlechtes, aber mutmaßlich ist die Mitgliedschaft vertraulich ...
Außerdem könnte natürlich auch die FSFE mal anfragen, ob Fellows oder zumindest ein paar FSFE-Abgesandte ebenfalls freien Eintritt bekommen.

Im Gegensatz zu proprietärer Software kann bei Open Source Software jederzeit Einblick in den Quellcode genommen werden damit die Funktionsweise verstanden werden. Erweiterungen und Ergänzungen sind damit für versierte Programmierer kein Problem und Open Source Software kann daher exakt an die Bedürfnisse angepasst werden. Andererseits besteht keine tiefe Abhängigkeit von einer Herstellerfirma, da die Software bei Bedarf, nach entsprechender Risikoabschätzung, durch Open Source Software ausgetauscht werden kann.

Prof. Dr. Schneider propagiert hier also Closed-Source-Software, weil bei Open-Source-Software die Listen mit Anpassungswünschen nicht oder nur schwer verweigert werden können. Das ist schon mal per se fragwürdig.
Aber dann fordert er Pflichtenhefte für Lösungen, die offene Standards umsetzen; das scheint seine Umschreibung für Closed-Source zu sein; klar, bei Open-Source-Lösungen definiert man ja auch keine Pflichtenhefte. Eine tiefe Abhängigkeit von einem Hersteller bestünde aber nicht, denn man könne ja immer noch zu Open-Source-Programmen wechseln.
Und da ist der Kreis geschlossen. So scheint das im Elfenbeinturm in Freiburg gelehrt zu werden. Irre.
Zum Glück sind die anderen Vorträge wohl fundierterer Natur.

Das muss man sich mal auf der Zunge zergehen lassen: "Die blöde Freie Software, da können wir bei Wünschen der Anwender nicht mehr einfach sagen, das geht nicht, sondern wir müssen uns damit beschäftigen."
Auf der anderen Seite zeigt das wieder einmal auf faszinierende Weise, wie sich die Anwender bei proprietärer Software an "das geht nicht" gewöhnt haben und wie diskussions- und widerspruchslos sie das schlucken.
