wieder einmal möglicherweise eine Meta-Diskussion, in der ich sehr akut gerade sitze: Sicher nicht nur in meiner Branche (Bau-Industrie) ist gerade "Digitalisierung von Kunden und Prozessen" ein großes Thema. Das wird in allen nur denkbaren Facetten durch und in den Markt getrieben, dazu gehören Prozesse, Modelle, Anwendungen und dergleichen. All das ist im Wesentlichen getrieben nicht von Software-Entwicklern, sondern eher von fachlichen Anwendern mit Affinität für/zu Technologie. Aus diesem Umstand heraus sind die Implementationen in der überwiegenden Menge hochproprietär und/oder geschlossen. Punktuell gibt es Open-Source - Komponenten, die Teilaspekte davon abbilden; eine richtige "freie" Community, ein freies Ökosystem dazu sehe ich nicht.
Im Umkehrschluss fällt mir auf, daß viele der Themen, mit denen sich die FLOSS-Community traditionell beschäftigt - offene Betriebssysteme, offene Büro-Anwendungen, offene soziale Netzwerke, ... - vergleichsweise "low level" sind und aus der Betrachtung schon deswegen herausfallen, weil bestimmte Herangehensweisen und Anforderungen völlig abweichen. Wenn $Nutzer davon ausgeht, daß "Google" oder "Microsoft 365" das Problem "Desktop-Office" und "Kollaboration an Dokumenten" erschöpfend löst, ist ein LibreOffice nicht nur keine Option mehr, sondern potentiell gänzlich irrelevant.
Unscharfe Frage daher: Gibt es innerhalb FSF(E) "jemanden" oder eine Gruppe von Leuten, die sich mit solchen Themen beschäftigen, wahlweise abstrakt oder für konkrete Domains? Seht Ihr hier ein Risiko, daß wir zwar in einzelnen Teilaspekten valide Punkte machen können, im "großen Ganzen" aber entlang des Hype-Themas "Digitalisierung" eher unter die Räder kommen?

nur kurz ein paar Anmerkungen:
1. Ja, es gibt Menschen, die sich für Freie "Branchenlösungen" interessieren, beispielsweise für Rechtsanwälte oder Ärzte. Das sind jetzt mehr "Freiberufler" und keine Industrie.
Allgemein liegt der Fokus eher auf KMU.
2. Es ist gut, wenn Fachleute aus der jeweiligen Branche mit Entwicklern zusammenarbeiten. Entwickler brauchen Kenntnisse von der Organisation, den Abläufen und Prozessen der jeweiligen Branche.
3. Aus Sicht der Unternehmen "lohnt" sich Freie Software nur dann, wenn das Interesse an einer Kollaboration größer ist, als das eines (vermeintlichen) Vorsprungs im Wettbewerb.

Bei Cloud setzt es bei KMUs und in der Industrie von der betriebswirtschaftlichen Seite her betrachtet leider komplett aus. Ich bekomme das nur bei Microsoft Azure mit, bei der Beraterfirmen ihre Kunden überzeugen ihre komplette On-Prem Infrastruktur in der Cloud abzubilden. Die Cloud bzw. Azure ist dann sogar meistens teurer als das, was sie On-Prem hatten. Aber immerhin können sie ihre Administratoren entlassen und sich deren Gehalt sparen.
Zum Thema quelloffen und Cloud: Dass mehr als 51% der Azure VMs mittlerweile Linux-Maschinen sind, macht dabei keinen Unterschied.
Ich habe es leider auch noch nicht erlebt, dass KMUs sich auch Angebote von Consulting Partnern und IT Systemhäusern einholen, die ein Open Source-Portfolio haben. Ich hoffe natürlich, dass es das gibt. Es ist halt leider meine persönliche Erfahrung, dass die Angebote mit Sicherheit von Firmen kommen, die Microsoft-Produkte wie Office365 verkaufen und nicht das, was ökonomisch vielleicht sinnvoller wäre.

Richtig. Das ist auch meine Erkenntnis, und Hinterfragen / Blick auf die Dinge zeigt für mich, daß Systemhäuser meist überhaupt nicht als Alternativen zu den Plattformen wahrgenommen werden, mit denen (zumindest in meiner Domäne) die Nutzer sonst konfrontiert sind. Beispiele: Autodesk BIM360 in der Cloud liefert komplexe Planungs- und Koordinationslösungen. Microsoft Office 365 liefert in der Cloud eine funktionsfähige Office-Lösung. Google Apps for Enterprises liefern Mail, Kalender, Dokumentenablage, Kontaktverwaltung "im Browser" und quer über alle mobilen Geräte.
Systemhäuser werden demgegenüber wahrgenommen als Leute, die dem Kunden helfen, solche Infrastruktur selbst aufzubauen und "zu verantworten". Und genau das wollen die Kunden nicht (mehr). Die wollen nicht "Server mit Software für Office". Die wollen, analog etwa zu Google, das Produkt "<n>mal Arbeitsumgebung Kalender, Mail, Dokumentenablage für meine Nutzer" einkaufen. Ich sehe sehr wenige (keine?) Systemhäuser, die das so anbieten können. So gesehen passt das in der Tat nicht in eine Excel-Tabelle, weil es ein Äpfel/Birnen-Vergleich ist.
Dazu kommt in meiner Wahrnehmung konkret im Bau noch ein anderes Thema: Die großen Beteiligten sind sehr gut aufgestellt. Die kleinen nicht. Dort steigen viele jetzt in Digitalisierung ein und überspringen damit mehrere Schritte, die andere Branchen genommen haben. Dort geht es nicht mal drum, die zwei Admin-Stellen zu streichen, Dort geht es darum, daß es teilweise diese Stellen nie gab - auch nicht die Kompetenz oder Einsicht in die Notwendigkeit, selbst in größerem Stil Infrastruktur zu betreiben. An dem Punkt ist es dann doch kein Äpfel/Birnen-Vergleich mehr und passt für Betriebswirtschaftler auch gut in ein Excel: Was kostet es mich insgesamt (einschließlich ggfs. Personal, eigener Server, Hosting, Internet-Anbindung, ...), um einem Nutzer beispielsweise Kalender- und Mail-Dienste bereitzustellen. Mit Google oder Office 365 ist das sowohl in der Rechnung als auch in der Umsetzung relativ simpel, wenn auch nicht unbedingt "billiger". Mit einem Systemhaus wird das in der Rechnung und Bereitstellung deutlich interessanter - erst recht, wenn man mit eigenem Personal, Räumlichkeiten, ... plant.
Was mich dort umtreibt, deswegen die Diskussion hier: Ich habe dann und wann das Gefühl, daß "SoftwareLibre" in gewissen Domains potentiell mittelfristig irrelevant werden könnte - nicht, weil "Libre" irrelevant wird, sondern weil "Software" als solche zunehmend weniger eine Rolle spielt, wenn die Kunden nicht mehr Software einkaufen und am Markt nachfragen, sondern Dienste, für deren Bereitstellung irgendwo Software eine Rolle spielt, aber nichts ist, was man selbst betreiben will? Müssen wir uns hiermit überhaupt beschäftigen? Oder ist das ein anderes Thema?

Fazit: Keine SaaSS-Dienste verwenden, wenn einem an der eigenen Freiheit, Privatsphäre und Datenschutz etwas gelegen ist. Stattdessen Alternativen zur Nutzung von Servern schaffen. Z. B. mit Peer-to-Peer-Programme (P2P), über die TeilnehmerInnen verschlüsselte Daten austauschen können.

Ich vergleiche das gerne mit der Situation von RMS vor rund 30 Jahren. Er hat damals nicht gesagt: "Diese modernen Computer voll mit proprietärer Software sind schlecht, verwendet keine Computer mehr". Stattdessen hat er die Herausforderung angenommen die Welt der modernen Computer aktiv mit mitzugestalten, mit Freier Software. Hätte er damals die einfache Antwort gewählt "verwendet keine modernen Computer mehr" hätte der technische Fortschritt nicht halt gemacht. Wir wären in der selben digitalen Welt gelandet in der wir uns heute befinden, nur ohne Freie Software.
Vor der gleichen Frage stehen wir heute. Gestalten wir die neue Welt der Servern und Dienste aktiv mit und erhalten so unsere Freiheit? Oder werden wir irrelevant?

Richtig. Genau den Punkt sehe ich auch. Das wird so nicht funktionieren, aus mannigfaltigen Gründen - und ich weiß auch nicht wirklich, ob man das fordern sollte. Wir haben in allen Teilen der Gesellschaft Spezialisierung, in der Mehrzahl der Fälle ist das auch gar nicht schlecht (ich lasse mich lieber von einem auf sein Gebiet spezialisierten Arzt behandeln als von jemandem, der "Medizin-Quereinsteiger" ist), es braucht aber eben eine gewisse Regulierung und einen Rahmen.

Danke für den Link. Nach Querlesen fand ich den Artikel größtenteils recht gut (und auch ziemlich nah bei dem, was mir unter dem Schlagwort [1]LibreSaaS durch den Kopf geistert). Im Wesentlichen habe ich eigentlich die drei Punkte, die Du unter "Conclusions" subsummiert hast, in einer anderen gedanklichen Reihenfolge priorisiert (2 - 3 - 1) und noch ein paar Anforderungen dazu habe für die Möglichkeit, daß Software "durch Dritte" betrieben wird (klare und transparente Finanzierung, idealerweise Verschlüsselung, die mir tatsächlich *verläßlich* erlaubt zu kontrollieren, wer Zugriff auf meine Daten hat - also nicht Freigabemodus "privat und alle Administratoren").
Wie man das umsetzt, ist freilich noch eine andere Frage. Und dort stolpere ich derzeit. ;)

naja, es ist ja nicht mein Fazit, sondern dass von Stallman und der FSF. Das hätte ich besser kenntlich machen sollen. Im Grunde gebe ich dir recht und wir sollten dabei mithelfen, das vorhandene Internet freier zu machen. Ich bin kein Gegner von SaaS, sehe aber auch die Gefahr von SaaSS, welche RMS und die FSF in dem Artikel skizzieren.
Denn auf der anderen Seite ist das vorhandene Internet durch Digitale Rechte Minderung, bereits vorhandenen Uploadfiltern, Überwachungskapitalismus etc., kaputt. Da finde ich den Ansatz der FSF richtig, wenn sie sagt, dass ein neues Internet her muss. Eventuell mit P2P oder evtl. auch Zeronet.
Wie auch immer, wenn es das geben wird, wird das neue Internet aus Freier Software gebaut werden. Also zu deiner Frage: "Gestalten wir die neue Welt der Servern und Dienste aktiv mit und erhalten so unsere Freiheit? Oder werden wir irrelevant?" Vielleicht müssen wir beides tun.

Kein Widerspruch. Mir wäre es auch recht und wichtig, ein neues, besseres Internet zu bauen. Technologisch glaube ich, daß wir mit ZeroNet, IPFS und dergleichen ein paar gute Möglichkeiten auf der Hand haben, die auch richtig "gut" werden könnten, würden wir uns darauf fokussieren (was ich insbesondere bei sozialen Netzwerken nicht sehe - dort fließt zurzeit, glaube ich, die Kraft eher in "verteilte Systeme aus kleinen zentralistischen Strukturen" wie Mastodon oder das gesamte Fediverse).
Ansonsten: Wir müssen darauf achten, daß viele der Diskussionen, die wir in der Hand haben, mittlerweile(?) nicht mehr technischer, sondern gesellschaftlicher Natur sind, weil anno 2019 "das Internet" eine sehr viel breitere Nutzerschaft hat, die sehr viel heterogener ist als früher und sehr viel diversere Anforderungen hat. Ja, das Internet ist kaputt, aber nicht erst durch Uploadfilter oder DRM, sondern schon vorher gewesen. Einige willkürliche Beispiele:
- Uploadfilter. Ich finde die Idee extrem problematisch, sehe im Gegenzug aber auch, daß beispielsweise Flickr jetzt genau mit so etwas beginnen, aus einem klaren Problem heraus: Das Verteilen von Bildern, an denen man keine Rechte hat, ist auf der Plattform leider seit Jahren schon ein Problem, und offensichtlich stört sich niemand in der Breite daran. Gleiches gilt für Hatespeech und "fragwürdige" Inhalte: Ich bin mit einem Internet großgeworden, in dem es teilweise noch selbstverständlich war, daß es Newsgroups oder Mailinglisten mit Moderatoren gab, die illegalen, bösartigen oder schlicht per der dortigen Regeln unerwünschten Content geblockt oder Nutzer gesperrt haben. Das ist zurzeit deutlich schwieriger, weil die Nutzermenge sehr viel größer ist, aber es gibt klar Leute, denen diese Gegebenheiten schaden. Ich will keine Uploadfilter, aus verschiedenen Gründen, aber ich sehe, daß sie ins Feld geführt werden als (theoretisch) durchaus valide Lösung für Probleme, die wir bislang nicht besser gelöst haben.
=> Wir brauchen eine Idee, wir wir in einem globalen, sehr großen Netz mit Rechten an "Inhalten" umgehen. Wenn ich GPL-Software oder Bilder unter CC-BY-SA ins Netz werfe, habe ich *natürlich* die Erwartungshaltung, daß sich jene, die damit etwas tun, an diese meine rechtlichen Ideen zulässiger Nutzung halten. Wie kann jemand, der etwa Musik als "all rights reserved" oder auch nur CC-NC-ND auf seiner Website zum Download oder eben auf CD zum Kauf anbietet, sicherstellen, daß diese Rechtsvorgabe respektiert wird? Auch Dreck wie DRM ist an vielen Stellen letztlich nur die Folge des Umstands, daß wir hierfür keine andere/bessere Lösung haben.
- Überwachungskapitalismus: Auch nervig und potentiell extrem gefährlich. Gleichermaßen aber hat sich die überwiegende Mehrheit der Internet-Nutzer offensichtlich still darauf geeinigt, daß digitale Inhalte nichts kosten dürfen (Paywalls sind auch eher böse als akzeptiert) und Werbefinanzierung eigentlich der einzige Weg ist, der derzeit noch bleibt. Im Umkehrschluss werden mit Werbung und Trackern vollgestopfte Pages mit Adblockern genutzt - und es wird sich noch über die "dreisten" Anbieter beklagt, die ihren Content nicht ohne Werbung online, ggfs. gegen Spenden, "verschenken" wollen, sondern die Notwendigkeit haben, davon Journalisten/Autoren, Fotografen, Infrastruktur, Server, Bandbreite, ... planbar zu bezahlen. Dasselbe gilt für Apps in den großen App-Stores: Viele Nutzer schimpfen über Tracking etwa in Android-Apps aus Google Play, lassen aber teilweise unter den Tisch fallen, daß es in einer nicht unbeträchtlichen Zahl der Fälle "kostenlose" Varianten (mit Werbung/Tracking) und bezahlte Varianten (ohne Werbung/Tracking) gibt. Letzteres scheint aber eine Option zu sein, die gar nicht erst nicht in Betracht gezogen wird. Gleichermaßen werden "alternative" App-Stores wie F-Droid in letzter Zeit wieder und wieder durch die Medien gescheucht als Alternativen zu Google und Go., die tracking- und werbefrei und natürlich kostenlos sind.
=> Wir brauchen eine Finanzierungsidee für Dienste, Inhalte, ... im digitalen Zeitalter, in der es auch für Zeitungen, Verlage, Autoren, Musiker, ... Möglichkeiten gibt, irgendwie von ihrer Arbeit leben zu können. Momentan dürfen wir sicher sein, viele von denen als "Gegner" zu haben, weil wir für sie funktionierende Strukturen - an vielen Stellen leider *durchaus* zugunsten einer vorrangig auf "kostenlos" ausgelegten Herangehensweise - zerschlagen und keine Alternativen offerieren. Das ist weder fair noch nachhaltig und wird am Ende, wie wir sehen, zu Konsequenzen führen, die schlecht sind (Vertreter genau dieser Lobbies, die grenzwertige Gesetze forcieren; focus.de oder andere Clickbait-News-Sites, die nur darauf aus sind, mit faktisch *nicht* recherchierten oder redaktionell bearbeiteten +++NEWS-TICKER+++s Geld über Anzeigen zu verdienen; ...). Ein fairerer / sinnvollerer Adblocker im Browser würde nicht auf Seiten die Werbung unterdrücken, sondern über die *gesamte* Page ein schwarzes Overlay legen mit Text der Art "diese Site ist tracking-/werbefinanziert, Du möchtest lieber Inhalte konsumieren, die nachhaltiger und fairer entstanden sind". ;)
- Software: Ich habe im Firmenumfeld mit Google Apps for Enterprises zu tun. Mag ich nicht, aus verschiedenen Gründen, aber ich muß neidlos zugestehen, daß Verfügbarkeit, Integration der einzelnen Komponenten, Nutzbarkeit auch für *völlig* unversierte Endnutzer, ... durch andere Anbieter und Lösungen unerreicht ist. Konkret der Wechsel bei Kontakten und Kalendern von eigener ownCloud dorthin war interessant: Plötzlich ist die Notwendigkeit von Support für Endnutzern in diesen Bereichen intern faktisch weggefallen. Es gibt keine Probleme mehr - augenscheinlich funktioniert die Lösung einfach noch, und das Schlimmste, weswegen man 'mal gefragt wird, ist, warum der eine Besprechungsraum im Google Calendar noch nicht zu sehen ist. Früher(TM) war das anders: Mit ownCloud und Thunderbird als Desktop-Client gab es *beständig* mit Kalendern und Adressen und Synchronisierung dieses Krams irgendwelchen Ärger, und bei Nutzern, die parallel dazu noch mit mehreren Geräten (Laptop, Smartphone) unterwegs waren, ging das faktisch nie. NextCloud (wie ich privat lerne) ist um einiges besser, aber immer noch Meilen hinter Google. Das ist Mist. Ich weiß, warum das so ist, deswegen bin ich bereit, dort (mindestens privat) Kompromisse zu machen. Aber ich verstehe jeden, der nicht imstande oder willens ist, sich diesen Aufwand auf den Schirm zu holen für eine Lösung, bei der er sich Freiheit der Software und Autonomie der Daten erkauft mit einer in Größenordnungen schlechteren bzw. teils überhaupt nicht mehr gegebenen Nutzbarkeit.
=> Wir brauchen Modelle für "professional grade" SoftwareLibre. Ich *möchte* einen Dienst wie Google Apps for Enterprises selbst hosten können. Ich erwarte nicht mal, daß ich den geschenkt bekomme, sondern wäre durchaus bereit, dafür auch Geld zu bezahlen. Momentan gibt es das aber in sehr wenigen Fällen; in der Mehrzahl der FLOSS-Projekte erlebe ich dann Diskussionen in der Art: "Das ist Software, die von Freiwilligen in ihrer Freizeit gebaut wird und die Du kostenlos nutzen darfst, also sei dankbar und hab keine Ansprüche". Das ist in vielen Fällen nicht die Herangehensweise, die man will oder braucht.

Jein. Die Antwort ist zweigeteilt. Einerseits: Klares "Ja", SaaS gehört auf diese Liste. Und SaaS ist ein "Problem", in mancherlei Hinsicht, aber SaaS ist beherrschbar. Weil wir, im Raum Dresden, seit mindestens einem Jahr eine weitere Stelle für Operations/Systems Engineering besetzen müssten, der Markt derzeit faktisch leer und Selbstbetrieb spätestens mit den Dokumentations-Anforderungen der DSGVO zumindest für Kleinunternehmen und kleine Mittelständler durchaus ein Stück aufwendiger geworden ist, sprich mehr qualifizierte Ressourcen als vorher braucht.
Dann ist es gut, Software wie NextCloud oder Redmine zu haben, die prinzipiell FLOSS oder zumindest Open Source ist, aber der "offene Quelltext" ist hier nicht entscheidend. Entscheidend ist im Zweifelsfall: Die Anwendungen sind komplex, fallen im Zweifelsfall entweder dann um, wenn die eine Person im Unternehmen, die sie beherrscht, Urlaub hat oder krank ist, oder fallen in einer Art und Weise um, in der Reparatur schwer bis nicht möglich ist. Meine Historie an Own/NextCloud-Updates, die aus unerklärlichen, nicht recherchierbaren Gründen "schiefgegangen" sind und in einer Neuinstallation (und mehrstündigen Downtime) endeten, ist leider länger, als ich mir das wünschen würde.
Auf meine Idee, dieses Problemes Herr zu werden, hab ich für mich das Etikett "LibreSaaS"[1] geklebt, und das ist der Weg, den wir zurzeit versuchen, mit unserem lokalen RZ-Dienstleister umzusetzen, zunächst für uns und idealerweise mittelfristig auch für andere Kunden. Ich sehe durchaus, daß SaaS in der gegenwärtigen Arbeitsmarkt-Lage und auch vor dem Hintergrund von Aspekten wie Spezialisierung in allen Gebieten (die es auch außerhalb der IT gibt) ein langfristig valides Modell ist. SaaS hat halt den Vorteil, daß ich etwa personelle Ressourcen für Infrastrukturbetrieb anteilig bezahle, also nicht zwei Administratoren vor-, qualifiziert und bei Laune halten zu müssen, die sich den Großteil der Zeit bei mir langweilen und irgendwann abhanden kommen, weil es anderenorts interessantere Aufgaben gib. Erwartungshaltung wäre, daß ich es nurmehr "ethisch" vernünftig ordne und mit den richtigen Anforderungen herangehe: Muss ich auf biologisch und nachhaltig angebaute Zutaten verzichten, wenn ich nicht selbst koche, sondern mir im Restaurant Nahrung von einem Experten zubereiten lassen muss? ;)
Das ist für mich aber der einfachere Fall. Der problematischere sind Services wie beispielsweise AutoDesk BIM360[2]. Dort sieht die Sache anders aus: Diese werden überhaupt nicht als "Software" wahrgenommen. Dort ist *klar*, daß das nichts ist, was man lokal installiert und selbst betreibt. Dort ist Software nur Mittel zum Zweck, aber im Kern eher irrelevant. Solche Dienste werden bei einer guten Zahl der beteiligten Kunden auch nicht von einer herkömmlichen IT-Abteilung (= Leuten, die Workstations und Infrastruktur bereitstellen und pflegen), sondern von einer eher fachlich gelagerten Abteilung, auf die man derzeit gern Label wie "Digitalisierungsabteilungen" klebt und die die Aufgabe haben, den Markt zu beobachten, Lösungen zu beurteilen und zu werten und eine gute mittel- bis langfristige Strategie zu entwerfen, wie die Dinge, die man am Markt vorgefunden hat, zusammenpassen können. Dort ist Selbstbetrieb von Software nur in Ausnahmefällen überhaupt auf dem Schirm. Dort haben wir alle Arten von Lock-In-Effekten von halbwegs geschlossenen Kommunikationsplattformen bis hin zu Bindung der Daten an bestimmte Werkzeuge für Anzeige und Bearbeitung - oder eben schlicht den Umstand, daß alles auf zentralen Servern (im Falle von AutoDesk BIM360 denen von Amazon) läuft. Diese Wahrnehmung (Service = "Funktion", nicht Software) geht weiter bei Dingen wie Trello oder Github.
Vielleicht ist das ein domänenspezifisches Problem - aber auch dann fehlen mir wirklich Ideen, dem zu begegnen. Der einzige denkbare Ansatz, den ich dort hätte, wäre: $Jemand, der in diesen Dingen sensibilisiert ist, versucht, solch einen Dienst (der dann sicherlich auch Geld kosten wird) aufzubauen in einer Art und Weise, die mit FLOSS-Ansätzen irgendwie verträglich ist. Aber das sehe ich zurzeit überhaupt nicht. Ich sehe eben nur, daß das langfristig für FLOSS durchaus zu einem echten Problem werden kann...

Ich argumentiere schon auch gerne mit Kosten, aber nicht mit Kostenersparnis: Planbarkeit der Kosten ist mangels Vendor-Lockin bei freier Software viel eher gegeben als bei proprietären Lösungen. Ich denke jeder IT-Verantwortliche kennt aus eigener Erfahrung die Situation, dass eine Softwarelizenz plötzlich mal eben 50% teurer wird, nur "weil man es kann".

Der Kurs fängt tatsächlich von Null an, setzt aber natürlich ein gewisses Interesse an dem Thema voraus. Vermutlich wird ein kompletter Durchgang 8-16 Stunden dauern, je nachdem, wie viele Übungsaufgaben man mitmacht.
Die offizielle Veröffentlichung wird in den kommenden Monaten sein, allerdings gibt es mindestens eine Testphase. Wer daran Interesse hat, um Fehler zu finden und Feedback zu geben, darf sich sehr gerne bei mir melden. Würde mich freuen!

Das ist auf jeden Fall sehr interessant, weil es in eine Richtung geht, in der ich (sichtbare) Aktivitäten bislang vermisst habe. Ich schau mir das gern an, sobald es Dinge zu sehen gibt. Was muss ich tun? :)
