Gerne! Freie Software ist per Definition Software, die die folgenden Kriterien erfüllt:
Die Freiheit, das Programm für jeden Zweck zu benutzen (Freiheit 0).
Die Freiheit, zu verstehen, wie das Programm funktioniert und wie
man es für seine Ansprüche anpassen kann (Freiheit 1). Der Zugang zum Quellcode ist dafür Voraussetzung.
- Die Freiheit, Kopien weiterzuverbreiten, so dass man seinem Nächsten
weiterhelfen kann (Freiheit 2).
- Die Freiheit, das Programm zu verbessern und die Verbesserungen der
Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung zu stellen, damit die ganze Gemeinschaft davon profitieren kann (Freiheit 3). Der Zugang zum Quellcode ist dafür Voraussetzung.
Diese Freiheiten beziehen sich auf Programme, nicht Content. Zu Content zähle ich Bilder, Filme, Musik, aber auch nützliches Wissen, also auch Erfahrungswissen, Baupläne, Verfahren usw. Wenn Du mal nacheinander all die Freiheiten auf Content anwendest, dann merkst Du, dass dies keinen Sinn ergibt. Unter dem Punkt "Verfahren" gibt es eine Zone, in der sich die Kategorien "Programmcode" und "Content" überlagern mögen, aber ich würde es eher dem Content zuschreiben.
Nun da gibt es gewichtige andere Meinungen:

Eine unklare Trennung von Content und Programmcode sehe ich als Grund, warum proprietäre Software heute den Markt dominiert. Diese Trennung ist technisch auch nicht näher definierbar. Dabei finde ich es zunächst nicht verwerflich, wenn ein Programm proprietären Code als Content enthält.
Code als Content?
Natürlich ist das Ideal eine Welt in der jede Codezeile offenliegt (und jeder sein Wissen mit jedem teilt).
Sehr richtig, genau dafür setzen wir uns ein!
Aber der ganze Apparat ist nunmal auf
dem Prinzip proprietärer Software aufgebaut und weit entfernt von dieser Vision. Damit diese aber Wirklichkeit werden kann, muss man auch suboptimale Zustände als Zwischenschritt akzeptieren.
Was man akzeptiert, ist das Eine; was man Freie Software nennt, das Andere; und was man erstrebt und wofür man sich einsetzt, das Dritte.
