Ich sollte Ende April einen Vortrag und Session über die Nachhaltigkeit von Software halten, und die FSFE wurde zudem gebeten, Mitorganisatorin dieser Veranstaltung zu sein. Wegen Corona kann diese Veranstaltung leider nicht in real-life stattfinden, und jetzt bitten sie uns die Veranstaltung online zu machen.
Hat jemand von Euch gute Erfahrungen mit Freier Software für Anwendungszwecke rund um Konferenz & Vorträge? Ich habe den Namen https://bigbluebutton.org/ in den letzten Tagen oft gehört, und auch von der gnuHU wird es empfohlen [1], hat da jemand Erfahrung damit? Habt ihr vielleicht eine andere gute Lösung, die es vielen Benutzenden gleichzeitig erlaubt sich zu verbinden und einen Moderator, der spricht und Folien zeigt?
Am besten wäre es sogar wenn ihr auch gleich einen vertrauensvolen Dienstleister kennen würdet, die Veranstaltenden sind auch bereit Geld zu zahlen.

witzig, so dreht man sich im Kreis: Empfohlen haben wir es, weil es der FSFE-Wiki-Artikel empfiehlt: https://wiki.fsfe.org/Activities/FreeSoftware4RemoteWorking
https://bigbluebutton.org/commercial-support/ (auch im Wiki-Artikel verlinkt) listet ja einige Anbieter, bei denen man eine Instanz mieten kann (die Seite scheint aber grad down zu sein, wahrscheinlich ist der Andrang grad zu groß).
Meines Wissens wurde der entsprechende Abschnitt (in seiner ersten Form) von Ilu beigesteuert und es schien so als hätte Ilu damit auch daministrativ praktische Erfahrungen.

mal einen ganz anderen Aspekt zu dem Thema:
ich persönlich fühle mich mit Videokonferenzen überhaupt nicht wohl und bevorzuge Audio-Tools.
1. Letztlich ist auch das Internet eine Ressource, die zumindest derzeit nur begrenzt vorhanden ist. Es gibt ja schon Bandbreiten-Drosselung bei Diensten, die die ganze Bevölkerung betreffen (und die in Zeiten der Corona-Langeweile dringend zur Depressionsverhütung benötigt werden).
2. Streaming verbraucht erheblich Strom. Ich frage mich, ob wir diese Ressource mit Videos von irgendwelchen Köpfen vergeuden sollten. Das gilt natürlich nicht für den jeweiligen Speaker.
3. Videostreams haben auch Privatsphäre-Implikationen. Muß ich mich stundenlang filmen lassen und das irgendwohin übertragen, um an einer Konferenz teilzunehmen, wo ich vielleicht nur Zuhörer bin?
4. Die Videos der Teilnehmer wirken wegen der ungünstigen Kamerawinkel eigentlich immer ziemlich unvorteilhaft. In Zeiten von deep fakes möchte ich nicht wissen, was gelangweilte Teilnehmer damit so alles anstellen.
Plain old mumble ist für manche Besprechung vielleicht die bessere Alternative.

ein guter technischer Plan scheint zu sein, dass nur ein oder zwei Teilnehmende sprechen (nach Meldung oder Moderation). So sollen mehr Leute was sehen können. Zumindest erscheint mir das ein als guter Ansatz für gemeinsame Lernveranstaltungen.
Plain old mumble ist für manche Besprechung vielleicht die bessere Alternative.
Aus meiner Sicht bietet Audio ebenfalls Vorteile. Und Mumble wird da im Vergleich oft unterschätzt, gerade auf einigen GNU/Linux Arbeitsplätze kommt eine kompatible Version aus dem Repo, während die neuste 1.3.0 von September 2019 da oft noch nicht drin ist.
Die Möglichkeit des Sprechknopfes und der Feineinstellung des Mikrofons habe ich bei den Apps und browserbasierten WebRTC Lösungen noch nicht gesehen.

Danke für den Tipp! Muss ich auch ansehen.
Hier haben ein paar Leute sich das leicht auf eigene Tasten gesetzt, manche sogar auf einen handelsüblichen USB Fußschalter, hält die Hände frei. Das geht bei Mumble gut, weil es aus dem Spiele-Bereich kommt.

zur Zeit sind keine Lehrveranstaltungen, die Uni-Osnabrück plant jedoch mit BigBlueButton, siehe https://www.virtuos.uni-osnabrueck.de/digitale_lehre/videokonferenzen_und_we... die haben vielleicht schon Erfahrungen, vielleicht lohnt ein Austausch?
