auf dem letzten Treffen in Berlin hatte ich ein Projekt vorgestellt, für das ich die FSFE gerne als Parnterorganisation gewinnen würde.
Matthias bat mich darum, dies hier zu posten, wenn es "online" ist. Das Wiki ist hauptsächlich englisch. Der lange, einleitende Text ist leider bisher nur in deutsch verfügbar:

Ich würde mich freuen, wenn ihr euch das Projekt mal ansehen würdet und dann überlegt, ob die FSFE sich aktiv daran beteiligen will. Da es international sein soll, könnte die FSFE als europäische Organisation da sehr hilfreich sein. Da ich auf keiner englischen ML bin, würde ich mich freuen, wenn ihr die Info auch dort hin tragen würdet.

Ich habe die Projektbeschreibung mit großem Interesse gelesen, muss aber gestehen, dass ich dem Text trotz seiner Länge keine Information abgewinnen konnte. Alles, was dort steht, schreit nach Diaspora [1], doch Diaspora wird mit keiner Silbe erwähnt.
Soziale Netzwerke funktionieren, weil "alle" mitmachen. Wenn wir den proprietären Netzen eine freie Alternative entgegen setzen wollen, ist eine Zersplitterung ziemlich kontraproduktiv.
Klar sollte es auch für Diaspora ruhig viele Clients und Server geben. Doch beim Protokoll sollte man sich einigen, und das Rad nicht neu erfinden. Zumal das Netzwerk-Protokoll und insgesamt das Konzept hinter Diaspora wirklich nicht schlecht ist, soweit ich das beurteilen kann. Warum nicht darauf aufbauen, oder noch besser: daran mitwirken?

genau das ist die Idee: Nicht alles neu zu erfinden, nicht zu spalten, sondern zusammenzufinden. Wir suchen nach dem vielversprechendsten Projekt und für das machen wir eine große Kampagne. Offene Schnittstellen sind wichtig. Und ein einheitliches Protokoll wäre super. Diaspora ist auch schon in der Diskussion. schau dich noch mal im Wiki um. Da gibt es eine Seite, auf der genau darüber diskutiert wird, welches der bestehenden Dienste sich gut eignen würde.

Danke für den Hinweis. Das passt in der Tat gut zusammen. :-)
Allerdings hat der Netzpolitik-Artikel meiner Ansicht nach genau das gleiche Manko wie die Social-Swarm-Einleitung:
Zu viel Konjunktiv und zu viel Futur. Zu viel "man könnte/ sollte/müsste". Mir fehlt der Präsens und vorallem der Imperativ. Dieser findet sich jeweils erst am Ende des Artikels.
Doch im Kern klingen beide Artikel zunächst so, als wären freie soziale Netzwerke eine ganz neue, unausgereifte Idee, die gerade erst im Entstehen ist. Zwar wird dieser falsche Eindruck am Ende jeweils korrigiert, doch wozu das Missverständnis überhaupt aufkommen lassen?
Die Idee ist nicht neu, sondern alt. Zumindest für Internet- Maßstäbe. Die Konzepte müssen nicht ausgearbeitet werden, das haben die Leute längst getan. Die Protokolle müssen nicht definiert werden, das wurden sie schon. Sie sind sogar standardisiert und implementiert!
Die neuen Netzwerke sind da und funktionieren. Die Botschaft darf nicht lauten: "Man müsste anfangen, sie zu nutzen", sondern: "Sie _werden_ benutzt, von immer mehr Leuten. Macht mit! Helft uns!"
Aus dem Netzpolitik-Artikel:

Das "sollten wir auch tun" ?! Das _tun_ wir bereits! Das "Internet" hat längst "drum herum geroutet". Die Software ist da. Die Protokolle sind da. Die Infrastruktur ist da. Nutzt es! Verbessert es! ... Das muss die Botschaft sein.
Und dann der nächste Schritt, vom Motivator zum Vorbild. Schaut, die freien sozialen Netze sind längst da! Hier ein Link zu "Netzpolitik.org in OneSocialWeb", da ein Link zum Diaspora-Profil des Autors. ... Das alles fehlt komplett, was in den Kommentaren zu Recht bemängelt wird.
Ich hoffe, ihr nehmt diesen kleinen Rant nicht persönlich. Ich bin mir sicher, dass die Texte ganz gut geeignet sind, um einige Gedanken anregen. Aber der Anruf, den sie versuchen, geht komplett unter. Es wirkt so halbherzig. So Konjunktiv. Und ohne lebendiges Vorbild.

Vor kurzem habe ich auch einen eigenen Diaspora-Pod aufgesetzt. Das ging recht problemlos, das Wiki auf github [1] und IRC geben da einen guten Leitfaden. Ein in meinen Augen recht guter Artikel der Diaspora (und sicher damit auch andere vergleichbare Netze) beschreibt und mit der "Alternative" Google+ beschreibt gibts unter [2].

Auf [1] wurde als Maintainer leider nur "Noncommercial group of 3 persons" eingetragen. Aber man kann durchaus noch etwas mehr in Erfahrung bringen, z.B. über den dort genannten Twitter Account.

Jetzt, wo du es sagst, finde ich auch die Passagen, aus denen das hervor geht. Aber die Überschriften sowie die ersten Absätze des Textes klingen erstmal völlig anders. Was ich sehr schade finde.
Denn ich finde es großartig, dass ihr die freien sozialen Netzwerke unterstützen wollt. Und zwar genau an dem Punkt, wo sie alle noch ein großes Manko haben: zu kleine Nutzerschaft, zu wenig Beachtung in der Öffentlichkeit.
