Die Autorin selbst ist mir kein Begriff, aber ich hatte den Eindruck (korrigiere mich einer, falls dieser falsch sein sollte!), sie sei vornehmlich auf dem (nord-)amerikanischen Kontinent unterwegs. Der Begriff der "Belästigung" ist da sehr anders ausgelegt als in Europa. Das heißt, was dort schon als Belästigung oder auch sexuelle Belästigung gewertet wird, kann hier mitunter sogar noch als freundschaftlicher Scherz durchgehen. Von daher würde ich den Artikel (für mich) als mit Vorsicht zu genießen einstufen, denn der kulturelle Kontext, der dort beschrieben wird, ist von uns Mitteleuropäern weiter weg als es scheinen mag.

Ich denke nicht, daß es ein besonderes Problem auf Konferenzen ist, sondern nach wie vor ein allgemeines: Wenn man sich als Frau in einem rein zahlenmäßig von Männern dominierten Feld bewegt, kommt man leider immer wieder in die Situation, die eigene Kompetenz beweisen zu müssen. (In weiblich dominierten Feldern, geht es Männern genauso.) Aus meiner und der Erfahrung meiner weiblichen Freunde und Bekannten kann ich sagen, daß es auf IT-Konferenzen nicht *häufiger* vorkommt als in anderen Kontexten, in denen es um fachliche Kompetenz geht, aber natürlich kommt es auch dort vor.
Was sexuelle Belästigung in solchen Kontexten angeht, habe ich bis zu diesem Artikel vorher glücklicherweise noch nie so etwas von einer FLOSS-Konferenz gehört.
Nachdem der Wunsch nach mehr Frauen in der Freie-Software-Welt ja immer häufiger von Männern thematisiert wird, wäre es vielleicht auch mal Zeit für eine Aktion in diese Richtung, die von Männern initiiert wird. Bislang organisieren sich zwar immer mehr Frauen in diesem Bereich (Debian Women, LinuxChix etc.) - was auch toll ist, aber wo bleiben die Männer dabei? Wenn ihr als Männer Frauen signalisieren möchtet, daß sie willkommen sind, dann organisiert euch doch mal dafür. Wie wäre es für den Anfang mal mit einer Vortragsreihe von Frauen zu diesem Thema in einigen Fellowship-Gruppen oder web-Bannern und/oder Buttons mit einem entsprechenden Motto? Just my 2 cents.

Naja, ich hab's nur auf nebenbei mitbekommen im IRC-channel der FrOSCon. Nachdem Jemand den Link dort gepostet hat, wurde die Absicht geäußert, bei der Autorin des Artikels nachzufragen. Ob sich tatsächlich etwas in die Richtung getan hat weiß ich aber nicht.

Lena Simon hat im Frühling bei der Berliner Fellowship-Gruppe einen sehr guten Vortrag dazu gehalten. (Außerdem bei den Chemnitzer LinuxTagen -- weiß nicht ob sonst noch wo.)
Was Initiative von Männern angeht, sehe ich das problematisch. Vor Lenas Vortrag hatte ich schon ein oder zwei Vorträge zu dem Thema gesehen, die von Männern gehalten wurden, und diese waren nicht sehr aufschlussreich. Alles was dort kam waren ein paar Mutmaßungen und vage Vorschläge -- weder echte Einblicke in die Ursachen, noch konkrete Maßnahmen zur Abhilfe. Die Wahrheit ist, dass den meisten Männern einfach das nötige Wissen fehlt. Selbst wenn wir uns alle ersthaft in die Gender-Problematik reinarbeiten würden, wäre es immer noch rein theoretisches Wissen.
Natürlich haben sich auch die meisten Frauen mit dem Thema nicht so intensiv beschäftig wie Lena zum Beispiel; aber sie kennen die Probleme ja trotzdem, da sie diese regelmäßig selbt erleben... Ich denke selbst kleine Ansätze von den (leider noch wenigen) Frauen bei der FSFE sind wirksamer, als wenn die Männer als Stümper versuchen etwas zu bewegen, und es womöglich noch schlimmer machen :-) Die Hauptschwierigkeit besteht ja darin, dafür zu sorgen, dass Frauen sich willkommen fühlen -- aber ohne dass es gezwungen wirkt... Und da fehlt mir zum Beispiel definitv das nötige Feingefühl für.

Es ging ja auch nicht darum, dass Männer die Vorträge halten sollten. Es gibt doch genug andere Dinge zu tun. Zum Beispiel das Thema überhaupt in der lokalen LUG anzusprechen. Oder die entsprechenden Vorträge anzuleiern, auch wenn sie dann von anderen gehalten werden.
Denn der Wunsch nach solchen Vorträge sollte idealerweise direkt von den Männern der entsprechenden Gruppe kommen.
Vor Lenas Vortrag hatte ich schon ein oder zwei Vorträge zu dem Thema gesehen, die von Männern gehalten wurden, und diese waren nicht sehr aufschlussreich. Die Wahrheit ist, dass den meisten Männern einfach das nötige Wissen fehlt. Selbst wenn wir uns alle ersthaft in die Gender-Problematik reinarbeiten würden, wäre es immer noch rein theoretisches Wissen.
Ich würde sogar einen Schritt weiter gehen und sagen:
Wenn in eine einem Vortrag (bzw. einer Diskussion) nicht mindestens eine Frau aktiv eingebunden ist, dann kann man sich das auch sparen.
Eine Antidiskriminierungs-Veranstaltung ohne Einbeziehung der Betroffenen - statt _mit_ ihnen nur _über_ sie zu reden - gibt es eine größere Farce?
Selbst wenn man keine Frau findet, die den Vortrag halten möchte, sollte der Vortragende doch zumindest in der Vorbereitung mit einer Frau zusammenarbeiten.
Zu glauben, dass man das "auch so" schaffe, weil man doch "auch so" schon aufgeklärt und unvoreingenomen sei - genau diese ignorante Geisteshaltung ist ein Garant dafür, dass nichts Sinnvolles dabei heraus kommt. Ein Thema, das man nicht ernst nimmt, kann man auch nicht ordentlich rüberbringen.

verstehe das mit dem "nachvollziehbaren Teil" überhaupt nicht. Da berichten verschiedene Frauen von Erlebnissen, wie z.B.:

Ich sehe hier keine Verwechselungsgefahr zu einem freundschaftlichen Scherz. Wenn Du als "nachvollziehbar" das meinst, was Du selber ähnlich erlebt hast, oder Du den Bericht "glaubst" - dann lässt Du ja praktisch alles weg, was krass ist. Ich sehe da allerdings keinen Grund darin, da was in Zweifel zu ziehen.

Ich denke es hat auch was mit der Art der Szene zu tun. Viele Jahrzehnte war die Hacker- und Open Source-Szene ja primär männerdominiert - auch von vielen Männern als Enklave eines wie auch immer gearteten Maskulismus betrachtet. Also eher nebenbei. Sozusagen: "Mann" trifft sich. Das im Gegensatz zu mancher Politszene, wo sich durchaus feministische Ideen verbreitet haben und daher sexistisches Verhalten geächtet wird und Konsequenzen hat.
Für viele Männer stellt Feminismus ja immer noch ein Feindbild dar und es regt irrationale Ängste an, dass ihnen da jemand ihre Männlichkeit wegnehmen will. Darunter liegen Vorstellungen, dass es dazu gehört sexistisch zu sein, um ein echter Mann zu sein. Daher finde ich es auch ganz wichtig, dass Konferenzen da schon in der Planung klar machen, wo sie stehen. Damit solche Männer gleich wissen, dass sie sich entweder benehmen müssen oder wegbleiben. Die technische Ausrichtung vieler Konferenzen legt aber nahe, dass es nur darum geht, Leute ranzuholen, die technisch kompetent sind - auch wenn sie Arschlöcher sind.
Von den krassen Beispielen mal abgesehen ist es aber auch m.E. eine praktische Einstellung davon auszugehen, dass wir alle nicht frei von Sexismen sind, weil wir alle Kinder unserer Zeit sind. D.h. auf einen blöden Spruch kann man auchmal darauf hinweisen, wie das ankommt/wirkt - und nicht gleich mit einem Platzverweis reagieren.
Letztendlich sollte das Ziel sein, dass sich die Leute auf Konferenzen wohl fühlen, aber nicht nur mehrheitlich und auf Kosten von wenigen (z.B: Frauen)

Ich hatte mal vorgeschlagen einen weltweiten Tag für Frauen in Open Source einzurichten. Das war im Prinzip auch positiv aufgenommen worden bei GNOME und anderen. Aber veranstalten und initiieren sollten das m.E. dann doch Frauen. Aber vielleicht will der FSF die Idee ja noch mal aufgreifen?

Anscheinend bin ich nicht fähig, den betreffenden Link zu finden. Kannst du da etwas präziser sein? Mich würde das im Zusammenhang mit der FrOSCon aber eher wundern.

Es ist kein Problem von irgend einer Organisation oder Veranstaltung sondern ein Problem eines Mannes mit einer Frau. Alle Männer sind sch(*****)ade ist genauso abwegig wie alle Frauen sind sch(*****)ade. Welches Verhalten schreckt Frauen ab, was uns als Männern vielleicht gar nicht bewußt ist? Und wie können wir diesem Verhalten entgegen wirken?
Wir müssen uns hier nicht darüber unterhalten, wie wir uns verhalten, wenn eine Frau körperlich sexuel belästigt wird, geschweige den Vergewaltigungsbeispiele diskutieren. Niemand auf dieser Liste wird bei solchen Vorfällen wegschauen, sei es auf Freien-Software-Konferenzen oder sonst wo.

Gerne. Meine Mail war ein Versuch die Diskussion vor Arnulfs Einwand zu "legitimieren". Ich bedauere es, auf Arnulfs Mail überhaupt geantwortet zu haben.

Ich hatte die gleiche hohe Meinung von den Listenmitgliedern und habe beim Schreiben meiner Mail gar nicht daran gedacht, dass diese Frage zur Debatte stehen könnte. Es war als überspitzte rhetorische Frage gedacht um meinen Punkt zu verdeutlichen. Ich sehe ein, dass dies ohne Kenntnis meiner Person, nicht zu erkennen war und entschuldige mich hiermit dafür.
