IMHO fehlen auf der Seite v.a. Fakten, wie denn die Lage ist. Was heisst "Zugang zunehmend in der Hand von Monopolisten"?? Warum ist die Bedrohung so gross? Ausser einer wagen Ahnung ("nur ein paar Firmen verfügen über die wesentlichen Leitungen...") habe ich nämlich keine. Vielleicht ist das allen anderen ja glasklar...

wenn man über den Aspekt "Internet kann nur frei sein, wenn sein Zugang auch frei und vielfältig ist" nachdenkt, dann geht es um Monopolisierungstendenzen in Hard- und Software. Die größte Gefahr liegt dabei m.E. zur Zeit darin, daß mehr als 90% der Menschen den gleichen Vorleser (= Software nutzen) engagieren, um im "Internet-Buch" zu lesen.
Weiterer Punkt ist die Gefahr dadurch, daß wir unsere Daten immer mehr in Verpackungen (Datenformate) legen, zu deren Öffnung wir die Erlaubnis von irgendwelchen Softwareherstellern benötigen.
Vielleicht habe ich diese Punkte nicht klar genug formuliert. Ich werde versuchen, das in den nächsten Wochen zu verbessern. Ein Schritt dazu ist eine weitere Aktion, die ich gerade starte:

Allerdings gab es als Konsequenz sofort eine komplett isländisches GNU/Linux :-)
Das gleiche Problem werden wohl eine ganze Reihe von Staaten mit wenig Population und eigener Sprache haben. Alle diese müssen den Staatsangestellten eine festgelegte andere Sprache beibringen. Das ist ja eigentlich auch ganz nett, aber es fehlt eben die Freiheit des Staates als Kunde von MS als Option die eigene, offizielle Sprache zu verwenden.

Danke für diese Information. Man sollte sich überlegen, welche Pflichten für ein Unternehmen daraus erwachsen, daß es eine Monopolstellung besitzt. Wenn die Erfüllung solcher Pflichten nachdrücklich eingefordert würde, dann wird es für ein Unternehmen wahrscheinlich attraktiv, Vielfalt zu fördern und seine eigene Macht zu beschränken, damit es die dann unangenehme Monopolsituation vermeiden kann.
Aus dem faktischen Monopol auf Computersoftware könnte m.E. ähnliches abgeleitet werden, wie es z.B. bei der Deutschen Post üblich war / ist: Versorgungszwang auch für den letzten Almbewohner, Preiskontrolle, und vieles mehr.
Weiß jemand, welche Pflichten man z.B. der Telekom oder der Post auferlegt hatte, als die noch ein richtiges Monopol hatten?
