ich denke auch, dass man unfreie Software nicht ganz abschaffen kann oder sollte. Dies bezieht sich aber auf GNU/Linux Distributionen. Solange man auf unfreie Treiber wegen seiner Hardware angewiesen ist, gutes Beispiel ist mein Laptop mit Grafikkarte von Nvidia, Wlan Stick der unfreie Firmware brauch sowie die im Laptop verbaute Wlan Karte die ebenfalls unfreie Firmware braucht.
Deshalb ist es nicht immer Negativ wenn Distributionen diese anbieten. Dies vereinfacht die Nutzung der Distribution. Ich meine damit, dass es z.b. einfacher ist mit einer Paketveraltung zu arbeiten als ohne damit leben zu müssen. Bei Windows muss jede Software per Hand installiert werden. Unter einem wirklich freien GNU/Linux System müsste man dies dann auch tun und ich habe so was schon von Anfang an gemieden, da ich sowas unschön finde. Vor allem wenn man irgendwann mal Updates machen muss.
Ansonsten ist es aber auch wieder eine Frage ob man sich selbst unter unfreie Software setzt. Wer dies tut weil es nicht anders geht, da muss man schon ein Auge zudrücken. Wer es aber macht weil der unfreie Treiber 3 Sachen mehr beherrscht die man so oder so nicht nutzt, sollte sich wirklich mal Gedanken machen ob er den Sinn von freier Software und auch deren Nutzen verstanden hat.

Warum sollte ich z.b. einen Stapel Geld für ein Microsoft Betriebssystem ausgeben wenn ich Debian, Ubuntu und co. umsonst bekomme? Support bietet mir Microsoft zwar aber in Anspruch würde ich diesen nie nehmen. Mein Vista läuft zwar ohne Probleme doch wenn ich schon sehe, dass der Windows Defender de Host Datei, die interessanterweise auch in einem etc Ordner als Datei ohne Endung vorliegt ähnlich wie bei Linux vom Inhalt her gestrickt ist, dann mache ich mir doch Gedanken was ich mit Windows bekommen habe.
Ich persönlich nutze lieber jegliche freie Software als unfreie Software ;) Mein Desktop wird auch in Zukunft möglichst frei bleiben und dafür werde ich alles erdenkliche tun. Aber Vista ist noch ein Platzhalter für die Zeit, wenn ich mit Debian etwas besser zocken kann :)

Das Betreiben eines Betriebssystem ist jedoch nie um sonst. Du musst immer Zeit und Effektivität mitdenken.
Freie Software verbreitet sich zunehmend und damit kommt auch eine Professionalisierung. Wir müssen die Entwicklung und den Fortschritt auch über die Finanzströme denken.
Ich persönlich wünsche mir, wenn mehr Privatpersonen auch für Freie Software (also die die Dienstleistung, z.B. die Erstellung oder Zusammenstellung) zahlen würden. Das ist enorm wichtig, weil es die Entwicklung steuert. Zur Zeit wird viel der Entwicklung durch die größten Zahler gesteuert, und dass sind große Unternehmen und Organisationen, nicht die privaten Nutzer.

Wenn mehr Privatkunden bezahlen würden, wäre das in meinem Interesse. Trotzdem halte ich es auch allgemein für richtig. Es schmerzt manchmal das Herz, wenn ich keine noch bessere Software für Privatpersonen machen kann, weil es nicht finanziert wird und ich keine Leute dafür einstellen kann.

Sehe ich auch so, nur wo kann man sich als Anwender hinwenden um a.) zu wissen wozu der Programmierer Lust hat oder b.) man soviel Geld auftreibt um selber eine Entwicklung zu steuern. Zu beidem fehlt mir der Zugang. Im privaten kaufe ich nur freie Software, es sei den ich bin gezwungen microsoft steuer zu zahlen. Soviel ich weiß gab es schon Ansätze Benutzer in die Finanzierung von Entwicklungen einzubeziehen, ich kenne aber keine positive resonanz.

Wünschenswert wäre es eine Plattform zu haben auf denen Entwickler ihre Ideen und Anwender ihre Wünsche austauschen können, in der es aber ausschließlich um die Finanzierung von Projekten geht. Da ich mein Geld mit ehrlicher Arbeit verdienen muss, kann ich mich nur mit kleineren Spenden an Entwicklungen beteiligen, in meinen Augen werde ich damit auch nicht alleine sein. Vorstellen könnte ich mir das man entweder Global auf der Plattform spendet oder sich ganz gezielt für ein Projekt entscheiden kann. Wenn man das dann noch mit Sourceforge, Berlios usw. kombinieren könnte wäre auch eine breite Wirkung möglich. Gibt es so etwas erfolgreich schon? Natürlich sollte das von Menschen mit a.) Ahnung von Geld, b.) Sachverstand und c.) die bereit sind sich auf die Finger schauen zu lassen (Transparenz) geleitet werden. Soweit mal wieder Tag geträumt ;) .

Ich habe aufgehört mir die Plattformen intensiver anzusehen, als ich das fundamentale Problem besser zu fassen bekam:
Nutzer wissen nicht, was sie wollen, sie können es auch nicht wissen, bevor sie es nicht haben. (Die Entwickler allerdings auch nicht.) Wenn mich jemand beauftragt, dann weiss ich genau, das ich nur die Spitze des Eisbergs sehe, und der Rest der Anforderungen und Erwartungen unter Wasser schwimmt. Das ist immer so, auch wenn sich durch gute Klärung mal ein Teil übers Wasser heben läßt. Wenn zwei kommen und tun sich Zusammen, dann ist mein Gesamtaufwand höher, da die Anforderungen nicht 100% überlappen werden. Ich bräuchte also 1,6 mal den Finanzbedarf, oder noch mehr. Entsprechend wird das mit 80% des ursprünglichen Finanzbedarfs nur wenig billiger für die beiden. Bei noch mehr Partnern kann der Finanzbedarf noch größer werden. Entsprechend funktioniert das Zusammentun meist überhaupt nicht.
Bei gut bekannten Dingen, wie dem Freikaufen von Blender oder der Beseitigung bestimmter Defekte funktioniert das, jedoch nicht bei größeren Entwicklungsschritten.
Diese und andere Plattformen gelte es zu foerderun und unter Nutzern Freier Software bekannt zu machen. Mmn ist dieses Prinzip weitaus nuetzlicher als der uebliche Donation-Knopf.
Das sehe ich ganz anders. Rational wäre es, wenn freiwillig für eine bereits erhaltene Leistung bezahlt würde. (Siehe meinen alten Artikel). Ansonsten gibt es keine Konkurrenz und keinen großen Anreiz. Insofern sollte es "Bezahlen"-Knöpfe geben, ich finde "Spende" ist das falsche Wort, es ist trotzdem verbreiteter.

Ich denke das ist in der Tat das Problem, es gibt für den Privatanwender nicht wirklich eine Anlaufstelle oder eine einfache Möglichkeit Freie Software finanziell geziehlt zu unterstützen und damit die Entwicklung zu beeinflussen.
Als Plattform ist mir hierzu nur COfundOS[1] bekannt, ich denke das ist auf jeden Fall schonmal ein guter Ansatz, auch wenn es momentan wohl noch nicht so richtig fahrt aufgenommen hat.
Ich selbst hab mir vor einiger Zeit dazu auch schonmal ein paar Gedanken gemacht. In Bugtrackern wie z.B. bugs.kde.org gibt es heute schon die Möglichkeit für bestimmte Bugs und Features abzustimmen. Ein interessanter Versuch wäre es, wenn man hier nicht nur seine Stimme abgeben könnte, sondern auch Geld in einen Topf für einen Bug oder ein Feature werfen könnte. Wenn ein Entwickler den Bug behebt oder das Feature entwickelt, dann bekommt er das Geld das sich bis dahin in dem Topf angesammelt hat.

Das Entwickeln freier, robuster, langfristig-zukunftsfähiger Systeme -Dank offener Quellen- könnte viel langsamer und gründlicher Ablaufen, aber die Unternehmen und Organisation fühlen sich gezwungen, sich einem zinses-zins- beschleunigten und belasteten Geldwert-System zu unterwerfen.

Ich bin vollzeit- und langzeit-erwerbslos für Freie Software. Geld nehme ich nur, wenn sich die gebende Person sonst beleidigt fühlen würde. Oft schenken mir die Leute Anziehsachen oder laden mich zum Essen ein. Das ist zwar irgendwie 'geldwert', aber viel mehr Wert als Geld.
Ich bevorzuge die Freiheit von diesem Geld schon lange und den damit verbundenen, umfassenden, kaputten Systemen (Geldwert-, Krankenkassen-, Renten-, Pflege-, Bildung und Erziehung). 'Mein' Geld -aus unser aller öffentlichen Kassen- dient größtenteils dem Erhalt meines Arbeitsplatzes und dem Ausüben meines Berufs (Art.12 GG); der Rest, ein Wenig, dient dem Aufrechterhalten grundlegender Körperfunktionen.
Ich bin Dissident und erinnere deshalb an den vor einem Jahr und einer Woche verstorbenen Joseph Weizenbaum[1]
Ich meine, 'für die Erde sind Umsatz und Wege zu minimieren' und ich hoffe, das ein Tauschmittel (der Global, für weltweit vergleichbare (Arbeits-)Werte) bald der Mehrzahl von 'der kleinen Frau', ihren Männern und deren Kindern für das alltägliche Handeln zur Verfügung steht.

danke für den Respekt. Das "müssen" bezieht sich natürlich nur darauf, wenn wir eine weitere Verbreitung von Freier Software wünschen. Die Finanzströme spielen auf diesem Planeten halt eine große Rolle und ich selbst finde das Tauschmittel Geld auch recht praktisch. Manchen Auswuchs würde ich jedoch gern entgehen, die APT Steuer klingt zum Beispiel ganz gut (nicht was Ihr Debianer denkt, sondern "automatic payment tax" von Edgar Feige) http://www.brandeins.de/home/inhalt_detail.asp?id=2895&MenuID=130&Ma...) Auch die Ideen Grundeinkommen und Zweitwährungen finde ich sympatisch.
Wegen der großen Rolle von Finanzierung, müssen wir uns überlegen, was das für Freie Software bedeutet. Zum Beispiel bezahlen wir unfreie Software über viele Produkte mit. Leihen großen Unternehmen Geld damit sie mehr Freie Software erstellen können über unsere Geldanlagen.

Die Zahler steuern einen großen Teil der Freien Software-Entwicklung durch ihre Bedürfnisse. Zur Zeit sind es einfach größere Organisationen.

Nicht alle Organisation "unterwerfen" sich einem Diktakt des Geldes, trotzdem bleibt es wichtig, als Rückmeldung der eigenen Leistung. ( Ja, es gibt auch Leistungen, welche nicht mit Geld belohnt werden, insofern ist das nicht die einzige Möglichkeit Rückmeldung zu erhalten.) Ich denke diese Rückmeldungen machen die Software auch besser, da es konkrete Anhaltspunkte gibt, was zu verbessern ist. Weiterhin glaube ich, dass Profis in der Regel mehr schaffen können, Amateure (im finanziellen Sinne). Es ist einfach die Zeit und Übung, welche die Profis in die Sache stecken können. Mehr Profis für Freie Software wären deshalb aus meiner Sicht gut.

Ich halte das für relativ utopisch. Die einzige Finanzierungsquelle, die freie Software in näherer Zukuft haben wird, sind Firmen.
Privatanwender sind oft noch nicht mal bereit, etwas für proprietäre Software zu zahlen und nutzen daher Schwarzkopien. Warum sollten sie etwas für freie Software zahlen?
Auch mit dem Servicegedanken lässt sich im Privatkundenbereich kein Geld verdienen, Ich habe mal versucht so etwas als PC-Service aufzuziehen, nach dem Motto: Biete Komplettumstellung Ihres PCs auf freie Software an und gebe eine Einführung (für einen lächerlichen Preis) Ergebnis: Niemand interessierte sich dafür, und ich durfte mich bei meinen Kunden mit den üblichen Windows-Problemen beschäftigen. Es kam auch mehrmals vor, dass eine Neu-Instllation notwendig wurde. Einige reichten mir bei der Frage nach dem Datenträger eine offensichtlich selbsgebrannte illegale Kopie. Auf meine Weigerung hin, so etwas zu installieren, schickte mich ein Kunde weg, ein anderer beauftragte mich eine legale Kopie zu besorgen - auch als ich anbot, die gleiche Funktonalität mit freier Software herstellen zu können.
Als Entwickler freier Software ist es mir zweimal passiert, dass mir Privatpersonen Geld anboten. Ich war zwar angenehm überrascht, aber das Geld war weder meine Motivtion, noch war ich darauf angewiesen.
Den Webspace für meine Projekte finanziere ich mit Google-Ads. Da bleibt sogar etwas über, damit finanziere ich eine weitere Domain und Webspace für eine Künstlerin, die freie Musik macht. (Es muss ja nicht immer freie Software sein:))
Beruflich bin ich in der glücklichen Situation meinen Job als Admin durch meine Kentnisse mit GNU/Linux bekommen zu haben. Zum Glück arbeite ich nicht als Softwarentwckler, denn da müsste ich nun wohl auch proprietäre Software entwickeln, wie mein Kollege. Dieser überlegt nun, von Java auf .NET umzusteigen (weil er WPF so toll findet - also nix mit Mono), aber das nur nebenbei.
Als Privatperson sehe ich keine Möglichkeit, freie Software über ein paar Almosen hinaus zu finanzieren - und das wird wohl den meisten so gehen.
Ich finde aber, dass Zeit eine viel wertvollere Gabe ist. Viele kleinere bis mittelgroße Projekte leiden nicht unbedingt an Geldmangel, aber sie haben zu wenig freiwillige Mitarbeiter. Diese Projekte würden sich sicherlich viel mehr über jemanden freuen der sagt "ich arbeite 10 Stunden im Monat am Projekt mit" als über jemanden, der sagt "ich spende monatlich 10 Euro für das Projekt".

Apropos, nur so als Tipp: Musiker die ihre Sachen unter Creative Commons Lizenzen veröffentlichen, können ihre Musik über Jamendo[1] vertreiiben. Entschuldigt, falls ihr das schon kanntet, aber ich meine, dass das viel zu viele leider noch nicht kennen.

Dort erhält der Künstler immer 50% des Gewinns! Man kann Musik bei Magnatune direkt herunterladen und bezahlen, oder aber über Freie-Software-Musikplayer wie Amarok et al. Was viele Leute nicht wissen, Magnatune benutzt soviel ich weiss nur Freie Software und finanziert ausserdem Freie Software mit, da ein geringer Anteil des Verkaufspreises auch an die Musikplayer geht und so die Entwicklung unterstützt. Die APIs und Musikplayer-Integration wird übrigens auch von Magnatune gesponsort.

Weil die Mehrheit der Menschen ehrlich ist und das Bezahlen im ureigensten Interesse liegt. Die illegalen Kopien proprietärer Software nützen ganz oft den Herstellern derselben.

Die Gaststätten, Friseure, Taxis, Imbissbuden und Wäschereinigungen verdienen jede Menge Geld mit Privatkunden. Es ist sicher nicht leicht, aber es könnte auch mit Software gehen. Es hängt natürlich an beiden Seiten. Ich persönlich mache das privat schon maö mit und bezahle gern mal für Freie Software. Wenn ich zwei überzeuge das auch zu tun und die das ebenfalls schaffen ...
Als Privatperson sehe ich keine Möglichkeit, freie Software über ein paar Almosen hinaus zu finanzieren - und das wird wohl den meisten so gehen.
Das Schöne ist, auch kleine Summen bringen was. Von jedem Bundesbürger 50 Cent ist echt eine nette Summe.
Ich finde aber, dass Zeit eine viel wertvollere Gabe ist. Viele kleinere bis mittelgroße Projekte leiden nicht unbedingt an Geldmangel, aber sie haben zu wenig freiwillige Mitarbeiter. Diese Projekte würden sich sicherlich viel mehr über jemanden freuen der sagt "ich arbeite 10 Stunden im Monat am Projekt mit" als über jemanden, der sagt "ich spende monatlich 10 Euro für das Projekt".
Meiner Erfahrung nach muss es eine Koordination geben, die ist oft harte Arbeit und wird deshalb gern mal von Profis übernommen. Natürlich bekommst Du für 10 Euro keine 10 Stunden qualifizierte Arbeitszeit, die würden eher 400 Euro kosten (langfristig, kurzfrisistg eher 1400 Euro). Andersherum glaube ich das einigen Projekten ein Profi-Aufräumer fehlt, und der liesse sich nur mit Geld beschäftigen.
