Sehr geehrtes Team des Elektrischen Reporters,
wir von der Free Software Foundation Europe verfolgen ihre Sendung schon seit Beginn der Phase 2 mit großer Begeisterung. Ihre Art, den Einfluss von Internet und moderner Technologie auf unsere Gesellschaft kurz, anschaulich und allgemeinverständlich darzustellen, trägt zu einem breiteren Verständnis dieser Themen in der Gesellschaft bei. Der elektrische Reporter gibt der Netzgemeinschaft eine Stimme in den Medien. Dies war längst überfällig und dafür wollen wir ihnen herzlich danken.
Jedoch bedauern wir, dass der in unseren Augen wichtige Aspekt der Freiheit der Nutzer und der Verteilung von Macht über Technologie bisher kaum Beachtung fand. Die neuen Möglichkeiten sind faszinierend und verändern unsere Gesellschaft fundamental. Doch die Frage, wer wie viel Macht über diese neuen Technologien hat, wird leider kaum gestellt.
Unsere US-Schwesterorganisation setzt sich seit 1984 und wir uns seit 2001 für die Freiheit in der Gesellschaft (für Computernutzerinnen, Unternehmen etc.) ein. Wir konzentrieren uns dabei in erster Linie auf Software, weil sie die Möglichkeiten von Technologie maßgeblich bestimmt. Wir sind davon überzeugt, dass jeder Software uneingeschränkt nutzen, studieren, teilen und verbessern/verändern können muss. (Diese Überzeugung stand auch Pate für die Creative Commons Lizenzen.) Damit wird Macht möglichst breit verteilt und demokratisiert. Fortschritt und Innovation kann von jedem ausgehen und hängt nicht von einzelnen (Firmen) ab. Hier Teilen wir auch die Kritik am Apple AppStore, gehen aber noch weiter. Es geht nicht nur darum beliebige Programme auf einzelnen Geräten installieren zu können, sondern auch darum technologische Möglichkeiten selbst gestalten und daran teilhaben zu können.
So wie die Netzgemeinschaft den Informationsfluss erzeugt und gestaltet, baut sie schon wesentlich länger an den technischen Werkzeugen (Software) und Paradigmen der vernetzten Zusammenarbeit, die alle anderen Arten der Teilhabe an der modernen Informationsgesellschaft erst ermöglichen. Hier liegt die große Bedeutung von Freier Software für die Gemeinschaft. Je mehr Macht z.B. Twitter durch immer mehr Nutzerinnen erhält, umso einschneidender könnten eventuelle Eingriffe der Betreiber in das System sein. Die Freie Software StatusNet versucht Microblogging zu demokratisieren und dezentralisieren. Bekannstestes Beispiel hierfür ist Identi.ca. Ziel ist es, einen Dienst zu schaffen, den ein einzelner Betreiber nicht einfach bei Bedarf abschalten oder einschränken kann (wie das bei E-Mail oder mit Jabber bereits gelungen ist). Je wichtiger eine solche Plattform für die Gemeinschaft wird, umso wichtiger ist es, dass sie nicht in der Kontrolle einzelner weniger liegt.
Auch deshalb finden wir, dass Freie Software thematisch sehr gut in ihre Sendung passen würde, ja eigentlich gar nicht darin fehlen darf. Daher würden wir uns freuen, wenn Sie dieses Thema verstärkt aufgreifen würden (u.a. als Thema einer ihrer späteren Sendungen). Für Fragen, weitere Erläuterungen und Interviews stehen wir ihnen selbstverständlich zur Verfügung.

Ich möchte mich dem Lob anschliessen, es ist eine tolle Sendung! Ich habe sie allerdings schon eine Weile nicht gesehen und kann deshalb nicht kommentieren, inwiefern die Aspekte der Freiheit zur Zeit Beachtung finden. Hingegen widmeten sich die frühen Sendungen Nr 6, 7, 13 und 14 explizit diesen Gedanken zumindest in Bezug auf Inhalte.

Sie sind auch auf der Ubuntu Swiss Remix DVD aus dem Jahre 2008 vorhanden, ich habe noch massenweise von diesen Scheiben, allerdings ohne Aufdruck. Eine Kopie der Extras dieser DVD befindet sich auf http://www.trampelwurm.ch/schmidt/wilhelmtux/swissremix/extras/CC-BY-NC-SA/ (das ist das Verzeichnis mit den 4 Sendungen drin, es hat auch anderes).
Die neueren Swiss Remix DVDs befinden sich auf http://www.teamubuntu.ch/pub/ Sie haben allerdings nur noch kommerziell nutzbare Extras, also leider keine Elektrischer Reporter mehr.
Die DVDs entsprechen allerdings dem schweizerischen Urheberrecht und sind in Deutschland oder Österreich vielleicht nicht legal.
