heute fand ich in meinem Hochschul-Emailaccount anhängende Email, in der Studenten proprietäre MS- Software angeboten wird.
In der Email heißt es: "die HTW Dresden ist zusammen mit den anderen sächsischen Hochschulen und Universitäten dem landesweiten Microsoft Campus Agreement (und damit dem Bundesvertrag) beigetreten und hat damit für die HTW Dresden eine Reihe von Microsoft Server und Desktop-Produkten auf Mietbasis lizenziert.[...]"
Angeblich soll das für uns Studenten ja ganz umsonst sein - das ist es bestimmt ;-) - aber bezahlt haben will es M$ bestimmt trotzdem. Mir stellt sich nun die Frage, wie bzw. wovon das genau bezahlt wird und vor allem: könnte man das Geld nicht für Wichtigeres verwenden? Wo doch vielerorts schon eine Infrastruktur existiert, die auf nachhaltigerer freier Software und freien Standard basiert.
Ein anderer Punkt ist die Unabhängigkeit, die - zumindest meiner Ansicht nach - durch so ein "Agreement" leichtfertig gefährdet wird. Wäre es nicht besser Grundlagen (am Bsp. freier Software!) zu vermitteln und anschließend mit verschiedenen (natürlich auch proprietären) Programmen/ Produkten zu vergleichen?
Mein Anliegen ist nun: um beratende Unterstützung zu bitten, da ich selbst noch nicht so viel Erfahrung im Umgang mit Verwaltungen habe.

Bezahlt wird sowas übrigens i.d.R. aus dem Budget, dass der Hochschul-IT zur Verfügung steht. Ich denke, da sind die Hochschulen alle ähnlich gestrickt.
Wir weisen im Service die Studis immer wieder auf die freien Alternativen hin, aber leider fruchtet das nicht wirklich. Viele haben da echte Scheuklappen. Ud selbst in "Snowden-Zeiten" wird die Speicherung der Daten bei M$ als supertolle Sache empfunden. Ich gebe aber die Hoffnung nicht auf.

Das erweckt den Anschein, dass MS sich hinsichtlich der Lizenzierung der Verwaltung etc. "großzügig" zeigt unter der Bedingung, dass auch die Studierenden "angefixt" werden.
Bedenkt man die Abhängigkeit der Studenten und deren Vertrauen in die Kompetenz und Seriösität der Lehrenden, dann kann einem bei solchen "Geschäften" ziemlich übel werden, zumal immer mehr Minderjährige die Hochschulen bevölkern. Mit der stets proklamierten Freiheit von Forschung und Lehre hat soetwas jedenfalls in meinen Augen nichts mehr zu tun.
Übrigens können auch die Bediensteten der Hochschulen für den privaten Gebrauch MS-Lizenzen zwar nicht kostenlos, aber zu einem "Freundschaftspreis" erwerben.

Ich stoße immer wieder auf den Kreislauf: "Die Wirtschaft verlangt das so, daher machen wir das." -> Die künftigen Entscheider kennen nichts anderes, also wird das eingesetzt. Es findet eine Programmschulung, keine Kompetenzschulung statt. Es wird z.B. zwingend eine Präsentation in einem bestimmten Programm verlangt, nicht einfach eine Präsentation. (Zum Glück gibt es auch Ausnahmen, aber leider zu wenige!)

Psychologisch ist das leider nur allzu verständlich. Ein Produkt wird teuer angeboten (MS Office), also muss es auch viel Wert sein. Wenn ich jetzt die Möglichkeit habe, dieses hochwertige Produkt billiger zu erwerben, dann klingelt im Hirn der Schäppchensensor. Bei Freier Software dagegen haben wir es mit dem umgekehrten Phänomen zu tun: Was nichts kostet ist auch nichts. Deshalb ist das Kostenargument auch so gefährlich.

Und hier kommt das Gute an MS' Angebot: Wenn Du freie Software wirklich mit proprietärer vergleichen willst, kannst Du das jetzt einfach tun. Du beschaffst mit kleinem Geld eine Infrastruktur auf MS-Basis und kannst sie so mit relativ wenig Invest gegen eine aus freier Software vergleichen. Müsstest Du zu Marktpreisen kaufen, ist der Invest viel höher, und das kippt schon mal das oder die ein oder andere Projekt/Seminar oder Semester-/Doktorarbeit.
Bspw. wäre ein schönes Studienobjekt mal MS Lösungen für KMUs gegen Univentions Lösung oder Zentyal.

Univention und Zentyal (und die Dienstleister, die beide vermarkten, installieren und supporten) können KMUs zig Tausende sparen, und die KMUs haben immer jemanden an der Hand, der ihnen einen Bug in der Config des Bind, des Sambas, CUPS' oder, oder, oder fixt, und das zu wesentlich(!) geringeren Kosten als bei MS.
Wenn keiner nie anfängt, können wir die FSFE auch einstampfen, oder?
Was also raus kommen soll: Bessere Lösungen für bestehende Software zu geringeren Kosten und bei wesentlich größerem Freiheitsgrad.

Nein.... ich meinte, dass es mehr braucht als eine billigere Lösung. Auch wenn es immer heißt TCOO oder wie die ganzen Abkürzungen immer lauten, das interessiert im Grunde nur noch, um die Entscheidung zu untermauern und nach außen zu vertreten. Die Entscheidung ist im Kopf schon gefallen. Es braucht Menschen, die die Unternehmen (= die Entscheider und Beeinflusser) davon überzeugen. Also solche wie Matthias mit bunten Folien und charismatischen Auftreten oder auch z.B. Menschen wie Peer Heinlein, die konkrete Themen (z.B. Mailserver) sympatisch rüber bringen können. Univention und die anderen ist da natürlich auch ein wichtiger Teil davon. Aber diese können auch mit einem guten Produkt, nicht alles machen.

Ein weiteres Kriterium ist Herstellersupport. Und dass ist eine sehr hohe Hürde für Freie Software

Dazu kommt, dass der Support von Herstellerseite tatsächlich was andres ist, als das, was die Anwender gerne möchten. Wenn man sich das in der Realität mal ansieht, Cisco rührt sich selbst bei einer mittelgroßen Universität mit Problemen nur träge. Microsoft bietet so gut wie keine Möglichkeit für den noramlen Nutzer, Fehler zu berichten (wahrscheinlich aus gutem Grund, aber anderes Thema) und wenn man sich VMWare oder die ganzen Lab-Software ansieht, dann stehen dahinter sauteure Abo-Modelle.
Wenn auch zum Teil recht teuer, finde ich das Modell von RH und SuSE schon einen Tick besser.

Will damit sagen: Ich glaube, die Supportsache ist in vielen Fällen auch nur vorgeschoben, um eine schon geschehe Entscheidung, so nach Bauchgefühl heraus, zu bestätigen und zu verkaufen. Und genau das finde ich so wichtig an unserem Job: Wir müssen freie Software mit einem positiven Bauchgefühl belegen. Das geht klar durch überzeugende Software und gute Argumente, aber vielmehr durch bunte Folien und charismatische Menschen, die eben bei Kanzler/Rektor/CEO/CIO/* vorbei gehen und einen netten Plausch machen.

Da hast Du völlig recht, und das ist ein wesentliches Argument pro Freie Software.
Ich fürchte aber, dass wir noch viel Überzeugungsarbeit leisten müssen, bis das in den Köpfen sogenannter Entscheider ankommt, denn für die ist "Herstellersupport" eine Art Gütesiegel.
Ein weitere Aspekt ist, dass bei mancher Freier Software der Hersteller weiterhin in einer gewissen Sonderrolle ist, weil noch niemand versucht hat, ihn einzuholen.

Hm... in dieser Diskussion fehlt mir eine wichtige Komponente.
Das eigentliche "Problem" freier Software ist, dass sie nicht als Kapital nutzbar ist. Deshalb ist sie für die großen Softwarekonzerne uninteressant. Die großen Softwarekonzerne sind aber unbestrittenermaßen die mächtigsten Organisationen, die es momentan gibt. Es ist nur logisch, dass die auch die besten Resultate liefern. Zumindest da, wo es ihnen wichtig ist. Zum Beispiel beim Entwickeln einer narrensicheren Benutzeroberfläche, die "einfach funktioniert".
Wenn wir immer nur wiederholen, dass freie Software besser ist, dann glaubt uns das keiner. Jeder Doof sieht doch (und bezeugt das stolz), dass er mit Ubuntu *nicht* alleine klar kommt, aber wohl mit Macintosh oder Windows. Wir müssen lernen zuzugeben, dass freie Software in Sachen Narrensicherheit nicht konkurrieren *kann*, dass Freie Software in der Tat "nicht so bequem" ist. Nur dann können wir Vertrauen erwarten, nur dann können wir unseren Zuhörern erklären, weshalb es wichtig ist, den etwas unbequemeren Weg zu gehen, und dass der Verlust an Bequemlichkeit viel geringer ist als es auf den ersten Blick scheint.

Das ist eine andere Ebene von "klarkommen".
Der User will das Gefühl haben, dass er "alles machen kann". Was er nicht sieht oder was er für eine Gefahr für andere darstellt ist dabei irrelevant. So wie manchmal bei Senioren im Straßenverkehr. :)

Dass sie mit Windows alleine klar kommen ist Quatsch. Wenn das so wäre hätten wir z.B. nicht so gut funktionierende Botnetzwerke.
Das ist eine andere Ebene von "klarkommen".
Der User will das Gefühl haben, dass er "alles machen kann". Was er nicht sieht oder was er für eine Gefahr für andere darstellt ist dabei irrelevant. So wie manchmal bei Senioren im Straßenverkehr. :)

Alle Nicht-Fachleute, mit denen ich über freie Software rede, sagen mir dass im Grunde immer wieder.

Und dann kann man den Hebel ansetzen: Ja, das "besser" habe ich bewusst in Anführungszeichen gesetzt, denn es sieht nur auf den ersten Blick "besser" aus. Windows ist *narrensicherer* und *bequemer zu bedienen* als Linux. Die Hersteller proprietärer Software verwenden den größten Teil ihrer Programmierer-Ressourcen in diese Werte, die bei freier Software unwichtig sind. Ich glaube, das ist es nicht. Man *kann* einen Linux-Desktop so einrichten, dass er sich praktisch z.B. wie Windows XP verhält, oder besser.
Ich habe das mal gemacht für eine alte Frau, die noch nie einen PC benutzt hatte. Sie kam relativ schnell klar und war zufrieden, hat dann aber doch auf Windows gewechselt, weil ihr Enkel das so wollte, um bei ihr seine Spiele auf Windows zu verwenden.
Oder ich hatte meinem Bürokollegen einen tip-toppen Linux-Desktop eingerichtet, aber im Redmond-Stil. Er wollte dann aber dann doch Windows, weil er das Gefühl hatte, dass seine in Open Office gemachten Präsentationen nicht funktionierten. Hatte also nichts mit dem Desktop zu tun und nicht einmal mit Open Office, da er einfach immer vergass, seine verlinkten Grafiken mitzunehmen.
Usw. Es sind meistens andere Gründe als ein wirkliches nicht-Klarkommen.
Dazu kommt das unglaubliche Wirrwarr von Distributionen mit unterschiedlich konfigurierten Desktop-Umgebungen. Das nervt auch mich. Die Leute mögen das nicht. Eine Auswahl zwischen zwei oder drei Sachen ist OK, aber gleich Dutzende, die sich zudem alle paar Monate ändern?
Leute kommen nicht mit Windows besser klar, weil es eine bessere Usability hat, sondern weil es so lange gleich bleibt und immer gleich vorkonfiguriert ist. So dachte ich jedenfalls bisher. Mit Windows 8 ist jetzt aber alles anders und ich verstehe nicht weshalb sich das die Leute antun, dieselben Leute, die reklamieren, wenn ein Linux-System sich nicht genau gleich verhält wie ihr altes Windows,

Mein Eindruck ist, dass sich die meisten Nutzer so sehr an die Schwächen von Windows-Systemen gewöhnt haben (schließlich kämpft der ganze Kollegen- und Bekanntenkreis ja auch damit), dass sie diese Schwächen für normal halten - die ihnen weniger vertrauten Schwächen von Linux dagegen nicht.
Klassisches Beispiel ist für mich die sehr umständliche Installation, Deinstallation und Aktualisierung von Programmen unter Windows (oder hat sich Windows hier mittlerweile gebessert?). Unter Linux ist das ja mit apt-get und dergleichen ein Klacks. Aber die meisten Windows-Nutzer können sich vermutlich gar nicht vorstellen, dass solche Dinge so einfach funktionieren können.

Der Windows-Desktop bekommt dann halt 10 verschiedene Auto-Updater (die sich dann aber auch alle ein Task-Leisten-Symbol gönnen) die regelmäßig nerven wenn ihre Software ein Update braucht. :)
Also sprich: Vollautomatische Updates. Der User sieht es immer wieder und kann das gar nicht vergessen, dass sein System so toll ist und immer alleine Updates sucht.

Ein hoch auf die Softwarebuden, die seit Windows 3.1 den gleichen Installer nehmen ;)
Nee, im Ernst. Mit MSI und ein paar anderen Sachen gibt es auch die Möglichkeit einer fast 1-Klick Installation und Deinstallation. Also vom Betriebsystem geht da schon einiges, wenn auch nicht auf dem Level von apt etc... aber viele Anwendungssoftware, die ja in der Entwicklung nichts kosten darf, kommt damit nicht klar.

Da sind es halt so Kleinigkeiten wie ein "pack & go assistent", was Microsoft hat und OpenOffice nicht.

Das Ändern ist ein großes Problem.
Als KDE 4 rauskam (und immer noch komplett buggy war als KDE 3 von keiner Distribution mehr unterstützt wurde) habe ich meine "Klienten" zu Gnome migirert. Dann hat Gnome den gleichen Schritt auch gemacht (alten Desktop fallen lassen für etwas neues was noch nicht reif ist) und ich habe jetzt ein paar Benutzer auf MATE laufen. Aber auch das funktioniert nicht wirklich gut.
Ich werde in den nächsten Tagen mal einen User auf Unity umstellen und beobachten. Aber ich habe seit etwa 2 Jahren keinen Desktop mehr den ich einem Endanwender empfehlen könnte. Alles was ich bisher gestestet habe ist entweder sehr nerdy-minimalistisch (lxde, xfce) oder grade kurz vor oder nach einem fundamentalen Umbruch (kde, gnome).

Es gibt aber auch positive Gegenbeispiele: Vor ein paar Jahren habe ich ein paar interessierten Windows-Nutzern Knoppix-USB-Sticks mit LXDE-Desktop geschenkt (inklusive Partition zum permanenten Speichern persönlicher Daten und ein paar von mir vorinstallierten zusätzlichen Programmen).
Die haben die Dinger z.B. auf langsamen Netbooks eingesetzt und waren vom Fleck weg begeistert. Es gab nicht mal Beschwerden über mangelnde Features.

Ich habe beobachtet das viele Leute richtig angst haben am Rechner irgendetwas falsch zu machen. Es koennte ja was kaputt gehen oder das Internett geht weg oder was auch immer. Fuer viele ist Windows halt die vertraute Umgebung. Da ist es egal ob GNU/Linux, BSD oder was auch immer schneller ist, oder einfacher, oder sicherer.
Ich hab neulich einem Kollegen mit einer Kubuntu Live-DVD ausgeholfen. Er hatte propleme mit seiner Festplatte und war nicht sicher ob die Hardware kaputt war oder irgendwas mit dem System nicht stimmte. Der Laptop lies sich nichtmal mehr booten. Er sollte eigentlich nur die DVD starten und seine Daten auf ne USB-Platte sichern. Ich haette es nicht geglaubt aber er kam damit nicht zurecht! Ich dachte wenn das schon aussieht wie win7 wird er das schon schaffen... Er kam unteranderem mit Laufwerken nicht zurecht. Seine Daten liegen unter Laufwerk D (was auch immer das ist) und die USB-Platte hiess auch anders. Er hatte sich einfach nicht getraut die Daten zu kopieren. Bei dem Linux ist halt alles anders!
Ein Bekannter kam mal ganz aufgeloest an fragte ob ich ihm bei seine Netbook helfen kann. "Da geht immer so ein Fenster auf" Das ist scho ne Weile her, ich kann mich genau erinnern was das fuer ein Virus war aber alle Virenprogramme schlugen alarm und staendig popte ein Fenster auf das mich zum Zahlen aufforderte. Ich konnte das konnte da garnichts machen. Ich hab eh keine Ahnung von Windows. Nach Absprache hatte ich dann Kubuntu draufgemacht. Das lief auch garnicht so schlecht. Aber nicht lange! Da kam ne Windows Raubkopie drauf! Ist doch viel cooler, weil das haben alle!
Viele Leute sind einfach verunsichert wenn es um Computer geht. Man traut sich oft nicht selber Hand an zu legen. Es Koennte Kaputt gehen.
Ich denke das ist auch der Grund warum Smartphones und Tablets so beliebt sind. Das sind Rechner "zum Anfassen". Man kann die Apps "anfassen" und dranrumdruecken, und man kann eigentlich nicht viel falsch machen. Allerdings hat das auch wieder seinen Preis. Man macht sich wieder abhaengig von wenigen Herstellen. Wer freie Alternativen will geht mal wieder einen steinigen Weg. Freiheit hat halt auch seinen Preis

Geht mir ein bisschen ähnlich. Hier im Büro benutzen wie nach wie vor produktiv KDE 3.5.10 (auf OpenSuse), das alles tut, was wir wollen, zusammen mit Anwendungen von KDE4 und anderen Umgebungen. Im anderen Büro haben wir auf XFCE umgestellt. Privat ist die Auswahl grösser, ich werde aber wohl bei Mate hängen bleiben, falls KDE 3.5. nicht mehr gepflegt wird, oder etwas ganz einfaches zusammen mit Cairo-Dock.

Alle paar Wochen ist wieder "alles durcheinander" weil einer versehentlich die Funktion "Miniprogramme entsperren" gefunden hat und dann die einladenden Bildchen neben den Desktop-Icons auftauchen. Dann klickt man versehentlich irgendwas mit "Aktivitäten" an und das Chaos ist komplett.
KDE 3 war für ehemalige Windows-User nicht schlecht weil es eine ähnliche Usability verfolgt hat.
Ich bin ja eigentlich nicht festgefahren und probiere gern mal was aus. KDE 3 trauere ich auch etwas hinterher, habe ich lange Jahre benutzt. Aber KDE 4 hat mich von Beginn an gefrustet, ich hab noch kein positives Erlebnis damit gehabt. Immer wenn ich es wohlwollend ausprobiert habe, hatte ich nach wenigen Minuten stets schon Defizite entdeckt oder wurde von Features genervt die ich nicht haben will (Aktivitäten, Widgets auf dem Desktop). KDE ist für mich irgendwie kein unaufdringlicher Desktop mit dem man einfach nur normal arbeiten kann.
Ich denke weitere Diskussion zu diesem Thema gehört nicht auf diese Liste. Ich bin aber gerne bereit mir per PM die Kniffe anzuhören mit denen man KDE 4 DAU-tauglich macht.

Als ich angefangen hatte GNU/Linux zu benutzen habe ich noch KDE3 verwendet. Heute verwende ich nur noch den GNOME-Fallback Modus von Trisquel[1]. Weder Ubuntus Unity noch KDE4 ist für mich benutzbar.

Plasma selbst mag so seine Nachteile haben, wichtig im Allgemeinen und auch für diese Liste ist: Plasma ist nur eins der Produkte der großartigen Gemeinschaft, welche sich KDE nennt!
Ganz viele verwenden Software von KDE irgendwo, zum Beispiel auf Basis der KDE Plattform 4, sei es Gpg4win oder das großartige K3B, Amarok oder Digikam auf Windows. Es gibt sogar Elemente, welche in Qt gewandert sind, was in viele eingebettete Geräte reingekommt.
Wir scheint der größere Bedarf an leicht und günstigen Einsteigerdistributionen auch daher zu kommen, dass es wenig Geschäftsmodelle dazu gibt. Das ist der Grund, warum ich gern freiwillig für GNU/Linux Distributionen für Privatnutzer bezahle. (In der Vergangenheit mehrere Jahre für Mandriva, dann habe ich Balsam Professional (damals OpenSuse mit Support) gekauft, nun suche ich einen guten Weg für Opensuse und Kubuntu zu bezahlen.)
Wenn wir also was möchten, dann sollten wir zusehen, dass wir ein Unternehmen finden, was unser Geld nimmt und so eine schön zusammengestelle Desktop-Distribution pflegt.

Das merkwürdige ist zur Zeit: Ich habe bei jeder Software die ich über längere Zeit liebgewonnen habe große Angst dass auch dort jemand auf die Idee kommt, eine neue, "stylische", "zukunftssichere" Version zu machen die dann für einige Jahre plötzlich viele Dinge nicht mehr kann und ständig abstürzt. Fortschritt kann manchmal grausam sein. :)

Es war möglich und von KDE (der Initiative) teilweise empfohlen, die Anwendungen stabil under KDE 3 Plattform laufen zu lassen. Viele Nutzer wären damit besser gefahren, ich nutze heute noch täglich stabile KDE 3 Plattform-Anwendungen, auch wenn ich schon lange Plasma verwende. Meiner Ansicht nach hätten Distributionen den Nutzer hier die Nutzerinteressen hochhalten können.
Das merkwürdige ist zur Zeit: Ich habe bei jeder Software die ich über längere Zeit liebgewonnen habe große Angst dass auch dort jemand auf die Idee kommt, eine neue, "stylische", "zukunftssichere" Version zu machen die dann für einige Jahre plötzlich viele Dinge nicht mehr kann und ständig abstürzt. Fortschritt kann manchmal grausam sein. :)
Tja, je mehr und je besser es geht, desto mehr hast du Dich daran gewöhnt. Aber wenn die nächste Produktlinie nicht früh vorbereitet wird, dann verliert sich mittelfristig den Anschluß. :)

Viele Benutzer wollen, dass der Rechner (bzw. der Hard- und Softwarehersteller, der Administrator oder jemand anders) ihnen vorschreibt, was sie mit der Maschine machen sollen, weil dies so bequemer ist. Sie meinen, sie könnten dann nichts "falsch" machen. Für diese Nutzer ist es schon ein "Bug", wenn der Computer das macht, was sie ihm "sagen", aber nicht das, was sie wirklich wollen.
Diese Zielgruppe wird durchaus auch mit Freier Software bedient; man erinnere sich an Ubuntu, das für jede Aufgabe nur ein Programm distributieren wollte, was die Auswahl enorm erleichtert.
Es ist auch kein Naturgesetz, dass Freie Software kompliziert zu bedienen, schwierig einzurichten und inkonsistent in der Benutzung sein muss.
Es ist sogar so, dass Freie Software besser auf die Bedürfnisse spezieller Nutzergruppen anpassbar ist.
Letztlich aber muss man konstatieren, dass es unseren Prinzipien widerspricht, die Leute zu ihrem Glück zwingen zu wollen.

Definitiv. Gerade bei Computer-Anfängern habe ich da sehr gute Erfahrungen gemacht. Man nimmt sich irgendwas her, egal ob Xfce, KDE oder Gnome, und konfiguriert den Desktop, die Menüeinträge, etc. genau auf die Bedürfnisse des Nutzers. Und installiert genau die Tools, die sie brauchen.

Ich hatte mal einem Anfänger ein Linux mit ganz einfachem Xfce aufgesetzt, kein Problem. Später auf Gnome umgestellt, kein Problem. Er saß irgendwann bei Bekannten am Windows-Rechner und musste da was machen - und meinte, das sei ja fast genauso wie bei ihm.
Wenn man vorurteilsfreie, rein pragmatisch handelne Leute vor sich hat, sind die Unterschiede zwischen den großen Linux- Desktops und den Windows-Desktops wirklich vernachlässigbar.
Und die sind auch, objektiv gesehen, sehr ähnlich. Das merkt man spätestens dann, wenn man sich Window Manager ansieht, die anderen Konzepten folgen. Zum Beispiel Wmii, Xmonad, oder auch die auf Smartphones bzw. Tablets laufenden Oberflächen.
Leute kommen nicht mit Windows besser klar, weil es eine bessere Usability hat, sondern weil es so lange gleich bleibt und immer gleich vorkonfiguriert ist. So dachte ich jedenfalls bisher.

Mit Windows 8 ist jetzt aber alles anders und ich verstehe nicht weshalb sich das die Leute antun, dieselben Leute, die reklamieren, wenn ein Linux-System sich nicht genau gleich verhält wie ihr altes Windows,
Genau diesen Effekt habe ich auch erlebt. Ich dachte wirklich, Microsoft schießt sich ins eigene Knie mit Windows 8, aber bislang bleiben Ihnen die User treu, indem sie entweder bei XP bleiben oder die "Herausforderung annahmen" und sich in Windows 8 einfuchsten.
Diesen Effekt gab es übrigens schon damals, als Microsoft das Office-Paket komplett umgeräumt hatten. Dort gab es auch ein relativ großes Zeitfenster, in dem ein Umstieg auf OpenOffice viel weniger Änderungen mit sich brachte als ein Umsteig auf das neuste MS Office. Ich kenne trotzdem nur wenige, der deswegen auf OpenOffice umgestiegen sind.
Ich erkläre mir das so, dass Microsoft bzw. Windows einfach eine sehr starke, bei den meisten Nutzern positiv konnotierte Marke ist.
(Der andere Effekt, dass es nach wie vor etliche Software gibt, die nur auf Windows läuft, war bei diesen Nutzern jedenfalls nicht ausschlaggebend, da sie keine solche Software einsetzten.)

Diese Erklärung kann ich aus meinem Umfeld nicht bestätigen. Die meisten Nutzer schimpfen auf MS Office (besonders nach Office 2010), scheuen aber den Wechsel weil der Umgang damit von "allen" Arbeitgebern erwartet wird. Und die Firmen fürchten sich vor Kompatibilitätsproblemen beim Dateiaustausch nach außen.

es freut mich, dass Du Dir Gedanken um das Thema machst und die Zustände hinterfragst, dass ist nicht selbstverständlich.

Wäre es nicht besser Grundlagen (am Bsp. freier Software!) zu vermitteln und anschließend mit verschiedenen (natürlich auch proprietären) Programmen/ Produkten zu vergleichen?
Es gibt viele gute Gründe die eigene IT-Infrastruktur modular und einsehbar zu halten. Noch bessere Gründe gibt es sogar dafür, IT-Wissen an Freier Software zu vermitteln, denn es sind die einzigen Möglichkeiten wirklich tiefes Wissen und unabhängiges Denken zu erreichen.
Mein Anliegen ist nun: um beratende Unterstützung zu bitten, da ich selbst noch nicht so viel Erfahrung im Umgang mit Verwaltungen habe.
Freie Software spart (als Nebenpunkt) sogar tatsächlich Geld, aber die Widerstände dagegen sind halt sehr groß. Um eine Veränderung zu bewirken, musst Du sehen, wo ein Ansatzpunkt sein kann. Die meisten Verantwortlichen in den Verwaltungen würden das machen, was die Mehrheit macht und sehr gut belegt ist. An dem Punkt kannst Du gute Beispiele und Argumente sammeln. In Deutschland ist das zum Beispiel LiMux. Du findest in Europa viele weitere Beispiele für die öffentliche Verwaltung: https://joinup.ec.europa.eu/
Dann solltest Du Verbündete suchen, beispielsweise Hochschulgruppen, andere Studies, innovative neue Professorinnen. Bedenke: An den Hochschulen gehen viele Innovation von den Studies oder den eben noch Studies gewesenen aus. Personen welche länger in Mittelbau, Selbstverwaltung oder Lehre tätig sind, haben daran selten Interesse.
Gut ist, nicht nur mit Argumenten politisch und in Gremien zu arbeiten, sondern auch einen Nukleus von Leuten zu finden, welche Angebote bekommen, dann einen Nutzen davon haben und darüber reden. Beispielsweise eine Freie Software "Taskforce" welche von Studies and Studies Angebote macht. Wichtig ist dabei: Nur dann etwas anbieten und machen, wenn es wirklich zu einer guten Erfahrung führt, da läßt sich kaum moralisch argumentieren. Gibt es denn schon eine aktive FSFE-Fellowship Gruppe in der Nähe? Vielleicht mag die auch helfen?
Ich hoffe meine allgemein gehaltenen Tipps verhelfen Dir schon zu ein paar Ideen! :)
