It is a request for discussion about reorganisation of German newsgroups for software applications. Optionally the proponent proposes the deletion of de.comp.gnu. It looks like people discussing this on de.admin.news.groups are largely not in favour of deleting de.comp.gnu, though.
This raises the question of where an how the FSFE and the GNU project can be represented and discussed in the German speaking newsgroups.
And of course in newgroups in other european languages in general.
News (nntp) seems to be a very sofisticated tool which we should use more to have good discussions.

why not use something like gnu.fsfe.whatever or something similiar?
It is not in the german news hiechary. :) This mean it is no carries on all news servers.
But someone with more knowledge about modern usenet should jump in. Bernhard

de.* is also not carried on _all_ news servers. - I think we should know what we want to achieve.
If it is a discussion forum in german for GNU software then do that in de.comp.gnu.
If we want to cross-post this discussion (I think this makes sense) in a newsgroup I would choose soemthing like gnu.fsfe.discuss or gnu.eu.discuss.
It is not important if everyone carries these hierarchies. It is important that most do. :-)
AFAIK at least all major ISPs and news servers in Austria seem to feed gnu.* - I don't expect this to be different in other countries.

We must be present in de.comp.gnu. It is "our" newsgroup in the German-speaking world.

Agreed.

Indeed. I used to be active in the newsgroups in the past, but unfortunately I have no more time for this very interesting field.
As a first step I suggest that we forward the German versions of our announcements to that newsgroup. Someone must be present there, so we can jump in if there are important discussions. (This can be the same person who posts the announcements there.)
If anyone would take that job, it would be a good possibility to show that there is an active group furthering Free Software in Europe.

If you think so. The charter is more related to discussion of the software of the GNU project IIRC.

I occasionally read de.comp.gnu. Maybe some of the german speaking readers can help us out and post somethink about the FSFE there. (I also know that some people are already here and on de.comp.gnu. :) )

[Second try, to the list now. Sorry Bernhard]

I just re-subscribed de.admin.news.groups to check on the status of the deletion of de.comp.gnu. The proponent of the RfD writes:

[The deletion of de.comp.gnu will most likely not be present in the 2. RfD]
