Hallo an alle,
manchmal bewegen wir uns im Bereich der Freien Software stark in unserer eigenen Bubble und erreichen viele gar nicht, weil sie sich in anderen Bubbles aufhalten.
Bei einer Diskussion im November auf der OpenRheinRuhr[1] haben Christian Imhorst, Lioh Möller, Michael Wehram und ich eine Diskussion zur Community in der Open-Source-Welt geführt. Dabei haben wir festgestellt, dass wir immer wieder mit den selben Leuten (oder Art von Leuten) auf Veranstaltungen reden und das Gefühl haben, dass wir nicht nur nicht alle erreichen, sondern deren Kanäle und Sprache wohl gar nicht bedienen.
Wir haben dann zu einer größeren Runde mit Freunden aus der Freien Software Community das Thema weiter diskutiert und z.B. festgestellt, dass wir uns zum Teil auch manchmal selbst im Weg stehen, da ab und an in den Linux User Groups die Distro-Battle wichtiger erscheint, als einfach einem Neuankömmling ein Linux auf auf dem Rechner zu installieren.
Weiter haben wir in einer Arbeitsgruppe ein Video-Format für Gnu/Linux.ch entwickelt, um hier auch ein anderes Publikum leichtgewichtig anzusprechen. [2]
In einer weiteren Arbeitsgruppe machen wir uns gerade Gedanken über ein Zertifikat zur Bewertung der Qualität von Freien Software Projekten. Wer sich hierfür interessiert, schreibt mich gerne an, dann kann ich dazu etwas mehr erzählen.
In der Bubble-Gruppen wollen wir momentan gute freie Software finden, die am besten besser ist als jede andere Closed-Software-Alternative, um mit dem Qualitätsaspekt hier außerhalb der Bubble zu überzeugen. Wie und wo genau, dass diskutieren wir noch. Und genau darum geht es. Ich möchte Euch mit dieser E-Mail gerne zur nächsten Runde einladen, wenn Ihr da etwas zu beitragen wollt.

beim Thema "Raus aus der Bubble" fallen mir als Erstes immer Wolf-Dieter (Zimmermann) und seine Mitstreiter ein, die wirklich gute Arbeit in Mülheim an der Ruhr leisten - mit Menschen, die wir sonst in der Regel nicht erreichen.
Dieser ist auch immer (berechtigterweise) kritisch gegenüber dem "Jargon" und das "Denglisch", welches wir pflegen und das geeignet ist, Menschen, die nicht zum "Free Software Core Team" gehören, einzuschüchtern und abzuschrecken.
An dieser Arbeit kann man sich sicherlich auch andernorts orientieren - auch wenn man keinen Aktivisten hat, der in seiner Gemeinde bekannt ist "wie ein bunter Hund".

Dazu kommt das Stallman'sche Diktum, dass man niemals nie unfreie Software oder Dienste benutzen darf und der nächste heilige Krieg wird darüber ausgetragen, dass 1 nicht Twitch oder TikTok nutzen darf, weil das ist unfrei und wir helfen auch nicht, wenn da jemand aktiv was macht. Das ist imho auch eine sehr gute Ausrede, sich einer modernen Welt komplett zu verschließen. Leider ist die Welt nicht so, wie ich sie gerne hätte, sondern wie ich sie vorfinde.
Weiter geht es auf den Smartphones mit iOS vs. Google vs. Android vs. LineageOS und was nicht noch alles. Oder die Weigerung jemanden zu helfen, der Windows installiert hat, weil das nunmal auf dem Computer drauf ist, als der Computer gekauft wurde. Selbst wenn man keine Ahnung von Windows hat, sind die meisten Probleme, Probleme von Endanwender:innen mit dem Web oder mit Office, die man unter bspw. Ubuntu auch haben könnte. Dabei wäre das eine gute Gelegenheit, für Freie Software zu werben und unter Windows auf LibreOffice, Nextcloud, Thunderbird und Co. umzustellen, damit das Betriebessystem in den Hintergrund rückt und am Ende des Prozesses nicht mehr so wichtig ist, weil alle meine Programme Plattformunabhängig sind.
Wir hatten hier auf der Liste mal eine Diskussion, die Wolfgang Romey angestoßen hatte zum Thema: "Raus aus der Umklammerung - Aus der Umklammerung durch die IT-Konzerne kann man sich befreien. Die vollständige Befreiung ist aber je nach dem Grad der Verstrickung leicht bis sehr schwer." Deswegen fängt man mit leichten Aufgaben an, wie Webbrowser, Office, Cloud-Provider/Client, E-Mail-Provider und steigert sich bis hin zu Betriebssystem und Hardware. Das finde ich immer noch, ist der Weg. Und vermutlich sind ihn die meisten von uns auch so gegangen, aber manchmal habe ich den Eindruck, dass wir, die wir, wie du sagst, zum "Free Software Core Team" gehören, gerne vergessen, dass das auch bei uns ein Prozess war und ist. Wir schauen uns den Wasserfall an und haben vergessen, dass er ein Fluss ist.
War bei mir zumindest so: Dass ich heute ein Google-freies LineageOS mit F-Droid als Store sehr gerne nutze, hat zwei Gründe: 1) Meine gesammlten jahrelangen Erfahrungen und Erkenntnisse mit freier sowie unfreier Software haben mich dazu motiviert und 2) F-Droid ist mittlerweile ein wirklich richtig guter Store geworden, den ich gerne selber nutze und auch sehr gerne weiterempfehlen mag.

Ich glaube das ist tatsächlich ein Faktor unter den Technikbegeisterten.
Irgendwer sagt ihm, dass er Distribution XYZ nutzen soll, weil er vollkommen davon begeistert ist, vergisst aber, dass er mit einem Linux Anfänger redet.
Mein Motto: Nutze erstmal am Anfang eine Ubuntu Distribution (am besten als LTS) und wenn du dich damit sicher fühlst, kannst du immer noch was anderes nutzen.Dafür bekommt man meiner Meinung nach die meiste Hilfestellung im Netz. Meine Erfahrungen ist nämlich, dass die Leute aus ihren Erfahrungen mit ihrer ersten Linux Distribution auf alle Linux Distributionen schließen und somit schnell für Linux an sich "verbrannt" sind...
Bei nicht Technikinteressierten installiere ich (nachdem ich vorher unter Windows auf Freie Software umgestellt habe und gecheckt habe was sie an Software und Treiber brauchen) Ubuntu Mate LTS. Macht den Support für mich einfacher (deswegen nutze ich es auch selber) und wenn sie doch mal was anderes wollen, sind sie vermutlich Flügge genug selbst zurecht zu kommen. (Bisher nicht passiert)

auch wir arbeiten manchmal für unser Ego:
1. Unsere Systeme kann nicht jeder installieren - und das ist auch gut so (wir sind eben die Experten und haben keine Lust jeden DAU zu supporten)
2. Hacker arbeiten auf der Kommandozeile (wir sind etwas Besonderes und wer nur rumklickt gehört nicht dazu)
3. Wir sprechen unsere Sprache (und wer sie nicht versteht, ist ein Looser).
4. Wir sind die Guten und haben den Durchblick - für Freiheit, digitale Teilhabe, gegen internationale Konzerne etc. (also die anderen sind halt entweder naiv oder böse).
Kurzum: Wir sind die digitale und soziale Elite! (auch wenn wir uns manchmal asozial verhalten)
Nur ein bisken wat zum Nachdenken - nicht böse gemeint!

Das wundert mich aber nicht. Im Bereich Fast Mass Consumer Electronics steht der Zeitgeist für Geiz, Selbstentfremdung und Produktion für die Tonne.
Ich bin stolz auf mein bisheriges Lebenswerk und das könnt ihr auch sein. So stolz, dass Fast Mass Consumer Electronics unsere freie und offene Philosophie gar nicht verdienen. Zeitverschwendung ! Landet eh in ein bis drei Jahren im Müll. (Zuspitzung Ende)
Wenn du keine Wertschätzung erfährst, bist du am falschen Ort!
Wir sind also wieder bei dem Pferd und Zaumzeug.
Ich fühle mich bei Kitas, Schulen, beliebigen Ämtern und in der Industrie am richtigen Ort. Linux war schon immer einer Buttom Up Evolution. Ich lade euch ein diesen Weg gemeinsam fortzusetzen und der Ohnmacht Parole zu bieten (ich war zu lange bei Greenpeace Braunschweig in der PR aktiv :-)).

Bei MAC-OS sieht es nicht anders aus, außer dass Sicherheit und Gemeinschaft noch mehr in den Mittelpunkt rücken.
Ich will Tuxedo ganz sicher nicht schlecht machen. Aber vergleicht das mal hiermit [3]:
- Wir stehen auf Open Source und auf frei - ach ja, eine Community gibt es auch
- Linux hat allgemein den Ruf sehr sicher zu sein
- Für jedes Bedürfnis, für jede Vorstellung gibt es ein passendes Linux-Betriebssystem und auch alte Rechner können mit Linux wiederbelebt werden. Allerdings muss man ein bisschen in sich gehen und herausfinden ….
- Für den Anfang ist das durchaus ausreichend und sinnvoll, um sich einzufinden, wenn man ein Neuling in Sachen Linux ist.
- Für ältere Maschinen geeignet

die FSF ist vom Anspruch, daß man unbedingt ausschließlich Freie Software nutzen muß, erfreulicherweise abgegangen und hat die Freedom-Ladder-Campaign gestartet (https://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/the-journey-begins-with-a-single-step-cl...), die zum Ziel hat, Leute schrittweise an Freie Software heran zu führen. Das finde ich einen sehr guten Ansatz.
Beim Linuxtreff in Mülheim an der Ruhr entziehen wir uns der Distributions-Diskussion, indem wir sie vorgeben. Gegenwärtig ist das Mint. Es gab bisher fast niemanden, der damit nicht einverstanden wäre. Ich selbst würde lieber KDE installieren. Nach der Erstinstallation ist KDE/Plasma sehr einfach und Ressourcen schonend. Außerdem streben sie ja den "Blauen Engel" an (https://eco.kde.org/de/). Mir ist keine andere Distribution bekannt, die das macht.

Dazu kommt das Stallman'sche Diktum, dass man niemals nie unfreie Software oder Dienste benutzen darf und der nächste heilige Krieg wird darüber ausgetragen, dass 1 nicht Twitch oder TikTok nutzen darf, weil das ist unfrei und wir helfen auch nicht, wenn da jemand aktiv was macht. Das ist imho auch eine sehr gute Ausrede, sich einer modernen Welt komplett zu verschließen. Leider ist die Welt nicht so, wie ich sie gerne hätte, sondern wie ich sie vorfinde.
Weiter geht es auf den Smartphones mit iOS vs. Google vs. Android vs. LineageOS und was nicht noch alles. Oder die Weigerung jemanden zu helfen, der Windows installiert hat, weil das nunmal auf dem Computer drauf ist, als der Computer gekauft wurde. Selbst wenn man keine Ahnung von Windows hat, sind die meisten Probleme, Probleme von Endanwender:innen mit dem Web oder mit Office, die man unter bspw. Ubuntu auch haben könnte. Dabei wäre das eine gute Gelegenheit, für Freie Software zu werben und unter Windows auf LibreOffice, Nextcloud, Thunderbird und Co. umzustellen, damit das Betriebessystem in den Hintergrund rückt und am Ende des Prozesses nicht mehr so wichtig ist, weil alle meine Programme Plattformunabhängig sind.
Wir hatten hier auf der Liste mal eine Diskussion, die Wolfgang Romey angestoßen hatte zum Thema: "Raus aus der Umklammerung - Aus der Umklammerung durch die IT-Konzerne kann man sich befreien. Die vollständige Befreiung ist aber je nach dem Grad der Verstrickung leicht bis sehr schwer." Deswegen fängt man mit leichten Aufgaben an, wie Webbrowser, Office, Cloud-Provider/Client, E-Mail-Provider und steigert sich bis hin zu Betriebssystem und Hardware. Das finde ich immer noch, ist der Weg. Und vermutlich sind ihn die meisten von uns auch so gegangen, aber manchmal habe ich den Eindruck, dass wir, die wir, wie du sagst, zum "Free Software Core Team" gehören, gerne vergessen, dass das auch bei uns ein Prozess war und ist. Wir schauen uns den Wasserfall an und haben vergessen, dass er ein Fluss ist.
War bei mir zumindest so: Dass ich heute ein Google-freies LineageOS mit F-Droid als Store sehr gerne nutze, hat zwei Gründe: 1) Meine gesammlten jahrelangen Erfahrungen und Erkenntnisse mit freier sowie unfreier Software haben mich dazu motiviert und 2) F-Droid ist mittlerweile ein wirklich richtig guter Store geworden, den ich gerne selber nutze und auch sehr gerne weiterempfehlen mag.
