Hallo,
wie bereits angekündigt, waren am Pfingstwochenende Martin Gollowitzer und seine Gemahlin aus Wien in Düsseldorf zu Gast. Sie waren mit dem Zug angereist, was eine recht lange Fahrt bedeutete.
Am Freitagabend, also am 13.05.2016, fand zur Begrüßung zunächst ein Treffen in der Geschäftsstelle in der Bilker Allee statt. Nachdem sich alle eingefunden hatten, ging es, auch weil die Stühle knapp wurden, zum "Stammgriechen", wo den Teilnehmern nicht nur das gute Uerige [0], sondern auch griechisches Bier mundete. das Wetter war sogar so, dass man zunächst draußen sitzen konnte.
Unterbrochen vom touristischen Programm unserer Gäste fanden am Samstag und Sonntag Gespräche in kleineren Runden statt.
Am Sonntagabend gab es dann das traditionelle außerordentliche Fellowshiptreffen statt, bei dem die Teilnehmer nicht nur über den Inhalt der Beratungen unterrichtet wurden, sondern auch die Gelegenheit erhielten, ihren Senf dazu zu geben. Auch dieses Treffen wurde dann nach einiger Zeit wieder in den Griechen verlegt.
Natürlich ging es bei den Gesprächen in den kleineren oder größeren Kreisen um das "Gestern, Heute und Morgen" der FSFE.
Dabei erinnerte man sich zunächst imponierender Leistungen der Vergangenheit, aber Dingen, die weniger gut waren. Über die Kritik der Gegenwart gab es praktisch keine Differenzen.
Allerdings konnte uns "Gollo" von interessanten Projekten in Wien berichten, und wir weihten ihn in unsere laufenden Projekte, beispielsweise das Team NRW, ein. In einem Projekt konnte er bereits praktische Erfahrungen sammeln, was ihm ersichtlich Freude bereitete.
Am Abend haben wir versucht, durch Pins in der Europakarte im Büro die aktiven Fellowshipgruppen und sonstige Aktivitäten zu markieren. Die meisten Aktivitäten und Gruppen waren ziemlich geballt dort, wo die FSFE ihr Büro derzeit schließt. Bis auf unsere niederländischen Freunde, die in den letzten Jahren recht imposant auf der T-DOSE [2] in Erscheinung getreten sind, einer recht isolierten Gruppe in Bari, sowie legendären Aktivitäten im Vereinigten Königreich konnten wir leider nur deutschsprachige aktive Gruppen ausmachen. Außerhalb der "Blauen Banane" [3] gab es nur "Vorposten". Innerhalb diese Gebietes dürften sich wohl auch die Fellows konzentrieren.
In diesem Zusammenhang haben wir "Gollo" darüber aufgeklärt, welche Bedeutung Arnsberg [4], ein Ort, den er bisher noch nicht kannte, als Sitz einer Bezirksregierung (davon gibt es fünf in NRW) hat.
Damit war für die Teilnehmer ein offensichtlichen Manko ausgemacht. In weiten Teilen Europas ist die FSFE nicht oder nur durch einzelne Aktivisten vertreten. Es waren, obwohl an den Beratungen immerhin zwei Mitglieder teilnahmen, leider auch keine nachhaltigen, gezielten und erfolgversprechenden Aktionen erkennbar, diesen Zustand baldmöglichst wesentlich zu ändern.
Selbst dort, wo in Europa Freie Software in Betrieben und Verwaltungen in größerem Umfange Fuß fasst, gibt es kaum Aktivisten der FSFE.
Zum Schluss möchte ich anmerken, dass Prognosen, die sich auf die Zukunft beziehen, bekanntlich immer schwierig sind. Wenn sich aber nichts ändert, wird die FSFE außerhalb des deutschsprachigen Raumes und der Niederlande, sowie gegenüber den EU-Organen auf absehbare Zeit wohl kaum die Relevanz erlangen, die sie zur europaweiten Verfolgung und kraftvollen Durchsetzung ihrer Ziele braucht.

Ich denke das liegt in der Natur der Sache. Ich zitiere den Anfang des von dir verwendeten Wikipedia-Artikels:
Die Blaue Banane bezeichnet eine dicht bevölkerte Zone, einen bandförmigen europäischen Großraum zwischen Irischer See und Mittelmeer, deren Urbanisierung eine Kette von Agglomerationen bildet (Megalopolis). Aufgrund der Verdichtung von Bevölkerung, Wirtschaft, Wissen und Kultur, Kapital, Medien, Verkehr, Siedlung und Infrastruktur sowie aufgrund seiner globalen Verflechtung erreicht dieser Raum einen hohen Grad der Zentralität und Dynamik. Fast alle zentralen Einrichtungen der Europäischen Union sowie 20 Global and World Cities befinden sich in diesem Raum.

"Nur durch einzelne Aktivisten"? Persönlich finde ich es sehr schade, dass ihr so sehr auf die Existenz von lokalen Gruppen fixiert seid anstatt die Leistung dieser einzelnen Aktivisten zu würdigen.
Lokale Gruppen sind meiner Meinung nach keine gute Kennzahl um die Bedeutung unserer Bewegung und die Größe der FSFE zu messen. Denn damit redet ihr den Beitrag hunderter Freiwillige in ganz Europa klein oder gar weg. Die 95% aller Fellows die keine lokale Gruppe vor Ort haben ... Wobei die meisten von denen gar nicht zwingend in keiner Gruppe sind weil sie inaktiv wären oder keine Lust hätten sondern weil einfach auch ein bißchen Glück zum Entstehen einer lokalen Gruppe dazu gehört. Zum Beispiel das mindestens 2-5 Leute im selben Bereich oder gar Stadtteil in einem ähnlichen Zeitraum Lust haben eine Gruppe aufzubauen und sich auch noch untereinander gut verstehen. Und das ist eben in der "Blauen Banane" ungleich wahrscheinlicher als in Resteuropa.
Und dennoch: - unser Newsletter wird monatlich in 6-8 Sprachen übersetzt - Unser Promo Material wurde 2014/15 "nur" zu 42% innerhalb von DACH bestellt und "nur" zu 42% in Deutscher Sprache.
Ich finde sehr wohl, dass diese Zahlen unsere Internationalität verdeutlichen wenn man mit einrechnet, dass DACH (die deutschsprachigen Länder D-A-CH) bereits etwa 20% der gesamten EU-Bevölkerung sind und sich zudem durch eine besonders hohe Bevölkerungsdichte und Großstadtkonzentration innerhalb der EU auszeichnet, und zudem noch die einzige Region der EU ist in der Länderübergreifend eine gemeinsame Sprache gesprochen wird ... dann erschließt sich doch sehr schnell warum gerade auch in DACH die meisten Fellow Gruppen sind oder nicht? Die Hälfte unserer Fellows sitzt sozusagen räumlich in der Mitte zusammen, sind mit Bus und Bahn und Sprache miteinander verbunden - und die andere Hälfte ist ringsumher verteilt. Und trotzdem macht genau diese andere Hälfte mehr als die Hälfte unserer Aktivität aus und verbreitet unsere Botschaft zudem in mehreren unterschiedlichen Sprachen!
Ich möchte an dieser Stelle deshalb all diesen Fellows meine Hochachtung aussprechen die ohne Gruppe ganz alleine unermüdlich unser Promo-Material verteilen, unsere Botschaft verbreiten, Vorträge halten oder ihren Freunden von der FSFE erzählen. Bitte lasst Euch nicht kleinreden und macht weiter so!

In Deutschland ist es recht leicht auf Veranstaltungen an Materialien zu kommen.
Ich finde sehr wohl, dass diese Zahlen unsere Internationalität verdeutlichen wenn man mit einrechnet, dass DACH (die deutschsprachigen Länder D-A-CH) bereits etwa 20% der gesamten EU-Bevölkerung sind und sich zudem durch eine besonders hohe Bevölkerungsdichte und Großstadtkonzentration innerhalb der EU auszeichnet, und zudem noch die einzige Region der EU ist in der Länderübergreifend eine gemeinsame Sprache gesprochen wird ..
Dies gilt für andere Regionen auch.

da ich selbst das Glück habe in Berlin zu wohnen und eine tolle lokale Gruppe vor Ort zu haben, weiß ich, dass davon ganz viel positive Energie ausgehen kann und ich freue mich für und über alle FSFE-Gruppen die wir haben und habe inzwischen auch schon mehreren Freiwilligen dabei geholfen aktive, stabile Gruppen aufzubauen.
Ich sage das hier noch einmal explizit als ein direktes Angebot an alle auf dieser Liste, die vielleicht darüber nachdenken eine lokale Gruppe aufzubauen: Ich bin dafür immer ansprechbar, es steht dafür hilfreiche FSFE Infrastruktur zur Verfügung (für Kommunikation/Organisation) und ich habe zudem Erfahrung in den do's und don'ts.

Nehmen wir mal das fiktive Land EUnien. In EUnien gibt es x < 10 Fellows und diese sind kreuz und quer über das Land verteilt, das nur wenig urbane Agglomerationen hat. Was würdest Du diesen Fellows empfehlen? Selbst aktiv werden? Oder auf Tag X warten bis noch 3 mehr Fellows in der gleichen Region erscheinen um dann erst mal eine Gruppe zu gründen um dann gemeinsam effektiver zu sein?
Und was würdest Du wiederum uns vorschlagen, das wir tun könnten, damit in der Region von Fellow x in EUnien sich eine Gruppe bildet? Und wie skaliert das ganze, damit wir das gleiche tun können für jeden dieser einzelnen Fellows in EUnien?

Ich habe nicht gesagt, alleine aktiv zu sein lohne sich nicht. Ich habe nur gesagt, dass es weniger wirksam sein kann, als in einer Gruppe, und mit mehr Risiken behaftet.
Eine Gruppe kann Kontinuität und Nachhaltigkeit besser gewährleisten, als ein Einzelner.
Wer politisch und gesellschaftlich aktiv sein will, kommt ohnehin nicht darum herum, soziale Kontakte zu pflegen. Hieraus ergibt sich dann häufig eine Zusammenarbeit mit Menschen, die gleiche oder ähnliche Ziele verfolgen. Und daraus kann sich dann eine Gruppe ergeben.
Das muss nicht eine explizite Fellowshipgruppe sein. Das kann auch eine Gruppe wie in Offenburg oder in Slowenien sein, in der auch Fellows oder auch nur ein Fellow aktiv sind/ist.
Nehmen wir mal das fiktive Land EUnien. In EUnien gibt es x < 10 Fellows und diese sind kreuz und quer über das Land verteilt, das nur wenig urbane Agglomerationen hat. Was würdest Du diesen Fellows empfehlen? Selbst aktiv werden?

Es gibt da zahlreiche Mittel und Wege. Der Phantasie sind da wenig Grenzen gesetzt. Das kann z.B. ein Vortrag eines unserer "Promis" sein. Das kann auch eine örtliche Aktion, beispielsweise ein Stand in der Fußgängerzone sein, die von "außen", also dem weiteren Umkreis Unterstützung erfährt, was dann wieder den Zusammenhalt der Fellows in EUnien fördern kann.
Das kann auch einmal eine Einladung zu einem unserer Treffen sein.
Das hängt halt von vielen Faktoren auch örtlicher und persönlicher Natur ab. Ein Patentrezept - "in einundzwanzig Schritten zur Fellowshipgruppe" - scheint es mir nicht zu geben. Da hilft nur, engen Kontakt zu halten und genau zuzuhören, um gezielt helfen zu können. "Look at the boy!"
Aber es gibt eben auch Vorbilder von sozialen und politischen Bewegungen, bei denen wir uns das eine oder andere abschauen können.
Selbst in den deutschsprachigen Fellowshipgruppen findet man beispielsweise "Helden der Beharrlichkeit".

Ja, das sind prinzipiell schon einmal gute Vorschläge aber das Problem ist, es skaliert nicht. Nicht so lange diese Aktivitäten Energie/Ressourcen von außen benötigen.
Zum einen ist eine einmalige Aktion zwar gut, aber wiederholte Aktivität erzeugt oft erst die gewünschte Änderung/Etablierung. Desweiteren gibt es mehrere Fellows die jeweils einzeln in EUnien leben. Und schließlich gibt es aber auch EUnien noch mindestens 10 mal in der EU ... also woher die Hundertschaften nehmen?
Mal ganz abgesehen davon, dass viele Menschen in EUnien gar kein Englisch sprechen, ein englischsprechender Besucher deshalb oft kaum Zuschauer bekommt.
Das kann auch einmal eine Einladung zu einem unserer Treffen sein.
Das hängt halt von vielen Faktoren auch örtlicher und persönlicher Natur ab. Ein Patentrezept - "in einundzwanzig Schritten zur Fellowshipgruppe"
- scheint es mir nicht zu geben. Da hilft nur, engen Kontakt zu halten
und genau zuzuhören, um gezielt helfen zu können. "Look at the boy!"
Aber es gibt eben auch Vorbilder von sozialen und politischen Bewegungen, bei denen wir uns das eine oder andere abschauen können.
Selbst in den deutschsprachigen Fellowshipgruppen findet man beispielsweise "Helden der Beharrlichkeit".
Also ich bin schon immer sehr beeindruckt gewesen von den Aktivitäten der Düsseldorfer-Gruppe, die weit über Düsseldorf hinausgehen - häufig mit dem Ziel im weiteren Umland neue Gruppen aufzubauen (zb Köln, Bonn, Mülheim, Aachen) oder sogar um ganz neue Gruppen zu etablieren (zb Drei-Länder-Treffen, Team NRW), die über Stadtgrenzen hinweg agieren sollen. Hut ab, weiter so.
Insbesondere von Dir, Michael, kommt dabei ganz viel Aktivität und Du verdienst dafür meine volle Wertschätzung. Und da Du offensichtlich auch gerne darüber berichtest, vielleicht möchtest Du das ja als einen Vortrag oder eine Session für den summit einreichen?
Dabei sollte klar sein, dass nur weil ich das jetzt vorschlage es dennoch den normalen Prozess durchlaufen muss, aber ich kann mir schon vorstellen, dass das ein interessantes Thema sein könnte.

dankeschön für den Bericht. Wie ihr Euch denken könnt, sehe ich einige der Aussagen hier etwas anders. Zumindest so wie ich Deine E-Mail derzeit verstehe. Bevor ich daher auch meinen (Löwen)Senf[1] dazu gebe, habe ich noch ein paar Fragen zum besseren Verständnis.

Selbst dort, wo in Europa Freie Software in Betrieben und Verwaltungen in größerem Umfange Fuß fasst, gibt es kaum Aktivisten der FSFE.
Hier würde ich gerne wissen wo das Eurer Einschätzung nach ist. Welche Betriebe und Verwaltungen sind das?

Die meisten von uns verstehen diesen Verein nicht als "Fork" oder Konkurrent der FSFE, sondern als "Extension". Wir teilen die Ziele der FSFE und "Konkurrenzdenken" ist Freien-Software-Freunden eher fremd.
Hierzu die Präambel unserer Satzung:
"Wir wollen selbstlos in Staat und Gesellschaft für die Förderung Freier Software und Offener Standards arbeiten. Wir sind überzeugt davon, dadurch dem allgemeinen Wohl und der Freiheit der Menschen dienen zu können. Hierzu wollen wir auch mit Menschen und Organisationen zusammenarbeiten, die unsere Anliegen teilen.
Wir wollen ein Bewusstsein für die Bedeutung Freier Software schaffen. Zur Wahrung der Demokratie setzen wir uns für einen gleichrangigen und selbstbestimmten Zugang aller Menschen zur digitalen Gesellschaft ein. Hierzu gehören auch die informationelle Selbstbestimmung und die Chancengleichheit beim Zugang zu Informationen. Es wird vermutlich häufiger zu einer Begegnung kommen beim monatlichen Düsseldorfer FSFE Fellowship Treffen. Und vermutlich werden Mitglieder dieses Vereins auch Vorträge anbieten und halten. Ich halte sogar ein gemeinsames Grillen für möglich, wenn sich die Sturmfront verzogen hat.

Auch diese Frage ist einfach zu beantworten: Wir machen zur Förderung Freier Software und Offener Standards Dinge, welche die FSFE nicht machen kann oder will (z.B. Räume für Freunde Freier Software im Rheinland unterhalten), die wir aber machen können und wollen.
Wir werden nichts machen, was die FSFE gut erledigt, z.B. Lobbying in Berlin und Brüssel.
Auch die Fellowshiptreffen in Düsseldorf werden weiter gehen wie bisher, gleiches gilt für das Team NRW und Lobbying in NRW.
Unsere Mitglieder leisten auch finanzielle Beiträge und wir werben auch um Spenden für unseren Verein.
Es gibt da ein Projekt, mit dem wir demnächst an die Öffentlichkeit treten werden, und wir haben auch schon einige Überlegungen, was wir sinnvollerweise sonst noch tun können.
Derzeit sind wir aber (leider noch) in erster Linie damit beschäftigt, uns baldmöglichst rechtlich und technisch zu etablieren.

Es gibt da ein Projekt, mit dem wir demnächst an die Öffentlichkeit treten werden, und wir haben auch schon einige Überlegungen, was wir sinnvollerweise sonst noch tun können.
Ich bin bereits sehr gespannt. Als separate Gruppe habt ihr natürlich teilweise ganz andere Möglichkeiten, ausserhalb des Profils der FSFE zu arbeiten.
