Liebe Freunde,
im vergangenen Jahr hatte ich Matze von FSFE Berlin und LinuxlehrerInnen in Australien, USA und Neuseeland angesprochen, weil ich gerne eine Art "Selbstläufer" für die Verbreitung von Freeware unter Nachbarn in der Welt sehen würde, so dass sich Freeware wie Tupperware von selbst bis ins kleinste Dorf unter Nachbarn verbreitet und diese lokal Hilfe untereinander finden und ihr Wissen zu diesem wichtigen Thema vermehren.
Matze fand das Thema auch interessant und schlug nun für den Bereich der Informationsverbreitung vor, eine Art Info CD/ DVD zu erstellen, auf dem dann das Material zu freier Software (Infos, Texte, Videos, Flyer-Druck-Vorlagen etc) zu finden sein könnte. Diese könnte man sich dann einfach aus dem Web runterladen, um sie zu brennen oder die Druckvorlagen im nächsten Copyshop auszudrucken und diese dann in der Nachbarschaft zu verteilen.
Namentlich könnte man das alles vielleicht so in Richtung
Freeware Nachbarschaftshilfe freeware next-door freeware4neighbours
etc bennen, aber sicher gäbe es auch noch andere Vorschläge. :)
Daraus könnte ein internationaler Prozess entstehen und es wäre gut, wenn man entsprechend Kooperationspartner gewinnen könnte, die sich mit um die Aktualisierung dieser DVD und den Aufbau der Freeware Nachbarschaftshilfe in ihren Ländern kümmern.
Diese "vor Ort" Nachbarschaftshilfe würde den Menschen neben den reinen Informationen die Möglichkeit geben, sich zu festen Terminen live über die Linux und Freeware Möglichkeiten zu informieren und von freundlichen "Profi-Nachbarn" beraten zu lassen.
Denn der letztliche Umstieg von Windows zu Linux hat zB sehr viel mit Hemmung zu tun. Zum Beispiel die Angst, dass System nicht zu beherschen, bei Fehlern aufgeschmissen zu sein, weil man noch keine Ahnung von der neuen Umgebung hat und niemanden kennt usw.
Die Menschen brauchen also neben der Nachbarschaftsinformation auch freundliche Linux und Freeware Profis in ihrer Nähe, zu denen sie an regelmässigen Veranstaltungsterminen gehen können. Diese sollten einen Überblick über die Linuxdistributionen haben, das System beherschen, ihnen weiterhelfen können und auch sonst in der Freeware-Szene wirklich drinnen stecken (und es natrlich einfach gerne tun :)
Als Beispiel für so einen Anlaufpunkt in Deutschland, würde ich zB die Newthinking Stores sehen. Ade und Tasso im Kreuzberger Store sind z.B. wirklich Klasse! So was brauchen wir in allen grossen Städten. Muss ja nicht ein eigener Laden sein, aber das Angebot, das zu einem festen Termin an einem festen Ort nette Profis innerhalb eines nationalen und/ oder internatinalen Programms sich um "mich, den Laien, den Nachbarn, der keine Ahnung gross von Freeware und Linux hat" kümmern, ihn nicht im Regen stehen lassen - und natürlich auch nicht ausnehmen, wie eine Weihnachtsgans. :o) Denn die Verbreitung von Freeware unter Nachbarn sollte dann auch unkommerziell sein, ansonsten hätte es ja keinen Sinn.
Mit solch einer Art Freeware Nachbarschaftshilfe könnte sich Freeware und Linux dann wie Tupperware unter Freunden und Nachbarn verbreiten, über den heutigen Kreis der Freaks und Geeks hinaus. Entsprechende breite Öffentlichkeitsarbeit zu dem Programm inklusive ;)
Wenn ihr auch denkt, dass wir Freeware national wie international einfach innerhalb einer Art Nachbarschaftshilfe verbreiten sollten, um alle Menschen zu erreichen, wobei dadurch ja auch wiederum neue positive soziale Kontakte unter den Menschen entstehen, dann würde ich mich darüber sehr freuen.
Ich z.B. würde gerne in meiner Umgebung massig dazu beitragen, dass die Leute hier (natürlich alles keine Geeks) breit zur Freeware finden :) Ich habe zwar sehr viel zu tun, aber mal einen Tag frei zu halten und einfach nur Infomaterial zu solch einem Programm in meiner Nachbarschaft zu verteilen (inkl. der Möglichkeit für sie live Linux und Freeware kennenzulernen), dass würde ich wirklich liebend gerne tun.
Da steckt sehr viel Potential drin... denn die breite Gesellschaft, das sind unsere vielen Nachbarn.
Wenn Ihr Lust habt, lasst uns daher gemeinsam solch ein nationales oder internationales Freeware-OS-Nachbarschafts-Hilfe-Programm aufsetzen und freie Software bis in die kleinsten Dörfer verbreiten. :-)
Ich würde da auf jeden Fall gerne mithelfen.

Grundsätzlich klingt die Idee gut. Nur sollte Freie Software bitte nicht mit Freeware in einen Topf geworfen werden.
Mit dem Begriff Freeware wird zumeist kostenlose unfreie Software bezeichnet. Also Software, die meist nur in binärer Form kommt. Bei der man nicht die Freiheit hat, die Software untersuchen oder gar anpassen zu können.

Kein Problem Andreas. Lerne ja gerne dazu. :) Was die Begrifflichkeiten angeht, muss man wohl im Softwarebereich sehr genau sein, wie ich vorhin in der Wikipedia gelesen habe. Tut mir leid. Ja, daran habe ich auch schon gedacht. Vielleicht könnte man sie gewinnen und in einen solchen Nachbarschaftshilfe-Prozess einbinden. Das wäre toll. Aber es muss eben auch noch über das Linux System hinausgehen... Linux ist sehr wichtig, aber es gibt natürlich noch ganz viel andere freie Software.
Wahrscheinlich müsste man vorher das Angebot der freien Software analysieren, um dann Empfhelungen aussprechen zu können: das ist gerade am weitesten entwickelt, das entwickelt sich weiter, ist aber noch nicht so reif... denn die breite Gesellschaft, unsere Nachbarn, dass sind keine Techniker, keine Geeks... sie können nicht mal eben die Kommandozeile bedienen und Fehler regulieren die auftreten. Das würde die meisten Menschen überfordern (nicht das sie es generell nicht könnten, aber sie müssten erst viele Monate das System lernen und dazu werden nur wenige wirklich die Zeit haben bei einem 40 Stunden Job und Familie). Sie können also Fehler nur unter Anleitung beheben und in ganz kleinen Schritten dazulernen.
Gilt ürigens auch für mich. Mein Notebook ist mein wichtigstes Werkzeug, aber ich hätte schlicht keine Zeit, tiefere Fehler alleine zu regulieren.
Die breite Gesellschaft... unsere Nachbarn... das ist eben neben dem grossen Potential auch eine sehr grosse Herausforderung und hat viel mit Verständnis und Solidarität zu tun. Verständnis, dass sie z.B. keine Geeks sind... sie können nur in kleinen Schritten lernen und sich gegenseitig helfen.
Die Systeme müssen da laufen und wenn Fehler auftreten, muss jemand da sein, der ihnen in der Nachbarschaft hilft - ohne das er gleich zur Kasse gebeten wird oder zig Kilometer fahren muss. Denn wenn ich zur Kasse gebeten werde, weil mir Freie Software Probleme macht, bleibe ich einfach bei den anderen Sachen.
Hier die Originalworte eines Freundes von mir (vor zwei Stunden per Email eingetroffen), der wirklich sehr intelligent ist und sich sehr für usability und sauberen Webseiten-Code engagiert:

Wie gesagt... ER ist kein normaler Nachbar... er schreibt super sauberen Webcode, ist also gewisser Hinsicht im Internet sehr versiert... - und doch macht er gerade diese Erfahrung. (Und er wird z.B. auch nicht so einfach zu einer Linux User Group gehen... Nachbarschaftshilfe ist noch mal was anderes. Nachbarschaftshilfe ist hier, wo ich bin und mit den Leuten, mit denen ich hier lebe.)
Und wie ist es da erst bei unseren Nachbarn, die nicht mal wissen, wie man eine kleine einfache html Seite schreibt oder "in Windows ein Laufwerk formatiert"?
Das ist die breite Gesellschaft... und genau sie sind die Herausforderung. Wenn wir wirklich wollen, dass freie Software auf jedem Desktop läuft und sich so die humane Philosophie dahinter verbreitet, müssen wir zu ihnen kommen und ihnen helfen.
Ich verstehe z.B. das viele von Euch gerne über freie Software sprechen. Und ich spreche auch gerne darüber. Aber ein Nachbar würde mir eher sagen: "Das hört sich alles ganz toll an Ingmar, die Philosophie, wirklich schön... aber nun zeig mir bitte, wie es läuft, ohne das ES mir Probleme macht!" :) Das ist die Realität.
Deswegen ist es so wichtig, nicht nur Informationen über freie Software zu verbreiten (das wird nämlich fast jeder gerne privat unterschreiben, wenn er die dahinter liegenden humanen Prinzipien verstanden hat), sondern eine sich selbst verbreitende Infrastruktur zu schaffen, um den Menschen wirlich auch vor Ort Hilfe zukommen zu lassen, damit sie freie Software nutzen können und das sie sich Schritt für Schritt auch selbst helfen können.
Natürlich können wir das nicht alleine aufbauen. Zu aller erst müssten wir uns umschauen, wer in diesem Bereich überall engagiert ist und für diese Idee Symphatien gewinnen - und daraus dann ein Startnetz weben.
Wie viele von der Linux User Group stehen z.B. wirklich hinter der freien Software, kennen sich wirklich auch allgemein in der freien Software gut aus und haben dann auch noch den sozialen Funken in sich, den Menschen innerhalb einer Nachbarschafthilfe zu helfen? Das müsste man herausfinden und die Menschen und Organisationen, die es gerne tun würden, miteinander für ein Startnetz verbinden.
Durch das Internet und die vielen persönlichen Kontakte ist es ja möglich, so etwas heute in nur wenigen Monaten weltweit in Gang zu bringen... habe das schon einige Male hinter mir. Es ist wirklich wundervoll, dass wir in dieser besorgnis erregenden, aber doch gleichzeitig durch das Internet so genialen Welt der riesigen Möglichkeiten leben, in denen man globale humane Prozesse in nur wenigen Monaten anschieben kann.
Von daher sage ich nur: es liegt an uns. Ideen können sich heute in Windeseile verbreiten... wenn ihr denkt: "ja, lasst es uns angehen", werden wir überall auf der Welt Menschen erreichen. Gute Ideen verbreiten sich expotential. Es beginnt ganz klein und winzig und wenn die Idee gut und ihre Zeit gekommen ist, wird sie sehr gross. Ich unterstütze viele sehr gute Ideen. Manche offen, manche im Hintergund. Man muss es nur richtig kommunizieren und die soziale Ader der Menschen ansprechen. Die Menschen sehnen sich heute nach praktischer und innovativer Humanität und Sinn im Leben, gerade dort, wo sie leben. Und anderen Menschen zu helfen vor Ort, dass ist Sinn hoch drei.
Würde natürlich einigen Leuten nicht so gefallen, wenn wir so eine aktive Freie Software Nachbarschaftshilfe und Informationsverbreitung international umsetzen würden... aber so ist das bei humanen Angelegenheiten ja immer... ;)

Auf der einen Seite kann Freie Software für unfreie Systeme den Übergang zu freien Systemen sehr erleichtern. Auf der anderen Seite kann es den Umstieg aber auch verzögern oder gar verhindern. Ich kenne viele, die der Meinung sind, dass sich ein Umstieg nicht für sie lohnt, weil es all die GNU/Linux-Software ja auch für Windows gibt... :-(
Vor einiger Zeit gab es Werbung für das System Windows, die besagte "jede Menge Software, jede Menge Geräte". Nun, diesem Argument kann man wenig entgegensetzen. Wenn fast alle Software, die für GNU/Linux entwickelt wird auch nach Windows portiert wird, wird Windows hierin IMMER einen Vorsprung haben.
Persönliche Anmerkung: Diesen Zwiespalt habe ich in meinem Projekt AKFQuiz http://akfquiz.nongnu.org/ dadurch aufzulösen versucht, indem ich in der Windows Variante den Hinweis "Das original AKFQuiz ist für GNU/Linux erhältlich" eingefügt habe, um so für GNU/Linux Werbung zu machen. Außerdem steht in der Windows Version nicht alles zur Verfügung.
Übrigens ist es wesentlich schwieriger ein Windows-Programm nach GNU/Linux zu portieren als umgekehrt. - Also auch, wenn man den Quellcode hat. Wenn man den nicht hat, ist es sogar unmöglich.

Nun, ich denke, dass gerade Ubuntu sogar wesentlich leichter zu installieren ist als Windows.
Dass es bei der Installation zu Problemen kommen kann, die weder mit dem System noch mit der Intelligenz des Anwenders zu tun haben, ist ein anderes Thema. Aber wie gesagt, das kann bei ALLEN Systemen passieren. Auch ich scheitere öfter an solchen Banalien, wie zum Beispiel, dass meine selbstgebrannten CD-Rs auf anderen Rechnern oft nicht richtig gelesen werden können - da bin ich dann auch hoffnungslos aufgeschmissen... :-( Aber das hat nichts mit dem System zu tun.
Ein weiteres Hindernis dieser Art ist das Thema Gerätetreiber. Hier wird aber häufig die Schuld auf der falschen Seite gesucht. Es ist nicht die Schuld von GNU/Linux, dass Hardware-Hersteller nur Treiber für Windows zur Verfügung stellen, ansonsten aber ihre Spezifikationen geheim halten, so dass kein anderer Treiber dafür schreiben kann. Tatsächlich ist es sogar so, dass GNU/Linux "von Haus aus" sogar wesentlich mehr Hardware unterstützt, als Windows. Nur mit Treibern der Hardware-Hersteller sieht es halt anders aus.

Da hattest du mich ein bisschen Missverstanden :) Ich meine vor allem all die viele freie Software, die für GNU/Linux erhältlich ist. Hier muss man ja auch erstmal in der Tiefe durchblicken, um Nachbarn helfen zu können...

Verstehe ich... doch das Problem ist und bleibt der humane Anspruch. Wollen wir kollektiv als Wletzivilgesellschaft unabhängig werden oder nicht? Das ist ja nicht nur für die Entwicklungsländer entscheidend, sondern auch für uns alle. Und es kann natürlich keine freie digitale Welt mit Wissens-Ketten und hochpreisigen Zwangsupdates geben. Das geht einfach nicht. Was wäre das denn für eine freie humane digitale Welt? Also entweder bleiben wir bis zum St. Nimmerleinstag globalen Einzelinteressen verpflichtet, von der Wiege bis zur Bare, oder nicht.
Und das verstehen die Menschen auch. Doch dann muss man natürlich dafür dafür zu sorgen, dass sie ein freies Softwaresystem nutzen können, was wirklich funktioniert. Ansonsten können sie natürlich auch nicht umsteigen.

Ein weiteres Hindernis dieser Art ist das Thema Gerätetreiber. Hier wird aber häufig die Schuld auf der falschen Seite gesucht. Es ist nicht die Schuld von GNU/Linux, dass Hardware-Hersteller nur Treiber für Windows zur Verfügung stellen, ansonsten aber ihre Spezifikationen geheim halten, so dass kein anderer Treiber dafür schreiben kann. Tatsächlich ist es sogar so, dass GNU/Linux "von Haus aus" sogar wesentlich mehr Hardware unterstützt, als Windows. Nur mit Treibern der Hardware-Hersteller sieht es halt anders aus.
OK. Dann muss man eben für klare Unterscheidungen sorgen :) Dann möchte ich als Verbraucher ganz deutlich wissen, welche Hersteller Linux mit Treibern supporten und welche nicht.
Hersteller, die Linux nicht als Betriebssystem anerkennen, kommen dann eben nicht mehr in meine Tüte. So einfach ist das.
Das muss man eben auch genau wissen, wenn man Nachbarn helfen will... "aha, du hast diesen drucker und diesen scanner etc. ich schaue mal in die aktuelle schlaue tabelle - hierfür gibt es Unterstützung und hierfür nicht. hier müssten wir also ein teil austauschen, weil der Hersteller sich völlig gegen Linux abblockt. den kaufst du dann in zukunft bitte nicht mehr."
und letztlich muss man dann auch öffentlich den druck verstärken auf die hersteller, die Linux nicht als Betriebssystem anerkennen und klare Aussagen einfordern. Auch mit einer klaren Abfuhr kann man gut leben. Das ist dann ihre Sachen, wenn sie nicht mehr in meinem Wahrenkorb landen wollen. Wie gesagt: da müsste man ganz klare Aussagen provozieren, nichts schwammiges. Und wenn es doch schwammig sein sollte, jeden Monat nachhaken, ohne unterlass, bis klar ist: dann und dann gibt es Treiber oder eben nicht. Am besten mit ein paar tausend Emails jeden Monat, regelmässig an den CEO, CTO usw.
Steter Tropfen hölt den Stein. - Vielleicht war es die letzten 5 Jahre nicht bei ihnen erfolgreich, aber das heisst noch lange nicht, dass es in 3 Jahren noch immer so aussieht. :) Oft brauchen humane Anliegen länger bis die kleinen warmen Tropfen den kalten harten Stein erweichen. Aber irgendwann hat auch der härteste Stein ein kleines Loch - und dann geht es plötzlich meist ganz schnell... ;)

ps zu "öffentliche forderung treiber für linux einforderung"... da hätte ich gleich mal eine frage: gibt es da eine internationale kampagne und wie ist da der stand der dinge? denn wenn ich dich richtig verstanden habe andreas, scheint mir das ja ein ganz zentraler punkt zu sein, hier einen wandel zu erreichen.

Ein weiteres Hindernis dieser Art ist das Thema Gerätetreiber. Hier wird aber häufig die Schuld auf der falschen Seite gesucht. Es ist nicht die Schuld von GNU/Linux, dass Hardware-Hersteller nur Treiber für Windows zur Verfügung stellen, ansonsten aber ihre Spezifikationen geheim halten, so dass kein anderer Treiber dafür schreiben kann. Tatsächlich ist es sogar so, dass GNU/Linux "von Haus aus" sogar wesentlich mehr Hardware unterstützt, als Windows. Nur mit Treibern der Hardware-Hersteller sieht es halt anders aus.
OK. Dann muss man eben für klare Unterscheidungen sorgen :) Dann möchte ich als Verbraucher ganz deutlich wissen, welche Hersteller Linux mit Treibern supporten und welche nicht.

Nicht, dass er einen Laptop hätte, er will nur keine Kabel quer durch die Wohnung verlegen. Gerade Wireless-Karten sind zur Zeit die Problemfälle bei der Hardware-Unterstützung. Er ist der Meinung, dass der Anbieter GNU/Linux "unterstützt". Nun, worin besteht die Unterstützung? Es gibt einen "Treiber", aber nur im Binärformat. Damit der geladen werden kann, gibt es wiederum einen Kernel-Patch, den man in den Kernel einkompilieren muss und der dann den binären Treiber lädt. Um es nochmal deutlich zu sagen: man muss dafür den Kernel patchen und neu kompilieren! Dieser Patch funktioniert auch wieder nur mit bestimmten Versionen des Kernels, und macht bei neueren auch wieder Probleme... Mal abgesehen von der Tatsache, dass er hinterher auch wieder kein vollkommen freies System hat.
Leider kann ich dem das nicht ausreden. Aber ich gebe zu, dass ich mir damit jetzt bewusst Zeit lasse. - Er hat ja nicht die Arbeit, aber er soll wenigstens mitkriegen, DASS das eine ziemliche Sauerei ist.
In einem solchen Falle wäre mir ehrlich gesagt überhaupt keine Unterstützung sogar lieber, als diese Pseudo-Unterstützung.
Hersteller, die Linux nicht als Betriebssystem anerkennen, kommen dann eben nicht mehr in meine Tüte. So einfach ist das.

"In Zukunft bitte nicht mehr" ist gut. ;-) Wenn man das Gerät einmal hat, ist das Kind ja bereits in den Brunnen gefallen.
(Bei Druckern betrifft das übrigens die sogenannten GDI-Drucker)
und letztlich muss man dann auch öffentlich den druck verstärken auf die hersteller, die Linux nicht als Betriebssystem anerkennen und klare Aussagen einfordern. Auch mit einer klaren Abfuhr kann man gut leben. Das ist dann ihre Sachen, wenn sie nicht mehr in meinem Wahrenkorb landen wollen. Wie gesagt: da müsste man ganz klare Aussagen provozieren, nichts schwammiges. Und wenn es doch schwammig sein sollte, jeden Monat nachhaken, ohne unterlass, bis klar ist: dann und dann gibt es Treiber oder eben nicht. Am besten mit ein paar tausend Emails jeden Monat, regelmässig an den CEO, CTO usw.
Steter Tropfen hölt den Stein. - Vielleicht war es die letzten 5 Jahre nicht bei ihnen erfolgreich, aber das heisst noch lange nicht, dass es in 3 Jahren noch immer so aussieht. :) Oft brauchen humane Anliegen länger bis die kleinen warmen Tropfen den kalten harten Stein erweichen. Aber irgendwann hat auch der härteste Stein ein kleines Loch - und dann geht es plötzlich meist ganz schnell... ;)

Es gab da schon etliche Ansätze.

Dies ging mehr von der OpenBSD Seite aus. Da kam es auch zu Unstimmigkeiten, da die FSF sich nicht an Mailbomben-Aktionen und ähnlichem beteiligen wollte.
Inzwischen ist man aber eher dazu übergegangen Angebote zu machen. Die Linux Kernel-Entwickler haben vor kurzem ein Angebot an die Hardware-Industrie gemacht, dass sie gerne kostenlos für sie Treiber entwickeln, wenn sie nur die Spezifikationen bekommen. Das wurde zwar schon immer so gehandhabt, aber es wurde in der Vergangenheit wohl noch nicht deutlich genug vermittelt:

Ich habe immer die Erfahrung gemacht, dass es schwierig ist, einzelne Menschen von guten Dingen zu überzeugen. Man muss das irgendwie immer in einem grösseren humanen Masstab angehen... da habe ich seltsamer Weise noch nie eine andere Erfahrung gemacht. Muss irgendwas mit der Psychologie des Menschen zu tun haben...
Im Rahmen einer netten und populären Nachbarschaftshilfe könnte ich sogar meine Oma von freier Software überzeugen... :)

Aha... hm... was sind da so die Unterschiede? Bei Windows ist es ja so, dass ich zwar ein paar andere Windowsprogramme mit drauf habe, aber mir allgemeinschon selbst suche, was ich möchte. Zum Beispiel ein Programm zum Downloaden, ein Virenprogramm, Dateinschredder, Videoplayer, Verschlüsseler, Grafikprogramm, Videoschnitt usw. ...
Das suche ich mir da ja selbst aus. Da google ich und lese Bewertungen der User in Downloadportalen oder in der Fachpresse, bis ich das allgemein best bewerteste Programm gefunden habe. Und wenn ich dann auch noch selbst dait zufrieden bin, dann ist das erstemal für längere Zeit abgehakt. Dann mache ich höchsten noch Updates und das wars... also so läuft das ja für Windows.

Aha... hm, also da würde ich persönlich immer den Weg des geringsten Widerstandes gehen und innerhalb einer Nachbarschaftshilfe natürlich durch die beschränkten zeitlichen Ressourcen auch schauen: wer einen Weg möchte, der - aktuell - noch zu speziell und zu sehr mit Problemen behaftet ist, dem kann ich erstmal im Moment nicht helfen. Da müsste man dann noch etwas warten, bis sich die Lage am Wireless-Treiberhimmer z.B. verbessert.
Denn die Energie die ich aufwenden würde, um in einem Fall die von der Industrie verursachten Probleme zu lösen, könnte ich vielleicht 3 anderen Menschen ein freies System helfen aufzubauen ohne Wireless-Probleme.
Also da müsste man glaube ich auch sehr auf seine Energien aufpassen, dass diese nicht einfach so verpuffen... wenn es noch nicht komplikationslos geht, ok, dann wartet man eben noch ein bisschen.

Leider... aber da möchte ich mich ehrlich gesagt auch garnicht einmischen. :) Und Menschen haben natürlich immer unterschiedliche Meinungen. Das muss ich auch nicht wirklich wissen, wenn ich in meiner Nachbarschaft freie Software weiterverbreiten und empfhelen möchte. :) Was ich sagen möchte: ich unterstütze und unterstütze freie Software, aber ich möchte deswegen niemals in einem Lagerstreit oder so sein. So etwas gefällt mir nämlich nicht... und ich glaube auch nicht, dass z.B. meine Nachbarn dazu musse hätten. Denn dann ginge ja der ganze humane Anreiz verloren...
Jeder macht es so, wie er es möchte. Wenn Linus es anders mag, so ist das seine Meinung und die ist ok. Die kann ihm niemand verweigern oder wegnehmen. Jeder muss letztlich für sich allein entscheiden, was er in der Welt möchte... aber deswegen muss man noch lange zu Feinden werden oder Streits vom Zaun brechen. Es gibt halt unterschiedliche Definitionsvorstellungen zu Open Source und Freier Software, gut. Aber deswegen muss ich Linus oder Richard als Menschen ja noch lange nicht hassen oder nicht mögen ;)
Letztlich zählt unter dem Strich sowieso nur, was wir in der Welt an humanen Spuren im Kleinen wie im Grossen hinterlassen haben. Spätestens in 100 Jahren kümmert sich kein Mensch mehr darum...

Was sind GDI Drucker? :)
Und was das Brunnenkind angeht: entweder man kanns dann bei Ebay verkaufen und was kompatibles nehmen oder nicht. Wenn es nicht geht, dann wie oben: Energie effizient einsetzen und diese Baustelle erstmal ruhen lassen und erst wieder anfangen, wenn a) man die Geräte austauschen kann oder b) es irgendwann eine Treiberunterstützung gibt.
Wenn es nicht geht, dann ist das zwar schade, aber dann geht es eben nicht...

Ich meine zentral in Bezug auf eine Nachbarschaftshilfe. :) Ich kann anderen Menschen nur helfen, wenn es freie Treiber für ihre Geräte gibt. Von daher in diesem Rahmen schon sehr zentral. Ohne freie Treiber, kein freies System, welches sie für sich nutzen könnten...
Von daher möchte ich diese Treiber-Initiative auch sehr gerne unterstützen, sobald ich eine Möglichkeit dafür sehe. :)

Gefällt mir bislang sehr gut und gibt mir endlich auch mal einen tieferen Kurzeinblick in die Open Source und Free Software Welt.
Ganz besonders haben mir die Zeilen zu Bruce Perens gefallen auf Seite 9 des pdf Files vom 4. Kapitel. Dort heisst es:
"" Der Autor der Open Source Definitions und OSI Mitbegründer, Bruce Perens wechselte nach (...) einem Jahr zufrieden die Lager. Die OSI habe ihre Aufgabe, der NichtHackerInnen-Welt die Freie Software nahezubringen, erfüllt: "Und jetzt ist es Zeit für die zweite Phase: Jetzt, wo alle Welt zusieht, ist es für uns an der Zeit, Sie über Freie Software aufzuklären. Beachten Sie, ich sagte Freie Software und nicht etwa Open Source." ""
In dieser Form würde ich sogar den damaligen Zweck der OS Bewegung verstehen - solange das letztliche Ziel, wieder bei freier Software anzukommen, also da wo es begonnen hat, auch das letztliche Ziel bleibt.
Wie gesagt, ich kenne mich in den ganzen Internas nicht aus und glaube, will es auch garnicht, aber diese Wortwahl von Bruce gefällt irgendwie ganz gut! :) Hoffe er ist von seinem Pfad nicht wieder abgekommen? ;)

Er versucht jetzt, die beiden Lager wieder zu vereinen, indem er doch wieder den Begriff "Open Source" verwendet, aber gleichzeitig betont, dass er damit das selbe meint wie Richard Stallman mit dem Begriff "Freie Software".

Ich würde das an deiner Stelle auch nicht (mehr) so machen. Die Grundinstallation ist ja im Prinzip das Schwierigste (wenn es hakt oder der Vorgang der Partitionierung unklar ist, etc.), die macht man am besten zusammen und mit einem System, welches man in- und auswendig kennt. Der Rest ist doch mittlerweile bei keiner Distribution mehr schwierig (außer deine "Distribution" hieße Linux From Scratch). Ich denke, es ist glaubwürdiger und verursacht weniger Probleme, dem Anderen das System zu installieren, was man selbst benutzt anstatt eine angeblich für Einsteiger geeignete Distribution zu verwenden.

Da kann ich dir nur vollständig zustimmen. Auch der Laie sollte so weit als möglich alleine arbeiten, sich zurecht finden können. Software und Technik ist heute noch viel zu kompliziert. Heute kommt dazu übrigens auch eine Sendung 24 Uhr, ich glaube in der ARD:

Wir brauchen bedienbare und verständliche Geräte für jedermann. Es sind Werkzeuge. Wer sich tiefer mit dem Werkzeug selbst auseinander setzten möchte, kann und soll das gerne tun. Aber ich, als einfacher Endverbraucher, brauche ein Werkzeug. Und das Werkzeug darf nicht mich dominieren (wie heute zB oft die PC Desktops usw) und mich von meinem eigentlichen Ziel, wozu ich das Werkzeug brauche, ablenken, sondern es muss mir dienen, mich dort abholen, wo ich stehe. Und im Idealfall heisst das: intuitive, semantische Bedienung.
Es muss einfach flutschen. Ein Mensch, der noch nie mit einem Pc etwas zu hatte, muss letztlich in wenigen Stunden die Grundprinzipien der Software verstanden haben und selbstständig arbeiten können. Das wäre das Optimum. Wer dann tiefer einsteigen möchte in den Hintergrund, wie das alles funktioniert oder wer technisch begabt ist, der kann das ja gerne tun. Aber im Mittelpunkt steht immer der Mensch, nicht die Maschiene. Und das bedeutet:
das Werkzeug, die Maschiene muss über die Software auch von einem Laien intuitiv lernend recht fix zu bedienen sein. Ich muss einem Kind in Afrika oder einem alten Menschen ein PC geben können und mit ein paar Worten erklären können: hier machst du das, hier das und da das - und dann erforscht es einfach intuitiv auf der graphischen Oberfläche. Mit den heutigen Desktops wie Windows mit seinen 100 Fenstern, Symbolen und Untermenüs undenkar.
Man muss die Menschen dort abholen, wo sie sind. Das ist wie bei den Wissenschaftlern: die einen benutzen hochtrabende Fachbegriffe und keiner versteht sie in ihren Elfenbeitürmen und die anderen machen sich die Mühe, es allgemein verständlich auszudrücken und die Menschen verstehen sie...
Und ich möchte mich eben dafür einsetzen, dass freie Software auch von Laien in kurzer Zeit intuitiv nutzbar wird: installieren, eine Einführung, damit arbeiten, intuitv lernen - und keine weiteren Probleme. Das ist die Herausforderung die ich sehe, dafür engagiere ich mich, denn das ist auch die Grundlage für eine Massenverbreitung von freien Softwaresystemen. Es muss einfach sein und intuitiv. Und wer wirklich tiefer einsteigen möchte, wer bis auf die Kommandozeile vordingen möchte, der steigt eben tiefer ein, holt sich z.B. eine andere Distribution oder schaltet die grafische Oberfläche ab etc. - aber das darf man nicht dem Laien aufdrängen, der einfach nur ein Werkzeug möchte zum arbeiten.
Mein Notebook ist für mich z.B. wirklich mein Werkzeug. Ich möchte da garnicht tiefer einsteigen, weil ich für mich viel wichtigeres zu tun habe, als mich mit dem Werkzeug, was mir doch eigentlich helfen, meine Arbeit vereinfachen soll, rumzuplagen... ok, ich kenne mich z.B. bei Windows "ganz gut aus", aber auch nur aus der Not heraus, weil es einfach nichts besseres gab. Und eigentlich möchte ich bei freier Software nicht wieder genauso anfangen, weil das dann einfach nicht Laien- und somit Massenkompatibel ist.

Ich stimme zu, die Frage ist, wie da Ziel erreichbar wird. Gute Benutzbarkeit und Qualität ist wirklich aufwendig. Meiner Überzeugung nach müssen wir uns also fragen, wo die Finanzierung dafür herkommt. Ja, ohne Profis kommen wir in dem Bereich auch bei der Freie Software nicht aus.

Das im 1/3 behandelte Thema habe ich schon häufiger bei den Auszubildenden in unserem Betrieb angesprochen. Dort sehe ich ähnliche Probleme und versuche zu betonen, dass es nicht unbedingt wichtig ist, eine bestimmte Software zu beherrschen, sondern eher die Grundlagen, auf der die Software aufbaut. Gerade für Auszubildende in der Informatik halte ich das für essentiell.

Dort sehe ich ähnliche Probleme und versuche zu betonen, dass es nicht unbedingt wichtig ist, eine bestimmte Software zu beherrschen, sondern eher die Grundlagen, auf der die Software aufbaut. Gerade für Auszubildende in der Informatik halte ich das für essentiell.
Meiner These nach kann ich Konzept von konkreten Umsetzung nur unterscheiden, wenn ich zwei Umsetzungen praktisch erfahren habe. Das bedeutet: Wer objektorientiertes Programmieren verstehen will und nicht einfach nur Java, der muss mindestens eine zweite objekt-orientierte Sprache lernen. Ähnliches gilt für Programmieren, Tabellenkalkluationen, Textsatz, Oberflächen, Webbetracher, Email-Programme und so weiter.
Freie Software ist hier enorm wichtig, weil es weitere Wahlmöglichkeiten anbietet. Das müssen wir erhalten. Eventuell ist es sogar sinnvoll, Lernenden mal proprietäre Betriebssystem zu zeigen, zum Vergleich und Verstehen, weil es einfach sehr, sehr wichtig ist.

Was meinst Du mit "Wahlmöglichkeiten"? Beziehst Du das auf die Artenvielfalt oder auf die Freiheiten. Ich denke die Kombination aus beidem ist es, was Freie Software für Lernende ausmacht. Ich meine, dass wir Artenvielfalt in gewisser Weise auch bei proprietärer Software haben - vielleicht nicht ganz so ausgeprägt. Bei Freier Software hat der Lernende jedoch eine günstigere Ausgangslage, da die Freiheiten ihm erlauben wesentlich tiefer in die Materie einzusteigen als bei proprietären Produkten.

Denn das Problem ist bei humanen Anliegen...
(ich nutze das Wort "human" oft, weil sicher verständlich ist, was ich mit human meine - ansonsten könnte ich sehr tief in die Definition von Mitmenschlichkeit und Humanität einsteigen, wobei human = menschlich, eigentlich gut und schlecht sein kann; ich meine aber eigentlich immer die positiven Auswüchse der Menschhlichkeit)
... immer die Finanzierung. Es braucht Menschen, die an etwas gutem arbeiten, sich dafür engagieren und sich damit auch auskennen. Diese Menschen müssen aber auch etwas zu Essen und ein Dach über dem Kopf haben!
Und so ist es überall und entsprechend wenig fachlich qualifizierte Menschen gibt es, die ehrenamtlich arbeiten. Sind ganz, ganz rar. Ein Beispiel z.B.: Sprachen, Übersetungen. Aber dazu komme ich noch.
Zu der Finanzierung möchte ich daher zwei Ideen einbringen und wenn du daran interessiert bist, könnten wir das zusammen mit dem o.g. Ziel der Benutzbarkeit und Qualität von freier Software und der FSFE verbinden und nach tieferen Gedanken umsetzen.
Meiner Überzeugung nach ist das Konzept der ehrenamtlichen Arbeit, wie es heute meist verstanden wird, nicht rund. Warum? Weil nicht nachhaltig.
Ich habe die Erfahrung gemacht, dass sehr viele Menschen gerne helfen möchten, doch die wirklich kostenlose Arbeit einfach nicht der richtige Weg ist, weil es etwas von "ausbluten" hat. Wenn man aus einem Topf immer weiter Wasser abschöpft, bleibt irgendwann nichts mehr übrig. Und um so schneller man es tut, um so schneller wird auch das ehrenamtliche burn out folgen.
Meiner These nach ist es generell besser, immer wieder etwas Wasser in den Top zu geben, so dass nie ein ehrenamtliches burn out entsteht und Menschen langfristig dazu befähigt werden, gutes zu tun.
Wenn jemand einen Stundensatz von 30 Euro hat und bereit ist, einen Teil seiner Arbeitszeit (z.B. eine Stunde am Tag) halbehrenamtlich für eine gute Sache zu wirken, beispielsweise mit einem Stundensatz von 7 bis 10 Euro, dann ist das schon grandios!
Das wäre ein Rabatt von 66% und mehr, gegenüber dem Marktpreis, welcher für Unternehmen, Verwaltung etc. ist und den sich humane Projekte niemals leisten können, es sei denn sie schwimmen in Millionen von Spendengeldern.
Da ich diesen Ansatz auch im Sprachenbereich mit einer int. Organisation umsetzen werde, würde ich gerne mit dir den gleichen Ansatz für unsere Anliegen umsetzen wollen. Das wäre dann so eine Art "Informatiker ohne Grenzen" für die Bedienbarkeit und Qualität von freien Softwaresystemen - könnte natürlich unter der FSFE laufen, da es ja dafür nicht extra eine neue Organisation braucht.
Dann gibts eine konkrete Zieldefinition und man geht weltweit auf die Suche nach Informatikern, die halbehrenamtlich für dieses Ziel mit einem reduzierten Stundenlohn wirken würden, z.B. eine Stunde am Tag oder 1 Stunde alle zwei Tage etc. Es wird sicher auch einige ganz junge Informatiker geben, die dafür den ganzen Tag arbeiten würden. Ok. Jeder wie er kann und mag, aber dann ist es eben kein ausbluten mehr, sondern nachhaltig.
Damit hätten wir die eigentlichen Kosten bereits um 50 bis 66 % reduziert und Informatikern die Möglichkeit gegeben, sich dauerhaft zu engagieren!
Die restlichen 33 % müssten weltweit über Stiftungen, staatliche Stellen und Kleinstspenden aquiriert werden. Und wenn man den Leuten zeigt, was man da erreichen will, nämlich freie Softwaresysteme für Jedermann zugänglich zu machen, in dem man die Bedienbarkeit und die Qualität massgeblich erhöht, dann wird das auch die Stiftungen und staatlichen Stellen sehr ansprechen. Das entspräche genau dem, wofür ich mich in diesem Bereich engagiere!
Ich kann nur sagen: lass es uns tun! Ich schiebe das gleiche gerade im Sprachsektor an aus aktueller Notwendigkeit und es wird sehr gut aufgenommen.
Desweiteren überlege ich auch das Ziel der freien Software in ein internationales Projekt, an dem ich arbeite und was die ganze Gesellschaft betrifft, direkt mit einfliessen zu lassen. Ich glaube das man darüber den Menschen den Wert und das Ideal der freien Software innerhalb der digitalen Welt gut verständlich machen könnte und das "frei" eben nicht gleich "frei" ist.
Freeware ist nicht frei. Und genauso ist ein Anieter, der "freie" soziale Netzwerke anbietet, z.B. nicht frei. Im Gegenteil, es besteht eine grosse Abhängigkeit. FREI bedeutet jedoch vor allem auch: ohne Abhängigkeit!

Das Thema ist im Allgemeinen sicherlich schon viel wissenschaftlich bearbeitet worden, ob hier die Informatik oder Freie Software anders ist, kann ich noch nicht sagen. In einer Ausgabe von "Asyle" von Erving Goffmann las ich einmal einen Artikel über das Aushandeln von Preisen für hochqualifizierte Dienstleistung, als These nahm ich damals mit: Entweder den vollen Preis oder garnichts verlangen. Damals leutete mir das ein, aber ich kann mich nicht mehr an die Argument erinnern.

Da hattest du mich ein bisschen Missverstanden :) Ich meine vor allem all die viele freie Software, die für GNU/Linux erhältlich ist. Hier muss man ja auch erstmal in der Tiefe durchblicken, um Nachbarn helfen zu können...
Naja, das ist ja die Arbeit, die der Distributor macht. Er überlegt sich, was seine Kunden wohl gerne hätten -- eben damit nicht jeder selbst diese Arbeit machen muss.

Du musst das als Verbraucher (zum Glück) gar nicht selber wissen. Ist ja auch ein ziemlich großer Aufwand. Übertrag die Arbeit doch auf andere. Wenn du einen Computer kaufst, dann kaufe den mit GNU/Linux vorinstalliert (in der Fellowship Verlosung sind alleine zwei Anbieter dafür, linsoft für Desktop-System und xtops für Laptops). Deinen Mitmenschen kannst du dadurch helfen, dass du ihnen empfiehlst das gleiche zu tun :)

Leider achten diese Angebote oft auch nicht auf die Unterstützung durch Freie Software, sondern bauen einfach Hardware ein, die "gut" mit GNU/Linux funktioniert.
Das klassische Beispiel sind hier wiedermal die Grafikkarten. Auch bei den GNU/Linux-Komplettsystemen werden gerne NVidia Karten verbaut. Ich hätte da lieber ein System mit einer etwas älteren ATI Karte, welche bereits 3D Unterstützung durch x.org hat, oder noch besser einer Intel on-board Grafikkarte, welche direkt von Intel mit freien Treibern versorgt wird.

Wenn sich natürlich wirklich jemand einen PC zulegen oder neu erwerben möchte, ob heute oder in der Zukunft, dann ist es natürlich ideal, wenn er dann einfach gleich ein entsprechendes Komplettsystem kauft. Dafür muss man eben schon im Vorfeld auf diese Option hinweisst, dafür Öffentlichkeitswerbung machen (auch im Rahmen einer Nachbarschaftshilfe), damit die Leute im Falle des Falles auch wissen: aha, es gibt ja eine Alternative!
Aber nur ganz wenige werden wie geschrieben einen neuen PC wg. dem Umstieg auf freie Software kaufen. Aus ökologischer Sicht muss ich da wie gesagt auch sagen: ein Glück! Mir ist da Vista z.B. ein grosses Dorn im Auge und ich freue mich, dass die vielen Win Nutzer (unsere Nachbarn) allgemein bislang nicht auf diese Ente reinzufallen scheinen. Jedenfalls war das Feedback vom Markt wohl sehr erhaben.
Kurz: Es führt kein Weg daran vorbei, den Menschen vor Ort zu helfen freie Software zu installieren und zu nutzen. Wenn wir wirklich freie Software auf den Rechnern überall haben wollen, müssen wir den Menschen, der breiten Gesellschaft, unseren Nachbarn auch helfen, diese installieren und anwenden zu können. Ansonsten ist das Sprechen über Freie Software nur reine Theorie und etwas Politik.

Da haben wir uns falsch verstanden. Ich meinte damit, dass _wenn_ sich jemand einen Computer kauft, soll er sich diesen möglichst mit GNU/Linux vorinstalliert kaufen. Das fördert Freie Software und ist natürlich viel einfacher als es selbst zu installieren.

Wenn sich natürlich wirklich jemand einen PC zulegen oder neu erwerben möchte, ob heute oder in der Zukunft, dann ist es natürlich ideal, wenn er dann einfach gleich ein entsprechendes Komplettsystem kauft. Dafür muss man eben schon im Vorfeld auf diese Option hinweisst, dafür Öffentlichkeitswerbung machen (auch im Rahmen einer Nachbarschaftshilfe), damit die Leute im Falle des Falles auch wissen: aha, es gibt ja eine Alternative!
Ja, es muss den Anwendern immer bekannt sein, dass es GNU/Linux gibt und wie man sich dieses beschaffen kann.
Aber nur ganz wenige werden wie geschrieben einen neuen PC wg. dem Umstieg auf freie Software kaufen. Aus ökologischer Sicht muss ich da wie gesagt auch sagen: ein Glück! Mir ist da Vista z.B. ein grosses Dorn im Auge und ich freue mich, dass die vielen Win Nutzer (unsere Nachbarn) allgemein bislang nicht auf diese Ente reinzufallen scheinen. Jedenfalls war das Feedback vom Markt wohl sehr erhaben.
Kurz: Es führt kein Weg daran vorbei, den Menschen vor Ort zu helfen freie Software zu installieren und zu nutzen. Wenn wir wirklich freie Software auf den Rechnern überall haben wollen, müssen wir den Menschen, der breiten Gesellschaft, unseren Nachbarn auch helfen, diese installieren und anwenden zu können. Ansonsten ist das Sprechen über Freie Software nur reine Theorie und etwas Politik.
Bei der Installation helfen ja Mitglieder von GNU/Linux-Benutzergruppen bei sogenannte Installationsparties. Ich fände es auch gut, wenn es mehr Diensleister geben würde, die dies gegen Entgelt anbieten. Bei komplizierten Problemen will ich nicht, dass sich andere wegen mir unbezahlt viel Zeit um die Ohren hauen.
Das Problem was ich dabei jedoch sehe, ist, dass viele Menschen nichts dafür bezahlen wollen und auch noch unfreundlich werden, wenn man ihnen unentgeldlich hilft und dann etwas nicht funktioniert.

ich finde es prima, wie Du mit konstruktiver Kritik umgehst. Der Punkt ist, daß wir den proprietären Entwicklern nicht auf den proprietären Leim gehen, indem wir Freie Software mit "Freeware" vermixen. Dann hätte sich nämlich doch "gratis" statt "Freiheit" im öffentlichen Meinungsbild durchgesetzt.
Und im Prinzip ist die Idee natürlich toll. Vielleicht kann ich die Tage auch mal einen inhaltlichen Beitrag leisten.

Wir sind ja alle nur Menschen. :) Und ein jeder Horizont von uns ist beschränkt. Habe jedenfalls noch nie jemanden gesehen, der die Wikipedia auswendig kann. ;) Jeder Mensch lernt ständig dazu, insofern er offen dafür ist und natürlich auch die kostruktive Kritik nett vorgetragen wird.
Allerdings ist der nette Umgang miteinander nicht immer selbstverständlich in der digitalen Welt, was mich sehr traurig und nachdenklich stimmt. Bei der zur selbstverständlich gewordenen Form der Kritik, die ich heute so oft in den verschiedensten öffentlichen Bloggs und Foren lese, wird mir oft nur schlecht. Das hat z.B. nichts mit Menschlichkeit, Lernen oder konstruktiver Kritik zu tun... es ist einfach nur schlecht und daneben. Deswegen hoffe ich z.B. sehr, dass es bald so etwas wie eine Blogger Netiquette geben wird. Bloggen und Verantwortung können nicht zwei unterschiedliche paar Schuhe sein.
Ich wünsche mir daher generell einen herzlicheren und bedächtigeren Umgang in der digitalen Welt zwischen den einzelnen Menschen und Projekten.

Grundsätzlich muss ich natürlich sagen, dass ich niemanden vorschreiben kann, was er mit seiner Software tut. Wenn er es unfrei verkaufen oder verschenken möchte, ok. Das ist seine Entscheidung. Letztlich wollen wir ja alle etwas zu Essen und ein Dach über dem Kopf haben. Aber vielleicht kann ein Grundeinkommen oder eben neue Geschäftsmodelle für freie Software an dieser Situation in kleinen Schritten etwas verändern.
Aber unabhängig davon muss es ja auch möglich sein, sich für humane Anliegen zu engagieren und diese weiter zu verbreiten. Und Freeware ist eben kein humanes Anliegen. Hinter Freeware steckt keine Ethik und deswegen ist sie nicht frei. Das ist der Punkt. Hinter freier Software steckt ein ethischer, humaner Anspruch.
Und diesen Anspruch möchte ich gerne gesamtgesellschaftlich in der digitalen Welt verbreitet sehen. Dafür setze ich mich ein...
Und im Prinzip ist die Idee natürlich toll. Vielleicht kann ich die Tage auch mal einen inhaltlichen Beitrag leisten.
