CDDL and GNU

Sun is about to release Solaris under a new licence called CDDL. http://www.opensolaris.org/license/cddl_license.html It is based on MPL 1.1. The differences are listed here: http://www.sun.com/cddl/CDDL_MPL_redline.pdf A summary can be found at http://www.sun.com/cddl/CDDL_why_details.html I'm writing an article about it, and I would appreciate it if you could tell me whether CDDL is compatible with GPL and LGPL. Feedback on free software licence requested

Greetings. I have a colleague who wishes to release a program under a free software licence. However, he and/or our company wishes to reserve the right to use and relicense any third-party contributions under another (possibly non-free) licence. I therefore suggested using the following licence: Gnomovision is released under the GNU General Public License, with the additional proviso that for any modifications to the source code which you publish, you agree to grant Vice, Inc. a perpetual, world-wide, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, modify, display, perform, sublicence, and distribute said modifications (or portions thereof) either on an unmodified basis, or with other modifications, as source code or binary code or as part of a larger work. However, I believe that such a licence would break compatibility with the GPL (and probably most other free software licences). Am I correct? If so, I suppose this might discourage people from contributing to the project, and would also preclude the inclusion of or linking to GPL-covered third-party code. If anyone has comments on this licence or ideas for modifications or for some alternative licence which could be used, please let me know and I'll pass them along to my colleague. Ruby, found at www.ruby-lang.org is a oo language written under the Ruby licence found at: http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/LICENSE.txt It clearly states that: "You can redistribute it and/or modify it under either the terms of the GPL (see COPYING.txt file), or the conditions below: " So just to be SURE.. Hi all, its FOSDEM time. the Free Software Developers Meeting [1] will take place from 26th to 27th of February, 2005 in Brussels (Belgium). [1] http://www.fosdem.org as in the years before, we are organizing a booth to present the FSF Europe at FOSDEM 2005. Thus we are looking for people who'd like to help us to man the booth on both days. Our main issues will be to talk to people around different aspects of Free Software and of course to sell merchandise material like T-Shirts, GNU Pins and so on. This would be a chance to everybody who'd like to get involved into Free Software issues, as well. Poland disapproves software patent directive in EU Council With its veto, Poland blocked the final approval of the software patent directive in the EU Council. This means that the directive will have to be discussed again in the Council. Several countries are expected to have changed their mind against software patents since the last discussion in May, where only a thin majority was pro software patents. The FSFE and its associate organisations worked hard on a political level both in Poland itself and in other countries backing Poland in this decision to make the veto possible. http://www.fsfeurope.org/projects/swpat/ 2. First victory for EU and FSFE in Microsoft trial Bo Versterdorf, President of the European Court, has rejected Microsoft's appeal to delay execution of the sanctions. Microsoft has been forced by the European Commission to publish technical information about the interfaces of their Windows Operating System to enable competitors to reach interoperability between their systems and Windows.
