Dear Fellows,
I am writing to draw your attention to events taking place in the UK over the coming weeks.
- Document Freedom Day
Document Freedom Day is a global effort to draw attention to the benefits of document liberation. As I once Tweeted, not using open standards in documents (especially in the public sector) is simply locking up knowledge and throwing away the key.
Details on getting involved can be found here: http://www.documentfreedom.org/Get_Involved
Please consider drawing attention to issues of document freedom in your region. Please consider blogging or Tweeting on the subject; remember to use join the !dfd group in identi.ca or tag your Tweets/dents with #dfd2010.
- Vote Geek
Various organisations related to Free Software (including the FSFE) has developed an initiative for raising awareness of geek issues.
The Vote Geek initiative encourages people to write to their MPs during the run-up to the general election and publish the reply. Instructions can be found here:
http://votegeek.org.uk/writing-letters/
You can take part by either snail mail or email. You can make the whole process simpler by using WriteToThem:
Please support Document Freedom Day or Vote Geek in your area by taking part and promoting the events through blogging, Tweets/dents and other means.
All the best, Paul
